August 22, 200619 yr I can't believe Tom is on drugs!! :o It just doesn't seem very Keane somehow. Don't blame him though after all the pressure they've had over the last couple of years. Hopefully their manager/record company will get the hint and not treat them like some kind of workhorse this time around. Tim
August 22, 200619 yr Not to be gossipy, and it TRULY is none of my business, but I wonder yanno.... what the addiction pretains to. It may not be anything hard, he doesn't strike me as a person like that. Could just be an addiction to prescription medication (his exhaustion could tie into that), or sleeping pills, etc. A really close friend of mine's husband is going through a very similiar problem.... It's incredibly hard to admit and deal with, and I give huuuuge kudos to Tom for being so brave to not just face it privately, but to share it with fans and indeed the world. I feel honored that he thinks we deserve the truth :nice: And I agree, Tim, I also hope that their management doesn't push them into the ground. They're only human. Christ, I'd be a complete junkie after only 2 weeks of touring, I'm sure! :laugh4:
August 22, 200619 yr Hi Danielle, I think you're probably absolutely right - it certainly seems more likely!! I think the band made their situation quite clear on the Strangers documentary - hope it was taken on board by the powers that be. Much as I like it, I can't help but feel that UTIS would have been a better album had they had more time off to prepare it. Tim

August 23, 200619 yr Keane on working NEW YORK -- On paper, 2005 couldn't have been a better year for Keane. The first album by the melodic pop trio from across the pond, Hopes And Fears, was certified gold in the United States, they opened for U2 at Madison Square Garden and were nominated for a best new artist Grammy. Yet as the year drew to a close, Keane was at perhaps the most miserable point in its existence. Constant touring had left them overwhelmed and embittered, and the childhood friends -- twentysomething bandmates Richard Hughes, Tim Rice-Oxley and Tom Chaplin -- were wearing on each other's nerves. "I think we were pretty spent," said drummer Hughes as he sat in a hotel bar with the rest of the group. "It seemed to us like we'd been touring a long time and we'd stopped communicating and sort of started to shut ourselves off a bit just to survive, and you enter a sort of crash mode." Still, as frayed and frustrated as they might have been, when their touring obligations finally ended and they had a chance to take a break from it all -- and each other -- they didn't. Instead, they headed right back to the studio to work on their second album, Under The Iron Sea, which came out this week. The result: Another critically acclaimed disc that shows they must have done something besides bicker and vegetate during their months on the road. The album finds Keane experimenting musically -- moving away from the acoustic, piano-centred ballads that drew comparisons to their good friends Coldplay when they first debuted in 2004. http://torontosun.com/Entertainment/Music/2006/08/23/1770891-sun.html
