Coldplay and your family!
My family tolerate them, but wish I wasn't so obsessed. My sister sort of likes them (way more than she wants to admit, I think) I certainly have to go looking whenever I want to listen to VLV. But she really hates that I like them so much. I think it makes her feel guilty for liking them at all. Or scared that I'll want to talk about them to her. I'm not sure which... :stunned::lol:

The Oasis Thread
^Yep. And his tongue is firmly in his cheek for a lot of his answers. It's part of how his humor works. For instance, hey look- Oasis on a charity album: http://www.chartattack.com/news/60508/give-listen-and-help He has nice things to say too, like this: "Chris Martin’s a friend of mine. And I think Radiohead’s guitarist, Jonny Greenwood, is a f___ genius. Every time I see them live they blow me away."

Radiohead
Good grief- it really is almost a year! :shocked2: I'm still listening to that album weekly, if not daily. More than anything else. I think it's my favorite of theirs. It seems crazy until you realize how much the music world has changed in the last year because of them.

Albums of the Year: 2008
Skybound was officially released January 7th from what I'm looking at. I wouldn't worry about a few homemade albums at concerts unless you voted for it last year. I Am Kloot- again, unless you voted for it last year, I wouldn't worry about a special concert edition. It was released April 14th. I really need to listen to those guys sometime... I love that video of theirs with Chris Eccleston. :nice: Makes me grin like an idiot. Know a good place to start? Thanks for the bump. Have you checked out the 2006 and 2007 master lists yet? There's a link in the first post. We also put together a favorite albums of all-time list a couple of years ago. It should be around here somewhere. Here it is: voting thread: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37354 Results thread: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38820&highlight=albums Wow my tastes have changed... :stunned:

Albums of the Year: 2008
MGMT is fine say I- no one voted for it last year, and it was physically released this year. Final answer. I would really like some feedback on how to handle iffy year-end releases like that though. My ideas: - I'd say anything released after December 15th 2007 is automatically allowed, because that 's when the poll closed. - Split digital 2007/physical 2008 releases are allowed IF no one voted for it in the 2007 poll - Previously unknown releases from November and December 2007, especially with split release dates (eg. December UK, February US) may be allowed on a case-by-case basis IF NO ONE VOTED FOR THEM LAST YEAR. This one I would really like feedback on because it goes against past years' rules, but so many of THE big albums from new artists seem to fall into this category. In the interests of full disclosure, Burial's Untrue was released November 5th, 2007, was never voted for, could count in the 3rd category, and would be near the top of my list if allowed. I would never be the one to call that, though. Dave? Anyone? Thoughts please? :D

Ken Nelson not Eno.
If it's going to be anyone they've worked with already, they should stick with Markus Dravs from what I understand of his role. Eno was more of a mentor while Dravs did the actual production work. I think the world of Ken Nelson, but they probably have gone as far as they can with him. Honestly though, I want to see where they're going to go next. Now that Eno has taught them how to approach it, it should be interesting. Fingers crossed.

the true story behind why chris named his kid "moses" !!!
Yeah,.... cause you know, Chris has been smoking since he was 10 and all. That explains why his voice is ever so low.

Pussy Cat Dolls say they sound like CP!??!?!?
   I hope you people appreciate the torture I put myself through for you. :sick2: So the whole PCD album is up on myspace today, and the Coldplay comparisons had me curious enough to briefly skim it. Apparently, "sounding like Coldplay" actually means "using a piano" on several songs and throwing in a few ballads with an occasional almost-soaring chorus. :dozey: Those songs are still more hiphop/dance than soft rock. Sounds sort of like that goes around comes around song where Justin Timberlake said he was trying to "sound like Coldplay". Better turn off the radio and keep some earplugs handy, though. I wouldn't be surprised if this album is bigger than their last. :sick2: Now for some wonderful new TV on the Radio to clean the slime out of my ears. :nice:

My avatar and signature are bland...but how bland?
Hmm.... well, if the only criteria is "not bland", then you could always try doing an image search for "fractal"...

I'm one of those people who ends up covered in mysterious bruises from absent-mindedly walking into things. I'll sideswipe the coffee table, forget about it a second later, and wonder where that big brown blob on my leg came from two days later.

Gwyneth...
Ok, I'm remembering this from articles written years ago, but didn't Chris make a (typical for him) joke at a show back then in June by dedicating a song to "my girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow", assuming it was obvious that it was just wishful thinking on his part, only for the tabloids to hear about the dedication and run with the story? Which in turn is what got her attention in the first place? Oh my word. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, but I can't help it. I have to say it. And it was all yellow! :laugh3::laugh3::laugh3:

Ike
I'm glad she's ok. :worried: Hope the power comes back soon. Reminds me of hurricane Juan a few years ago- we lost a lot of our trees, everything was a mess and shut down, and the power was out for the better part of a week while the power company tried to re-string pretty much the entire province. That going home to the dark part was especially nasty. Turned out to be a category 3 hurricane, and one of the more traumatic experiences of my life. I wouldn't wish it in anyone. :(

Albums of the Year: 2008
And album would count if it was originally released between December 1st 2007 and the deadline (early December 2008). I'm thinking of breaking with tradition a bit more and pushing it back to November 1st 2007, just because so many things surface later. What do you guys think? MGMT: Released October 2, 2007 (digital) January 22, 2008 (retail) That's a tough one. I think we're at the point where digital releases should count. On the other hand, no one knew about it, and it was physically released in January. Bon Iver - officially released in 2008. Self-released in 2007 but not known about, not voted for, and virtually inaccessible. I'm inclined to allow it since it was a fresh release when he joined a label. I guess the deciding factor for albums like that where they were arguably released in 2008 is whether they were voted for in 2007. Since neither received a single vote last year, I'd say go for it. On Coldplay: Yes, it is a little unfair. We might as well crown it album of the year already. But there are plenty of people who wouldn't normally write a list who will come up with at least 4 other bands just to be able to vote for Coldplay, so I guess leaving them in the vote will be a worthwhile incentive. How about this: If Coldplay win, I'll shift everything up a spot so that there's a separate number one, and just name VLV "King of the Board" or some such thing, but... If Coldplay doesn't win, it will be interesting enough a result to just leave alone.

The Oasis Thread
Yeah, sounds like he's taking it fairly well, all things considered. Freaky how he knew something was going to happen that night, though. "Can’t say much more than that as the “perpetrator’s” gonna get the book thrown at him. Repeatedly." :laugh3:

Pussy Cat Dolls say they sound like CP!??!?!?
^Everyone starts at nothing and works their way into it one skill at a time. Once you master one thing, you can use that knowledge to figure out the next thing, since most systems are built on similar principles, sort of like how a light switch is always at a certain height, usually somewhere near a door no matter what house you're in. Patience, you'll get it. ;)

Rate the latest movie you've seen
Stardust 8.5/10 Great, fun movie. Watched it 3 times in a row. It's not the Princess Bride even if it wants to be, but it comes closer than anything else I've seen. I can see why people think so highly of the author, Neil Gaiman. Pity they marketed it so badly when it came out.

Albums of the Year: 2008
No live or compilation albums. Sorry. Yeah, because 12165 points, 32 votes 1 first place, and an obliterated 2007 list just isn't enough. :inquisitive::P Sorry guys, the official release date was October 10th 2007, if memory serves me. It's had its kudos. And plenty of them. :smug:

Pussy Cat Dolls say they sound like CP!??!?!?
Uggghhh..... To be fair, didn't they get Gary Lightbody and Tim Rice-Oxley to write songs for the album? Or was that what's-her-face's solo album? Either way I can see them wanting to go in that direction, even if it is just wishful thinking. (You know, someone really needs to come up with a name for that whole style rather than just always saying it 'sounds like Coldplay'. Actually, no don't. It'll just give the haters something to focus on.) But ungh... it is wishful thinking, and always will be if they just get 'produced' to sound that way. Stupid manufactured pop music. :dozey: Speaking of what's-her-face, will someone please tell her to get her dirty little hands off Lewis Hamilton?
