LP11 speculations and news

Featured Replies

I'm placing my bets on a single before the year is over and the album in early 2027. Releasing on Q4 used to be a good strategy because Christmas gave everyone a sales boost, now the charts are just holiday slop.

Big news!!! Chris performed at a Global Citizen event in Paris yesterday, and according to a Reddit user told the audience that LP11 is currently being recorded. That could mean we get a late 2026 / e

I think that´s the most likely scenario. But I´m not entirely sure about the album, maybe an EP or 2-3 new songs... They have gone through Moon Music promotion repeating how much it costs for them to record an album again and again, and a year later they deliver a new one? Too good to be true... I hope I´m wrong.

Moon Music is nearly 2 years old now which is wild

I think February 2027 for the song and album

Hello there,

I'm very suprised by the two intimate studio sessions, this is somewhat the opposite of everything we've seen with MOTS, which was ultra-commercial and "ultra-maximized," versus events with no media coverage or social media posts. It seems the "commercial then intimate" cycle is starting up again.

Things seem simpler, and the fact that they're working together again in London is cool. I wonder if MOTS tour will return with the same massive turnout we saw before; personally, I don't think so.

They did something similar in LA a few weeks ago. Definitely feels like new music could be coming later this year. Not sure it's a hint at a more intimate era coming though. This feels kind of similar to the moon lounge that they did for a while during the MOTS tour in 2024 in the run up to MM.

Also, Chris basically confirmed that they're planning a total of 360 gigs for the MOTS tour, and during Wembley N10 in September last year he hinted at them taking a break, before returning for an Africa leg in around 18 months (so around March 2027).

Maybe LP11 will be more organic than Moon Music just like Moon Music was more organic than MOTS

Yes i remember, but i know one things with Chris : he is not reliable in these announcements, it may have been the plan in 2025 but with them everything can change quickly unless it is really contractual.

Right now, Coldplay is not a concert anymore, is an event. Thousands of people, thousands of not-fans-at-all, will be there if the concert is next to where they live, because the feeling inside and the picture on their TT or Instagram looks and feels so good. I don´t know if that will change on the next tour once they finish this MOTS, but a big % of people that paid a ticket on 2024 (including me) did not attend because of We Pray or All my love.

The MOTS tour didn’t change much in terms of content or attendance with the release of Moon Music and I don’t expect any different with the release of LP11. What it comes down to is this - one of the biggest bands of all time are visiting your city, are you going or not?

Exactly my point, thanks for repeating it😂

Let's be honest: we feel that this tour was mainly a cash cow to replenish the coffers significantly, both for Coldplay and all its partners like Live Nation. It was very massive and optimized with a kind of micro-residence.

Moon Music will be over two years old by the time LP11 comes out. Also, people who went to the Los Angeles sessions mentioned that there were only new songs on the setlist.

Agreed. Moon Music felt very transitional.

I can't help but think MOTS selling less than AHFOD finally made the band realize that their concert demand is not tied to chart performance. It's obvious for me who keeps up with boxscore numbers, but maybe not for other people. Couple that with the panning and Moon Music reducing the commercial-ness was inevitable.

Moon Music gave the game away I think. It was Coldplay’s biggest commercial disappointment (Everyday Life doesn’t count because they intentionally didn’t promote it much) and yet it coincided with one of the highest grossing tours of all time.

I don't know. I get the impression Moon Music's campaign focused on first-week numbers more than anything. The pre-sale and release stragegy was impeccable, it had signed copies, variants, ticket access... But after that just visuals.

Considering all the fan events and Chris going to Rolling Stone play the album, I would say their expectations were about receiving a more positive feedback than MOTS. He says they don't care but the band are not stupid either. We're fans of a rather ambitious bunch in fact.

And the feedback was not, in fact, better? It didn´t have supercommercial singles like "Higher power" or "My Universe" ("My Pray" is the closest, and I think "Good Feelings" didn´t have the push it needed) but I sensed a much better opinion towards MM.

A lot more fans liked the record, but critics are still lukewarm after MOTS. Until 2021, their albums on Metacritic still received many positive reviews despite total grades in the lower end: Mylo Xyloto had 17, Ghost Stories 11 and AHFOD eight. Both MOTS and MM failed to get five or more good scores, which is terrible considering how inflated ratings are these days.
