1. From 8 years ago. Very interesting story. He 'wouldn't make anything of himself', oh how that person had egg on his face! bit.ly/1CRX6kZ < Coldplaying.com article: Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin has reveal how revenge against a school bully was a “pretty sweet” dish. Speaking to the Sun, the 30-year-old musician told of how he was picked on at the posh Dorset school Sherborne for being, in his own words, “a bit of a swot” that preferred playing the piano and guitar over sports. While out and about with his Hollywood beauty of a wife Gwyneth Paltrow, who he married three years ago and has two children with, Chris happened to see the boy who made his school days “hell” and couldn’t resist a bit of revenge. “He was a bully who always said I wouldn’t make anything of myself,” he added. But the Yellow singer left his former school pal red-faced. “I had great pleasure asking what he was up to now. He wasn’t up to much. Then I turned around and said, ‘This is my wife Gwyneth.’ His face dropped and he looked really embarrassed.” “It was a proud moment. I’m not one to get my own back and look for revenge — but that was pretty sweet,” a smug Chris told the newspaper. And can you deny the man a bit of sweet revenge? He may have been the school geek but with 8.3 million copies of Coldplay’s last album sold in 2005, Chris and his Hollywood wife are laughing all the way to the bank.

5. Rumours are circulating online amongst One Direction fans that the band’s former member who quit last week, Zayn Malik is recording a new track for an upcoming solo project along with Coldplay’s very own Chris Martin. The rumour comes from Zayn Malik's sister, Safaa who accidentally let slip of news of the collaboration to friends. The track reportedly called 'Leave Me Alone' will be featured on Zayn’s rumoured solo album. Naughty Boy the producer behind 'La La La' is said to be working alongside him on his new project. Zayn’s upcoming LP is said to have a “slowed down sexual R&B sound” according to Sugarscape online, it is possible that this could feature in the potential collaberation. Zayn was spotted going into a studio the day after it was announced he had left One Direction. Chris has spoken very highly of One Direction in the past so maybe he was hinting at a potential collaboration all along. Chris said during his interview with Zane Lowe last year; “I think One Direction are the biggest band in the world, their songs are great. I’m saying One Direction are great and I’m not kidding.” Coldplay’s upcoming album tentatively titled A Head Full Of Dreams has been described by Chris that it “will be fun to shuffle your feet a little bit”. Who knows, maybe this collaboration could hint to what A Head Full Of Dreams will sound like!
6. My personal prediction would be for an arena tour at the end of this year so hopefully that will be right :D I bet there will be some sort of Coldplay exclusive on 'Tidal' for the next era. It's not ideal as it's not widely available but not locked to a certain country like Target was!
7. Here's the article I just published on Coldplaying.com - a summary too for those who are not sure about what all of this means Link (taking out most of the pics) Wandering what all the fuss is about with the Cyan coloured backgrounds on Facebook/Twitter? It was all part of the (re)launch for Jay-Z's new streaming service, 'Tidal Hifi'. The new alternative to popular services, such as Spotify wanted to introduce itself with a bang and that certainly happened, with a huge gathering of celebrities, including Coldplay's Chris Martin (via Satellite), Jack White and Kanye West. [video=youtube;g4K3vMZPACQ]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4K3vMZPACQ A massive media storm has been created by the wave of celebrities singing up to 'Tidal', rivaling Apple's upcoming streaming service. The reason why they were all so eager to join in? Aside from Chris Martin and other celebs being good friends with rapper, Jay-Z, they all own a share in 'Tidal', making them co-owners of the company! The original launch happened 6 months ago but it was under-stated and Jay-Z will be hoping for bigger things this time round. 'Tidal Hifi' has announced itself as the first artist owned platform for music and video but will it change the music industry and make a lasting impact? Before we tell you more about the services of 'Tidal Hifi', the clash of interests between Apple and all of the artists involved in Jay-Z's new streaming service may potentially cause a divide between bands/artists. Coldplay, in particular have always had friendly ties with Apple and have seen their friends, U2 and Zane Lowe both sign up with Apple recently. Chris Martin and co have always, in recent times being happy to cross divides and showcase their music across all platforms. There are even rumours of the band signing up to Apple, in the same way U2 have, after their current record deal expires following the release of their next album, A Head Full Of Dreams. It's also worth knowing of Jay-Z's co-venture offer for Apple. The rapper's intentions were not to rival Apple but after the collaboration offer was declined by the corporation's Jimmy Lovine, the two streaming services, the re-designed by Apple 'Beats Music' and 'Tidal Hifi' will go head-to-head rather than side-by-side. Streaming is increasingly popular, particularly among fans who listen to music on their mobile devices. But what benefits will you get with Tidal's new service? It's major punch is the lossless audio, rather than the standard 320kbps. Coldplay's latest three albums, from Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends, through to Ghost Stories will sound very impressive indeed, seeing as they cranked up the production and sound layers in their music, since Brian Eno's arrival to the band's studios in 2008. 'Tidal' can also boast about their very neat presentation and the 'exclusives' the service has promised to offer. Their are two pricing options, at $10 for the standard quality service or $20 for their 'lossless' high quality audio streaming. Artists/bands, who are available to stream on 'Tidal' will receive a larger % of profits compared to every other streaming service. Jay-Z and co do not possess a large degree of control over the music industry (Yet anyway), as record labels will still have the final say. With a long term strategy though, artists/bands such as Coldplay could be poached from their record labels, after their contract finishes. 'Tidal' has some questionable points too. Their $20 price package in the U.S. is £20 in the UK. You don't have to have an economics degree to work out that the price doesn't fairly translate! The $20 price alone has also begged the question, is double the price worth that increase in audio quality? And, are more exclusives from a different service really what the music industry needs? Music fans end up being excluded and are either forced to pay for it all, tie their loyalties to one service or search for alternative means. What do you think of Tidal's new streaming service? Let us know on our popular forum thread for the launch. The (re)launch itself has gone down a treat on our forums but fans are generally skeptical on the service itself: By Black Rose:
Another streaming service, more albums tied up to just one provider on "exclusively" deals. More illegal downloading of said albums by consumers unwilling to pay for 3/4 different services in order to listen to albums. I wonder what "Tidal"s unique selling point will be over the competition to give it an edge, apart from "exclusive" deals?
Nev72 wrote...
Really don't think they've thought this Tidal thing properly. Here are a few problems I've come up with: 1. Why would people part with $20 a month ($240 a year) for the most expensive service of its kind which is run by a group with a combined wealth running into multiple billions of dollars whilst their main rival Spotify charges half of that? From the outside looking in, it looks like these artists are getting greedy. 2. Why are they short-changing the UK market? They're charging £20 a month in the UK which is the equivalent of $29.50. In other words, this service costs nearly 50% more than it does in America! A yearly subscription therefore costs £240/$355 a year, which is a huge amount of money! Spotify does exactly the same thing as well which I don't get. It doesn't cost any extra to provide the same service in the UK, so why charge significantly more!!! 3. Does the USP of hi-quality music really warrant £10/$10 extra? Not really. 4. I looked at most of the 'owners'' Spotify profiles and all of the ones I looked at had their entire music catalogue on there. You would have at least expected them to take their music off Spotify wouldn't you? Especially Jay-Z. So, in short, the combined wealth of the owners runs into multiple billions of dollars (IE. They are set for life, and they've set their children and their children, and almost certainly their children as well, up for life so they don't really need any more money), they are charging double the price of their main rivals, where I can still get all of the owners' music, the only USP over Spotify is a higher quality sound and they are also short-changing UK consumers (and probably consumers in many other countries) Sorry Chris, but just because you're endorsing this, it doesn't mean that I'm going to buy it. There is still the standard $10/£10 version, but given that this is exactly the same as Spotify, it's going to be tough for them to get subscriptions, even with the superstar endorsements.
Have you tried out 'Tidal'? We would like to hear from you. Please let us know about your Coldplay experience, while using the streaming service.
8. Are you getting the same message on the forums and other websites (those which use Adsense)?
9. I will let Phil know to check this thread for everyone's suggestions :) One of my suggestions is South Africa again - A lot of my family are from there and haven't been in about 15 years. Would love to go back there , for a Coldplay concert :D
10. "The creative boss" and "the most important" member of Coldplay, to quote Chris Martin. He's the man behind the scenes, who is instrumental to the band's success. We've been chatting to Phil Harvey about his personal upbringing, the inner workings of the band, what the story is with Glastonbury and more. Coldplay are currently working on their new album, A Head Full Of Dreams and are not revealing much at this moment about the record but we are sure it will be worth the wait!
Coldplaying.com Interview with Phil Harvey
Thank you for your time to chat with Coldplaying Phil. We would like to know firstly, where did you grow up? And who was your childhood hero? I grew up in Devon - about 30 minutes from Chris’ parents' house. We went to the same school. My early childhood heroes were Phil Collins and Richard Hadlee (the New Zealand cricketer). At a certain point in my teenage years I had to make a choice between cricket and music… and music won. What if you had to pick one song that defines the band? Or if they could only play one song out of their catalog what would it be? I think it would have to be Clocks. To this day, I still don’t really understand where that song came from and how the band managed to record it so quickly (a few days before we had to deliver AROBTTH to the record company). [video=youtube;d020hcWA_Wg] [video=youtube;QeJumiH5aF0] What kind of music that influence the band most of the time and why? In the early years there were certain bands who had a massive influence on the band’s sound: U2, Radiohead, Echo and the Bunnymen, REM, The Flaming Lips, etc, etc. As time has go on, I think the band have become more catholic in their tastes. They will literally listen to - and draw influence from - anything. If you or anyone of the band (if you are willing to ask them) were a great artist and had the skills to make a painting of whatever they wanted, what would it be? I would do a painting of my wife and our two boys (probably with Ajax, our cocker spaniel, as well). Do you or anyone of the band has a favourite ambient genre artist/song (or something in that direction) and who/what is it? It has to be the godfather of ambient… Brian Eno. Is there any possibility that Coldplay will be playing at Glastonbury anytime soon? We would love to play Glastonbury again…it’s the best festival in the world.. but there’s a lot of competition for headline slots so we’ll just have to wait and see if we get asked... There is a campaign for Chris to be honored by his home city of Exeter. A lot of the newspapers came out with a story saying Chris had refused it. What is the latest news regarding this? Chris was bowled over by this incredible honor from his hometown. He didn’t refuse it, but he asked if the City would allow him to do 'something significant for Exeter’ before he accepted the award. He feels that he hasn’t quite earned it yet. Question about Chris. Does he undergo a special fitness routine prior to or during a large Coldplay tour? Chris always trains pretty hard but he definitely ramps it up in preparation for a tour. He’s the fittest person I know. Are Coldplay planning on playing in countries they have never been to before? Yes. 100%. All suggestions welcome! What is your favorite concert venue? Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival What would say is your biggest achievement in your music career so far? Staying close friends with Chris, Guy, Will and Jonny. The guys said in an interview recently that the record deal was coming to an end, will they be creating their own label? I don’t think so. It sounds like a lot of work! Thank you very much Phil for taking an opportunity to interview with us, we can’t wait to see what the band have in store for Coldplayers because you guys have the best fans in the world. We have set up a suggestion thread, where you can voice your opinion on where Coldplay should play for their next world tour!
11. Following our interview with Phil Harvey, he has told us Coldplay welcome all suggestions on where to go for next world tour. Feel free to post your suggestion on this thread and expand on why you think they should, if you wish :)
12. Shouldn't be any problems with the ads now. I have changed plugins. If there is still, let me know :)
13. [video=youtube;kJa2kwoZ2a4] And the Youtube comment : "I take major life decisions while listening to this song"
14. Nah, it's not nitpicky, that's what I want to hear, when those sort of errors are present of course. A lot of the time, there are the odd few bugs or even big ones which I don't find out for a while or never, because no one ever tells me and then it can't be fixed/improved so appreciate anything you can point out :) There are some stuff which can't be changed other than changing the Wordpress theme. It's not perfectly responsive. It's a nice theme but that's the downside of it. I'm planning to tidy up the links, it is a bit messy in that regard. Didn't notice the 404 errors before so i'll sort that out when I take a look at it. The slider is sort of a timeline / news highlight. Usually, I would delete old posts to make room for newer ones but i'll review it and have a think about its layout. What OS and browser are you using? I'll try to test it out myself. For the ads, i'm assuming the same happens for you with all of the ads on the site? Is anyone else getting the issue with the Ads? (or any bugs you have noticed that haven't been mentioned)
15. If that's largely the case, it's very interesting because that's something they did before X&Y but they scraped a lot of the songs because there wasn't enough chemistry when recording in a different place from each other, or something along those lines.
16. I posted on his blog comments asking that question. I don't think we'll get an answer but you never know :P
17. Update on the recording stage of 'A Head Full Of Dreams', from Rik Simpson himself: http://www.riksimpson.com/blog/a-head-full-of-music#comments
18. I lol'ed earlier when I saw the Youtube comment for Dead Inside: 'Hit me baby one more time....I mean Dead Inside', the intro is a little uncanny haha! I like it though. Not sure which I prefer out of the two. I am still interested in the album. The more varied the better too. Something like what Linkin Park did with 'The Hunting Party' where it's pretty much all full on rock would of been too predictable. Hoping for quality tracks!
19. I'm not sure if the plane being 24 years old has much of an impact in terms of safety, maybe someone can expand further on this? Terrible tragedy, no chance on that terrain for the passengers :(
