I admit that after listening to Everglow, which I didn't like, I am rather curious about HFTW. The snippet sound like generic 2000s RnB but the song may not be that bad. I must admit rather want a good RnB song than a horrible pop ballad.

Actually, I don't even think the lyrics of Everglow are that bad. But it just has this feeling of a generic Shania Twain pop ballad, it doesn't compare to previous "emotional songs" by Coldplay. It's one of these ballads you hear in the radio all day and forget immediately after.

That's one of the things bothering me a lot. Unfortunately, his voice seems to be irreversibly old and scratchy now. But then again, this is an aspect about their songs that is the least influencable, and I can live with it as long as the songs are great (example: Ghost Story).

Such a silly video, and now it does feature the products placement. Jonny with his cap was the only god thing about this video. Well, this video befits the song itself...

What Batman said is right. Of course, since the band spans two really different musical genres, it is not difficult to perceive why there is a divide among fans. I believe that negative and positive opinions are both needed and if we didn't have these discussions, what do we have a forum for ? As long as everything stays on a polite level and discussions are about the opinions, not directed against the persons behind these opinions. Also, why do many of us have so many negative opinions on Coldplay's newer work ? Because we have the highest expectations based on their earlier work. If we hated the band, we would have low expectations and not really care about their output. But we do, and that's a very healthy sign.

Most of the pre-Viva songs are literally among my favourite of all time (most, but by no means all - for example I really don't like Swallowed in the Sea, High Speed or Murder, to name just a few); I just feel a lot of originality missing in Coldplay's work these days. Also, as someone who never liked mainstream pop, I found Coldplay's early work to be so different and refreshing, and their latter to be very close to/exactly the same as the very music I don't like.

I have the impression it is more and more "required" to like all of Coldplay's output in order to be allowed to voice your opinion on the threads. This makes me sad.

Not true. For example, Oldplayers love Ghost Story but not Ghost Stories. I myself quite like the title track of AHFOD.
