  1. I think you got the words mainstream and pop mixed up. As I said in my post both GS and MX are mainstream records but GS fits more into the POP category because of reasons mentioned. The Black Keys do not make POP albums. Mainstream yes but its ALTERNATIVE mainstream.
  2. Thanks for the info. I daydream about Roger working with them! :D Damn him!
  3. Agree with all you said. As for the question, I think its both a musical and a marketing choice. This is very evident in the way they've been choosing their singles recently in that usually the most accessible and at times mediocre songs on the album become singles. Things would have been very different if for example Major Minus or DLIBYH were singles instead of Paradise or ETIAW. I also think Chris is now influenced by very different musicians compared to the Parachutes days. Something that actually worried me was when he said on Zane Lowe he seriously thinks One Direction are great. The Chris Martin of 2002 would have hated them :D While MX is definitely more mainstream and appealing to the masses, I think GS fits into the pop category perfectly. ASFOS, Ink, Magic, Another's Arms, O etc all confirm this. Plus there is barely any guitar on the album and no drums.
  4. ^ Very true. Its funny how the mediocrity of your favorite band causes you to look and search for better music. I've always had Pink Floyd and U2 though long before Coldplay. The War on Drugs are very good by the way. They're more of a brand now more than ever just like 1D, Gaga and Jay-Z etc. I think they're extremely constrained as to what they can put out. That's the problem with trying to appeal to a wider audience.
  5. I was just listening to A Whisper Instrumental for the millionth time and realized how pure yet complex their music was back then. Every once in a while I go back and it all comes to me why I fell in love with this band. Of course the moment someone mentions a return to their older sound everyone goes berserk here. I wouldn't want AROBTTH 2.0 either but there is SOMETHING that's been missing in their music. I'm not capable to put it into words what it exactly is that they're missing. But I'm sure of it. Maybe it had an "edge" to it as the critics say and it no longer does. Don't get me wrong I'm in love with GS and I think its beautiful. But it just doesn't do it for me the way AROBTTH did. This isn't unusual however as it happens with a lot of other bands. But more so with Coldplay. I don't exactly know what I want with LP7. Maybe for them to just start like they're 19 again. No production. No synths; and lots and lots of guitar and heavy drums!
  6. I'm thinking of the Palestinian people. All this torture and humiliation and misery for decades. I hope the Zionists and all the countries supporting them pay for this one day. No empire lasts forever.
  7. What a dismal world cup!
  8. It was one of my favorites from the moment I first listened to it. Love it!
  9. More evidence Chris can actually write decent lyrics. I like the song but I wish the band would quit the oooooh uuuuuuuuuu ooooooh ohhhhoooos already.
  10. The song is magnificent. Partly because of the strings but mostly because of Jonny's solo. I'd be hugely disappointed if they cut it from the single. It certainly demonstrates their rock roots, something that has been absent for a while since they chose the most pop/mediocre songs on MX and VLV to be released as singles.

I included that last part in my post above. I think initially when he wrote the song he intended for the last part to be similar to the rest of it but he changed the lyrics while recording.
  12. I'm freaking out people! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON!
  13. nvdmm replied to Tash's topic in Ghost Story
Because it sounds like the Coldplay I fell in love with!
  14. ^ Its VERY crazy!

Maybe I'm just a ghost Disappear when anybody's close Go through you when you try to hold Try to hold me near Maybe I'm just a ghost Emptier than anybody knows Maybe I'm on the ropes Or I'm not even here Yeah! Every time I try to walk through walls More walls appear Whats the point of feeling love for you when you don't believe I'm here Whats the point of trying to raise your voice if no one ever hears Every time I try to pull you close You disappear Maybe I'm a ghost Juts a whisper in a puff of smoke A secret that nobody knows No one will ever hear Or maybe I'm a ghost A specter on a roller coaster A thorn without a rose Something people fear Yeah! Every time I thought I walk through walls Its all become clear Whats the point of feeling love for you when you don't believe I'm here Whats the point in saying rescue me if no one ever hears Every time I try to pull you close You disappear Every time I try to pull you close You disappear Every time I thought I walk through walls Its all become clear Every time I try to pull you close You disappear Every time I try to pull you close You disappear Great lyrics. I'm yet again frustrated this song wasn't on the album!
  16. Absolutely great lyrics.
  17. They'll probably cut Jonny's solo from the single to make it more digestible for pop radios.
  18. Honestly I don't really like it. After the disaster that was Charlie Brown I thought they're gonna ditch the whole sugary rainbow balloons kinda thing. You compare it to "Where the streets have no name" or "I Still Haven't Found..." and its almost laughable. But then again that is U2 we're talking about. Anyway there are much better songs on the album that could have replaced ASFOS as a single but since the band is trying to push the whole pop mainstream image I guess it wouldn't have worked out.

^ Very true. Agree with you both. Everything the band has ever done with strings is absolutely breathtaking. I've always wondered what if they incorporated more of it into their music.
  20. This seems to divide people more than the other songs on the album. I personally think its the most creative one along with Ghost Story. And his vocal melody is superb.
  21. nvdmm replied to Tash's topic in True Love
This is one of the most beautiful songs they've ever created. I've been listening to it everyday and it just takes your breath away every single time. And Jonny's work on it deserves a thread of its own!!
  22. Great in-depth response  Absolutely loved your post
  23. What the hell is this?!!
  24. macfarlane is the creator, main writer and all around boss of the show. The "writers" you mentioned practically don't do anything. Absolutely. They just hate Coldplay a little more. Remember this?! [video=youtube;VFUoraeqegY] But let me make it clear I am in no way mad about this. Its an unfunny show targeting white middle class males with wildly prejudiced views. So I pretty much do what the band do and ignore it.
