yeah, i like his way of writing lyrics though.

 

but i heard in a interview which i can't remembered recently i quoted him saying that his songs can be implied to any one.

 

Someone just tell me if I'm crazy for thinking this....

 

But I call Chris' bluff on that. A big part of me really does not believe some of those old songs like "I Bloom Blaum" and "Shiver" and "Warning Sign" are so abstract that they are not directed toward anyone.

 

After Chris married his wife, I was way more curious about those old love songs. He doesn't have to say who they're about, but as long as he can admit that they're about someone, I'm happy. I can understand why someone who's so in love in the present with his soul mate can push the memory of the old loves to the backburner. I get a little sad when he says those songs had no connections to anyone though, 'cos they are so deep.

 

Imagine if a guy wrote a song about your relationship, but then years later says it wasn't really about you. Little heartbreak there, almost enough to make me write a song, haha :)

 

And so my rant isn't a complete waste of space:

If you read the articles from 2002 they are full of his lament over the breakdown of his relationship of his ex girlfriend, Lily. He mentions her in various different articles, like how he went to the 2001 NME awards not long after they split and got completely plastered and fled the venue, or about how he wrote Amsterdam, in Amsterdam the day they split, there's even a quote where he stated he had thought about looking for a ring.

 

I agree that it's sad that he won't admit to this period in his life any more, especially since it's apparent that most of the songs on AROBTTH were born from it.

it's so obvious that these songs aren't just implied to anyone because they're so beautiful and so from the heart. i guess for publicity reasons he doesn't want to admit it, so i understand.

They're obviously about someone. You can't just write songs without thinking about someone or something. Maybe you can pull it off once or twice, but not more.

 

It's like when they stopped playing Green Eyes cause it wasn't about Gwenyth. I thought that was crap. But yknow, obviously it shows that he clearly writes songs about girls from before Gwenyth. Which we should totally expect anyhow.
