well, we don't have many options for crowds over 30,000.

usually, for big tours they choose soccer stadiums, parks, parking lots...

There's really not much that can be done for it. FWIW large indoor arenas weren't really built with proper acoustics for live music in mind either.

Well at least Chris finally knows where 1/4 of the band is now :) :laugh3:

Really? Really, when I've seen them live (every tour from AROBTTH on except the GS promo tour they just did) his bass sound seems pretty crushing.

Agree. I've only seen them once: RAH on July 2nd. I was on one of the balconies and it was literally shaking everytime Guy flicked a finger.

And again, that's much more of a PA/Venue issue than anything to do with the actual sound produced by the bass on stage. I've never been to an outdoor concert, let alone one in a large venue that had sound that rivaled an indoor gig.

we need to ask someone that went to CP gigs in both types of venues :P

FWIW, I have. :) (though in fairness, I haven't seen them in a proper stadium). I've seen them in indoor arenas and outdoor amphitheaters though. Would take the indoor gig hands down, the problem is there really is a shortage of large indoor arenas in many places bands want to tour.

An indoor arena is probably a lot different from a place like the Royal Albert Hall though. Potentially RAH could have GREAT sound.

I say potentially because their speaker system simply couldn't take the load Coldplay put on them. The sound was distorted and the high pitch notes extremely sharp on the ears.

But look at a place like the Copenhagen Concert Hall which was built entirely with acoustics and sound quality in mind. I'd give anything to have Coldplay do an intimate gig there and not go nuts on the speaker system.

There's that but when the production is done correctly, stadium concerts get a great quality sound, for example U2 tours.

True, but they have a reputation for having the best live sound of any stadium band going. (some of that is because they can afford to hire the very best, which is a feat Coldplay could surely match, but it's also that they have a crew who's extensively toured stadiums for over 20 years and knows all the tricks, Coldplay and their crew are still relative newbies on that front.) That said, I'd still rather see them indoors.
