The reactions to ETIAW and Paradise are definitely the worst I've ever seen on here, and I've been around for quite a while (joined in 2005). From what I could remember, the only thing that caused any real upset from the Viva era was learning what the title was. A lot of people were upset about the title. Apart from that, there was generally a lot of excitement. I remember quite a few people being uncertain about Violet Hill at first but it certainly wasn't anywhere near the levels of hate we're experiencing now. As for Viva la Vida (the song), I remember there being quite a bit of praise around it. Particularly when it started climbing the charts so high, that was an exciting day in Coldplaying history.

My prediction is PoC is next, followed by Charlie Brown. Though who knows what all the other songs on the album sound like. There's probably another generic radio hit on there somewhere.

I almost wish they had scrapped it now.

When I first saw this thread I thought the OP was being completely over-dramatic. But having heard Paradise and the news Rihanna is on PoC, I'm willing to re-evaluate my opinion on this. It's all rather depressing.

I'm worried it'll be PoC. That'll have to get a single release eventually.

I hope it is really long, because 3 of the songs suck so far and I want to just take those off the version I listen to. And hopefully it'll still feel the length of a proper album.

The live version of PoC came up on my iPod shuffle last night. I could just hear how Rihanna was going to ruin it. I wanted to cry.

Tickets to The National are going on sale in my town tomorrow morning. They're being supported by The Walkmen. I love both bands so much and have never seen either live before so naturally I'm really quite excited. :D

This. There's nothing wrong with expanding your sound and going in different directions. Radiohead are the obvious example here (and probably an overused one). Coldplay themselves even, their sound has progressed quite a bit since Parachutes yet they've still managed to produce four mainly great albums. But this new direction simply isn't working.

My version of the album is 11 songs long at the moment.
