Radio2 Live: Coldplay - 30th August 2008 @ 7pm BST
The website said that they'll call the winners from August 7th and then will be sent a confirmation letter. It's a little bit ambiguous, eh, and I'm prepared for the (unfounded!!) excitement every time the phone rings that day, but it's a bit harsh to possibly make us go through it on Friday as well. Oh well, the chances are so slim in getting these, but best of luck to everyone here :)

New EP March 2009
It's so far away it's hard to believe a word of it, we've seen it so many times before. Just a month or so ago they were saying these songs would be on the next album. Until it's actually scheduled for release in the shops, it's not worth getting excited about imo...

Tottenham Hotspur
Well, it's certainly been an interesting week for us Spuds!! Four quality signings to go along with the new defence Ramos brought in in Jan but hasn't yet integrated, and all the money recouped through getting rid of some dead wood (though I'm sorry to see Steed leave). Glad to see Robbie go, much as he (belatedly) performed for us these last three seasons - if the hearts not there then best to ship him on, and what a price - amazing!! Dos Santos looks like being at least half the player already, at a fifth of what mad Rafa paid for Keano (and half a generation younger!) It's good we didn't pay over the odds for Arshavin in the end either - finally some sense comes to transfers at Spurs, after the ridiculous amounts paid for Bent and Kaboul (hopefully our last big mistakes). Saying that, Bent's looking very good in pre-season, and far better than Berbatov who only Man Utd seem to want (though Barca may come in now). Do hope we are shot of him soon, there's a real energy and expectation around pre-season that I haven't seen since the late eighties, and he's the only one who's out of sorts. Roll on the new season!! :)

The Dark Knight
I'm rarely disappointed with movies, because I don't like to waste my time (on films anyway - I have better ways to pass meaningless time - like lying on my bed or in the bath for hours dreaming!!) and pretty carefully research what I choose to watch. That said, this film WAS brilliant. Having thought about it more, I'd give it 9/10 entertainment value for a film at the cinema, but still only 7/10 as a Batman flick. I expect to be shouted down on this thread, as most people clearly adore it here, and think it's flawless. I'm glad for you all, and 'enjoy it' I say, but I was still disappointed, and as you've been kind enough to ask why, I'll explain just a little. - Gotham didn't feel like Gotham and Batman didn't feel like Batman. I've grown up on Batman since a kid, and for Batman to work as it can we need Gotham to feel like Gotham, and there was little sense of that here, it just felt like Batman in any large industrial/economic US city. There was no Batcave, no Wayne mansion (alright, we all know why) but equally no sense of the macabre, gothic metropolis that is essential for a Batman film. Burton may (arguably) have overdone it, but in this one it was non-existent. Likewise, Batman didn't come across as a remarkable man with a remarkable (though twisted) view of life, who happens to have possessed extraordinary equipment to help him. He came across as a rather bland no-nothing with not much more than riches, Kevlar armour and some remarkable, though highly unlikely (yes by reducing everything to the mundane city-life level they made the fantasy hard to swallow), capes to use every once in a while. They neutered Batman in this one. - The direction of the action sequences was pretty bad. The truck scene was cool, especially when it flipped, but there are some terrible cuts there. The scene when all the hostages are dressed up like the goons - likewise. Forgivable when the film's so long? Yep. Does it justify people talking about this as the best film ever made (or even the best action film ever made)? No way. - Maggie was appalling, and there was no emotional sense at all between her and Bale. There needed to be something. - Harvey Dent's story arc was completed well, but Two-Faces was unnecessary, rushed, and completely under-developed. He should have been the (or 'a') baddie for Batman 3. In fact the whole last quarter of the film was just that (nice as it is to see a long film) unnecessary, rushed, and completely under-developed. Well, that's my critical review, as far as I've gone. I could say more! Please do remember that I've rated this very highly indeed as a piece of entertainment in itself, and just disappointing to me as a Batman flick (with some directorial mis-directions by the powerhouse of story that is Chris Nolan). Anyway, enjoy everyone, and it seems you all are :)

The oracle answered my question!
In the words of a certain good Doctor 'what...what...WHAT?!!' (are you talking about Kara? :\) :)

The Dark Knight
I saw it on Monday, and was thoroughly entertained but ultimately pretty disappointed. 9/10 as a way to pass time, and 7/10 as a Batman film - others have been better I think (including Batman Begins). And why this is rated 12 I cannot begin to imagine...

Most underrated song on the album?
I think almost everyone loves VH, and quite rightly so - it's amazing. I wish they made more of it live, and also left it till later in the set. It was eclipsed far too soon by VLV as a single (probably why it doesn't get the praise it deserves), and shouldn't receive the same treatment at a gig imho. I'd say Yes is almost universally loved too. The one I don't get is Chinese Sleep Chant. An incredible change of direction, and absolutely mind-blowing live. I'd say that and RoL are the two most underrated on the album for sure. Both great tracks.

Lovers in Japan Aged Poorly
It was one of the standout tracks from the very first listen for me, and still is. For me the hinge that the whole album hangs around is LiJ/RoL - it just wouldn't work without it. Eek, get around to it RedGirl!! :shocked2:

Ask the Oracle on Coldplay.com (Now in session!)
Dear Oracle, Clocks is a hugely impressive track, I love it :) But I'm extremely concerned about the risks Chris is taking to make such fine music for all us fans. I wouldn't like to see him injured, and if the waves really are that dangerous my friend has a small boat (with an engine) that he could use next time. It's silly to take such risks for a good tune, don't you think? Equally, there's little point trying to tame tigers in this day and age when Barkins' circus is just down the road from me right now and I still have a spare ticket, just say the word and Chris can join us (as long as he buys the drinks...) Oh, and his pathological fear of lights going out? They have these new energy-saving lightbulbs that are good for ten years or so, so no worries there!! Yours (part-time problem solving oracle) kimchi xxx

Ask the Oracle on Coldplay.com (Now in session!)
Dear Oracle. I'm a huge fan of Lovers in Japan :) But bearing in mind the overwhelming travel preferences of our friends in the Land of the Rising (Osaka) Sun, shouldn't the lyric read 'lovers, keep on the train you're on'??? Yours Kimchi xxx

Viva La Vida Tour - Disapointing Set Lists
I agree. Chris sounds fantastic live recently, but I disagree in that for some reason it doesn't always come across all that well on recordings, either pro or fan shot...no idea why (though I do have a theory). I was at the Brixton and BBC gigs, and for the most part he sounded phenomenal, but that absolutely didn't come across on the broadcasts. Ah well, who cares, we're talking about actually seeing them live in the flesh, right?! As for the setlist, Brixton was the most exciting time I'd seen them live for years, purely because they play so much new stuff (and that was a short set - add in one or two more old classics like Politik and you're all set for an astonishing evening). They look (and sound) like a band re-born. It's nice to daydream of B-sides, but I really hope people realise that they are just daydreams, and don't get disappointed - I'd be surprised if there were more than one or two played this whole tour, and even then they'll probably be new ones for the singles that they're in the middle of writing.

No other Coldplay song tops POLITIK
Indeed there is! A cry from the heart!! :)

No other Coldplay song tops POLITIK
One of their best for me for sure, but then there are so many others are fighting right there at the top of the list for room to be heard (and not just from Coldplay, it's one of the most impressive songs I've ever encountered)!! I think it gives me the most goosebumps of all their tracks when they play it live, closely followed by Warning Sign, the cry in Lovers in Japan, and the opening of Don't Panic. To not play it live is really something :( (though if the band have fallen out of love with it for some reason I understand, but still not entirely thrilled...)

General Chat: Setlist
Coldplay will never play for two hours, sorry to say. The best thing is to expect only around an hour and a half, and thank your lucky stars for each and any minute over that...

Violet Hill(live) correct chords.
ooh, thank you :) Another reason to get my guitar re-strung.

Watch out Glastonbury!
I'm quite prepared to stick my neck out here and say that there won't ever be anything in Europe to rival Glastonbury (whether or not it sells out, or even if they ever decided to reduce the capacity by 50%, which'll never happen). It's just so special.

Waiting around after a show.
In the UK it's going to vary show by show, depending on the location, the geography, how the guys feel...all sorts of things. At Brixton they stayed for a fair while. They might do the same for the O2 gigs in December, but only if they feel like it - they will have plenty of important guests to entertain afterwards if they want to. But they can leave at anytime through a number of exits - and then just hop on a private boat and be off, into the 'waiting arms' of a car and away from the madness in five or so minutes.

Did You Make A COLDPLAY Sign?
Cool Kara, I hadn't, so thank you! Just drives home how 'meant to be' Brixton and the BBC were, again (as if it needed driving home!!) :D
