*ahem* i think some updating of this status needs to be done here...polar bear karma FTW! :wink3:

Indeed! *ahem* I'm going!

see, told you! She's always winning 'bouuuh I can't go' and turn out she's fuckin GOING  drama queen... :P

I swear I wasn't being a drama queen, I really couldn't go this morning as it was sold out :P But then tickets showed up out of nowhere tonight, I managed to purchase one and then it was sold out again... So weird, but freakishly good weird! ^^

They still need to adjust but the song has really grow on me, I love it now. (but I hate gL's jacket... )

The song has grown on me too, especially due to the fact that I've watch the official video over and over again! (and as for me, I hate gL's hair... please cut it! :P)

  • Finally a new album from the band! Haven't heard the full album yet, just the 3 pre-released songs and they're great.

don't worry...i kinda hate that jacket too. i kept thinking that if it were red, it'd look like MJ's jacket from Thriller!

& as Virginie's said, Gary looks like he needs a haircut. he should do like his brothers & get that shaggy mop of hair of his cut short. else by 5 Sep it'll be a messy mop. :P

no worries. just happy you got it sorted out in the end & looking forward to seeing you again. nothing worse than changing your travel plans to come for this gig only to not have a ticket for it!

Thx, I'm kinda proud of that pun actually :P

I hope he does! Let's go back to a TP-haircut-style pretty please Gary!

& i hope the Empire does fall cos of that lady shouting for him to come out in the dark... :P

(i'll get me coat now... :dozey: )

^^ THIS! he can feel free to wear his busty little fashionista shirt too... *lol* or his VERY grey designer socks that the Q Mag guy told me about ...just not that jacket in that T4 video.

(come to think of it, it would seem our Gary boy's a bit of a closet fashionista...designer socks, All Saints busty shirts, All Saint t-shirts... )

So I'm waiting but there is nothing!

Not really my cup of tea. :uhoh:

You kind of wait for the song to actually "start" and then it's over already. Know what I mean?

It's like a loooong intro.

I completely agree, Anna. It starts off so promising, but it doesn't seem to go anywhere.

I've got my money on this being Track #1 on the album. I can't see it working as anything other than an intro piece and obviously won't be a single. As long as it's the album intro, I'm still confident for the rest of the album.

Listened to it. I kinda like it. and gL said in the ITV just before the song that it's not the title track, so I guess just as you said it's an intro song... I still have faith! More faith than for CP and MX...

Anyway, I'm glad they're trying things outside their confort zone.

Pretty good album so far, I like COITD better than Fallen Empires, but they're both great! :D

Absolutely LOVED the song Fallen Empires, a true hark back to the early indie days of Snow Patrol and demonstrates a lot of growth in the band.

Its nice to see that they're making music that they believe in rather than music that aims to be a mainstream hit. I can't imagine those who fell in love with Snow Patrol for songs like Chasing Cars enjoying the song too much, possibly even the album.

More songs like this on the album for me please.. :)

That!

I like it, its kind of dark! I love it that both songs are far from the usual Snow Patrol, but a good far! :)

They seem to be able to spread their wings more, whereas Coldplay seem to struggle at going for a different sound. I look forward to both albums but I always get more excited for Snow Patrol than Coldplay. I think that Snow Patrol are great at going out of their comfort zone but I think Coldplay should stick to what they know best.

I actually think Snow Patrol's played it safer than Coldplay in recent years, with only marginal experimentation on AHMS on tracks like The Lightning Strike. That's not a bad thing. This album looks a little more innovative, but still retaining the core Snow Patrol sound. Coldplay, on the other hand, seems to have thrown everything out the window this time around, with much of it already being abandoned during Viva. Likewise, I think SP has higher success odds than Coldplay this time around.

Point taken. While I personally prefer the more solidified alt/prog of Final Straw, I got a few pre-FS vibes from this song.

I'm afraid i agree. :\ Much prefer COITD.

think i'm one of the few (or maybe the only one?) who liked Fallen Empires already from that snippet on Amazon UK. & am going to stand by it. loved it!

had to re-listen to it 2 times though, as i was at work & was interrupted a couple of times when it finally came on. on top of trying very hard not to laugh or grin like an idiot during Gary's interview. :dozey:

fairly sure this is one song that's going to sound epic when played live (& frigging loud!)   CAN...NOT...WAIT!!! :bomb:

& i think i actually like Fallen Empires a bit more than COITD...tho i have to keep stopping myself from referring to it as Fake Empire (totally different song/band even!)

but this might partly be due to my slight preference towards darker, angrier, heavy charged songs lately.

actually, i think he said it is the title track. but as in it's the title track for the album & not the EP. he was saying it's confusing in that sense.

but anyway, title track doesn't mean it'll be the lead track on an album. so it's still anyone's guess for now where it fits in on the actual album. EP-wise, it's right after COITD's boppy happy sound, but leading into the slower (sadder?) sound of My Brothers. which i think is about right...if i remember the sound of My Brothers right.

I really liked the song just from the amazon snippet too! I've only heard the song once in full but I really like it. I can't wait for the album, the two songs they've put out now i've really enjoyed and I just can't wait for the album to be in my hands and in my collection.

I've made the same mistake too with the title, I guess The National are just that good lol.

To be honest, i wasn't even like it when i heard the snippets on amazon. But the full song is so much better than the little snippet. I really like it. Sounds so different from their previous songs. And the interview, i love it. I laugh so much while i listening and my mom gave me a weird look thought i was crazy. :laugh3::laugh3:

gL's track of the month on this month Q. He's gushing over this track from this Glasgow band:

YouTube - The Phantom Band - The None Of One

Am I the only one thinking this track has a Tired Pony feel?? It's nice ^^

The boys also launch Polar Patrol, their one-record deal label :)

was going thru some of the older posts & realised i've seen this band play live recently. volunteered at the Camden Crawl over the summer & decided to check them out cos i vaguely remembered seeing them mentioned somewhere before.

liked their music so much i bought both of their albums on sale that night. the lady & guy manning the makeshift merch stall seemed to be both surprised & happy that i was buying 2 albums straight off. haha

haha...probably! i am still very much in love with High Violet.

& guess i also keep thinking of The National with SP's new album cos of Gary's post about having Nico Muhly & Owen Pallett working on this album's strings & bass arrangement. still think Big Broken had a bit of The National kind of vibe to it (wonder if that track's going to be on the album even?).

can totally see ppl at the upcoming SP gig(s) jumping around to Fallen Empires already. looking forward to the rest of the album! :)

Do they have a new album coming out? They've completely fallen off my radar over the past couple of years, I loved "Eyes Open" I think that's what the album was called, seems so long ago. Wasn't overly keen on A Hundred Million Suns.

Do they have a new single out?
