  1. Yeah, this would need to be discussed in a separate thread. But anyway, I didn't imply Chris or Coldplay are the worst artists out there, I do keep track of their charity efforts and all that. But Chris, just taking him as an example, could live like a king on 10 million plus the respective interests plus future incomes and donate the rest. I know no celeb has ever done that. If I'd do it ? Only someone who is actually in that position and can make that choice could give a meaningful answer. Now I'd like to think I'd do it, too, but then money can corrupt you/make you blind so I don't know if I would be strong enough to withstand. I'm being honest here. Maybe remembering what I thought earlier of celebs sitting on a large fortune and publicly campaigning against poverty would make me do it :)
  2. Whoa, this thread is going at the speed of sound already !
  3. I love the basslines on the AROBTTH Album, and certainly they are important for the overall sound.
  4. Or if you're stuck in Square Oooone ? Can we do WhatIf next ????
  5. @Sheikwonder: Interesting. Do you like Homecoming, then ? :) And don't get me wrong, I love the lyrics on Amsterdam and the final crescendo but somehow the slow half of it doesn't work for me melody-wise. I don't hate it, I just think it's overrated.
  6. Agree...there's something missing to this song, it is very boring.
  7. And if you COME UNDONE
  8. I think we missed 1 Chorus, but it would be repetition anyway so: is lost and hurt and lonely too ?
  9. Now we need to wait for person No.3, this would be Proof that the idea is great :)
  10. While Midnight is a very weird and electronic song and doesn't sound like Coldplay either, even Midnight has more atmosphere and uniqueness to me and thus is not among my most disliked Coldplay songs. I listen to it rarely, but I do. By the way, Another's Arms, High Speed, Death will never conquer also would go on my list... Except the first 20 seconds of High Speed which contain a really great instrumental. Also, I never understood while people like Amsterdam that much.
  11. Well, ASFOS is very repetitive, Avicii-EDM style (which I dislike and also believe doesn't suit Coldplay), the instrumenatation, the overall SOUND...

  23. Finally someone saying this ! I grew up listening only to classical music and got to despise most of modern pop/rock music. What I was subjected to on the radio was so shallow, commercial, bland, meaningless....that I never ventured to try and discover other sounds. Getting to know Coldplay opened up a whole new world for me, the world of indie/alternative rock. Their earlier works are so heartfelt and honest, they have a strange pure beauty to them. OK, the lyrics are sometimes not the best, but for the most part I actually love them ! It's this lyrical vagueness coupled with emotion that makes the songs relatable in a range of life situations and moods. The emotion itself, actually, is a reason why I like them, no other band makes me feel that way. And then come the two most important things for me: The melodies, and the vocals. Let's face it, Chris has (had?) one of the most beautiful singing voices in non-classical music. For me it is even the most beautiful - the sound, the softness, the vulnerability. And I am somebody who hates "songs" that just consist of a sound carpet floating about, never developing a melody. I love memorable and powerful melodies, be it in classical or modern music and whatever the instrumentation may be. And Coldplay has wonderful and strong melodies in nearly all of their songs, not just one or two hits. This is a remarkable feat for which they will be surely for always remembered. As to the question why one follows them if one doesn't like the recent work, well, it is sad to me that their direction has changed but as someone else said here, it is the first (and maybe only) band whose sound I so fell in love with, and I guess we all have a lot of emotional connections left and will continue to have them.
