  1. Reply Absolutely! I just said that, if they take a year off, they'll probably have their own ideas for a song come up and they may want to run to the studio to jot it down or record it, whether alone or together. Then, once they decide to end their hiatus, they can demo their recordings to one another and then use them here and there in new songs. We should know how their songwriting process works, in general, by now - they tear every little thing apart and find what works and what doesn't and then they begin piecing the final song together from everything they like. Weren't there about 9 versions of LeftRightLeftRightLeft that might have never been made into one? For all we know, parts of it were added into newer material (some of which we STILL may have never heard). So, yes, they all contribute to the writing process and have a say in the sound. Plotting down their own ideas over a time off wouldn't hinder that from happening. We know that they can use any riff, any sound, any note, and find a way to make it work to their liking in a track. I'm excited to see where they go next and what they have to bring to the table!
  2. Progression into the LP6 Era A lot has been said so far about what the next album may sound like, but it is ultimately impossible to tell at this point. If Phil is to be trusted (which, I'd say, he is), then I could see LP6 being much more stripped back compared to Mylo Xyloto. If they're in a trilogy sort of a mood, I'm sure they could continue with Eno, Hopkins, Dravs, et al and create an album that could fit into the trilogy but still be cut back in scape. Whatever it is, I'm looking forward to it. The main reason I wanted to post is to offer this thought: The last of the tour seems to be fast approaching and they aren't adding anymore dates beyond the current last date. If they do, it will probably be later this year or early next year. But my thought is that the last date could very well be the end of this era, as they're starting to sell off all of their Mylo Xyloto-era artwork and whatnot and clear things out. If this means anything, it's a sign that they're starting to prepare The Bakery and The Beehive for whatever is coming next. My guess is that they're going to go ahead and clear things out so that it will be in order for future work and if they should take a break next year, the studios will be cleaned out so that they can pop in and out if they need to play something they've created or write something new if they have a creative spurt come upon them and need the space to do it. That applies to each member separately, meaning that they could individually go about the studios as they please. Without the hiatus, then the studios will be ready in time for the new year so they can begin creating LP6. Concerning further touring, if they should add some South American dates or further U.S./Europe dates, I would imagine that there would only be a small handful of shows added so that they could focus most of their attention to writing. So, just going by their history as a band and general tendencies, I'd say that they're going to wrap up this tour, take the rest of November and then December off to rest and recuperate from touring, possibly take January off (maybe stopping into the studio on occasion), and then get the ball rolling in February. The website will probably change in some way, shape, or form in the late spring or summer 2013, and then we'll start hearing news about LP6 in the fall (between September and December 2013). The album would be ready anywhere between March and October 2014. If they take next year off, then you can shift everything back a year and should expect an album in late 2014 or early to mid 2015. Based off of their history, this is my guess as to how the LP6 era will play out. Let's see how close or far from the truth I am as time goes on! It's always exciting to see what's going on in the world of Coldplay. :D I haven't posted here in a very long time! I "abandoned thread" during the mid-stages of the MX era as things got kind of scary and rather intense. LOL. Here's to a happy, exciting LP6 era!
  3. Supposed Error Yeah, there is no continuation error here. In the corridor, he simply has the guitar slid down so that it's hanging by his right side rather than in front of him. I'll do something like that occasionally. Score one for the band/filming agency/O2. Lolz
  4. Music Midtown 2011 So, after all this time, I finally got to experience Coldplay live tonight at the festival. One of my best birthday presents yet! Got as close to the front as we could (had a friend with me). The bass was blowing me away at times, but it was a totally awesome, unforgettable experience. "Mylo Xyloto", "Hurts Like Heaven", "Major Minus", "Paradise", "Charlie Brown". . . all the new ones they played sounded great. Yes, even "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall". It was a shame that they didn't play "Us Against the World", but the tribute was nice anyway. I can't wait for them to come back around this way (Alabama/Georgia) again so I can see them for a second time. And, I've got to say, even if you don't like some of the new songs from what you've heard, hearing them live is a totally different experience that changes everything about the song. In the end, you haven't truly heard the song until you've heard it live and in person. Great job to the boys and I can't wait to see what they do next! If anyone wants to know anything about the concert/festival, feel free to ask! Cheers.
  5. Enough If I was an artist doing what I like to do best and provide something to which people could listen whenever the wanted as well as make a dime and then read several thousand comments about how much like s*** my new material sounded, especially after working on it incredibly hard, I wouldn't feel very humorous either, Mr. Campbell. I can understand how Chris feels here, and I wouldn't want to be funny either at this point. Stop posting here if you're going to keep trolling. Your opinions are subjective to your own bias and are not objective or constructive in any way shape or form. You're not contributing to this forum in any way possible. Henceforth, unless you have something objective/constructive to say, just don't say it because it's past the point of annoying. If you hate this era so much, then stop reading into any Coldplay news, stop getting on this forum and talking trash about it, and go about your life listening to "Parachutes", "A Rush of Blood to the Head", and the select songs on "X&Y" and "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends" for which you care, working your job, and doing whatever else it is you can do in your spare time, other than getting on this website and posting garbage. "Mylo Xyloto" will go multi-platinum due to the fact that it's Coldplay, it's got popular elements spread throughout it that people love to hear, and it fits within the boundaries of a successful record, which are set by the Music Industry (appeal to future, appeal to popularity, appropriate style, appropriate rhythms, appropriate colors, etc). People all over the world love Coldplay and are open for a different sound, and "millions of people can't be wrong". Enough is enough.
  6. Indeed No sir! You are not alone. I've loved everything I've heard. I think this new album is going to be incredibly good. Quite frankly, I don't care if I'm alone on that stance. I'm very open when it comes to music, so they can do almost whatever they want with it and I'll be happy. Although, I'm not that big on rap. So, as long as that's left out, it'll be great. If it is in there, it better be a darn good rap!
  7. Also Really? Let's not forget "No Line On the Horizon", where he also acted as a writer for the songs. Eno guided U2 through "The Unforgettable Fire", but he was a band member with "No Line. . ." If you get the chance, go look at the credits for that album and he is ALL over it. At the end of the day, Brian Eno has been a great (crucial) influence on Coldplay, but it is by their conscious decision that they choose to let him work with them and it is by their decision to put songs on the album that are heavily influenced by him. He doesn't force them to do anything. I can't say it's right to blame the sound of the album on Eno when it was Coldplay who hired him in the first place and made the choice to let him influence them so heavily (which is an A+++ in my book because I love the heck out of what he has done with the boys). Just thought it would be worth keeping that in mind. It would be interesting to see what their music would be like today had they not hired him (not saying it would be better or worse!).
  8. Perspective "Let's go back to the start." First, "Pop" is not a genre. Rather, it's a description of what it popular at the time. From the day Coldplay released "Yellow" and went "viral", they have been part of the Pop scene -- Pop artists. Just because you have some bright, upbeat, synth and drum driven song doesn't mean you're genre is "Pop". It's whatever is popular at the time. Therefore, yes, you thought correctly. Chopin, Mozart and Handle were also Pop artists back a few of centuries ago. Today we call the music they wrote "Classical", but it's ultimately defined by the period from which it came (Renaissance, Impressionist, etc.). Mozart was at the helm of the Pop scene at his time! This being said, if you want to talk about genre, it would be best to speak in terms of Alternative, Soft Rock, Hard Rock, R&B, Hip-Hop, Drum and Bass, Folk, etc. And, for the record, Coldplay is mainstream, as they are listened to by a very wide variety of people, have gone multi-platinum, and make m-m-m-m-millions from their music. Second, concerning Rihanna's inclusion on the album, I can assure you that considering it a flop/failure and being the worst Coldplay song in history is not going to get you anywhere fast and is actually a pretty silly thing to do. You haven't heard it. You have no idea the role she is going to play on the song. You don't know what she is going to sing and what she isn't going to see. But, from the looks of things, I'd say it's pretty safe to say that her part will be effective for its purpose and will work quite well. For Will Champion to approve her singing in that song says A LOT about her part. And let it be known that the track listing that was revealed on Coldplay's website with the artwork behind it is most likely what's going to be on the back of the CD/Vinyl, meaning that Rihanna's name will not be "featured" next to the title, "Princess of China", unless they were clever and edited it from the picture so we wouldn't know until today. But, unless that's true, it's not going to say "Princess of China (ft. Rihanna)" or something of the like, which most likely means that her part in the song is not altogether very grand. (Also, Coldplay are NOT sell-outs for hiring her on board for the song. They'd be selling-out big time if they stopped using real instruments, featured a rapper on each of their songs, and had other people write their music for them. But this is nowhere close to selling out, so let's just calm down and collect ourselves and have a good cuppa tea until it all blows over) Lastly, on a side note, I can assure you that all of the instrumentation in "Paradise" is quite real (Piano, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Strings, Handclaps, etc). By no means are any of the instruments being produced using a keyboard and a computer. The strings are very likely being played by Davide via an electric violin, which would be plugged into an amp or computer (for recording purposes), the bass is being played on Guy's bass, per usual, but is running through a different amp than usual, and Chris' voice and piano and Jonny's guitar are unadulterated. As for anything else you hear, that's the "enoxifcation" (which would be done through a computer or some special hardware, not by an instrument) about which we've been told. Ah, yes, and the xylophone is also real, along with the (sleigh) bells. The song is full and well mixed (kudos to Rik Simpson and Dan Green). I, personally, am excited about Mylo Xyloto and can't wait to hear the wide variety of influences on the album. I can assure you it will be very different from what you're used to hearing from Coldplay, but it will be a wonderful album, nonetheless, containing something for everyone. I hope you all may find this useful. The Music Industry is a vastly changing place, but being a part of it is like nothing else. I am a rising Audio Engineer/Singer/Songwriter/Producer, and I can tell you that you're in for a wild ride with the Industry over the next few years. You can trust what I tell you, as I'm not just some fanboy trying to protect the dignity of my band, but, instead, look at (their) music objectively, listening closely to every aspect of the song(s) at hand in the light of the music past, present, and future. I hope everyone is well and that, even if "Princess of China" doesn't impress you, there will be a song for you on the new record that you can enjoy whole-heartedly and appreciate from now until you grow old and lose your hearing (but we can hope that won't happen)! Cheers.
  9. Lol Trololololol-lol-lol-lol-lol-lol-lol, oh-oh-oh-oh-ooooh.
  10. LOL Trololololololololololol!!!! Sorry, I needed to see this. :)
  11. Reply YES!! Freaking YES!! Thank you!! What a breath of fresh air!!! Agree 110%
  12. Reply "Xylobrytes" was absolutely NOT made up by some guy (me) lying in order to get attention!!! I gave solid proof concerning from where the word came. I'll even post the link and the approximate second in the video at which point you can see the word! Here! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4stzGUJACZo]‪Princess of China - Coldplay [HD] - Rock im Park 2011 (title of new album spoiled?!)‬‏ - YouTube[/ame] "M" appears very large at 2:09 - 2:10, and "Xylobrytes" appears in a much smaller font at 2:11- 2:13. I am NOT lying! Give me a freaking break. . .
  13. Reply/Statement Thank you very much! And thanks to everyone else who agreed with me! I just don't like that people give the song a tough time just because they did something with his voice without possibly considering that it might be there for an actual purpose other than merely to make his voice sound different. And for those who did consider this but still don't like it, fair enough. It is your opinion, after all. I just wanted to add perspective to what's going on with his voice in this song. But something to realize and keep in mind is that bands try and progress, changing their sound and style over time, in order to keep things fresh, alive, and new. The hardcore fans of their earlier music may find it hard to embrace the new material, and those who came into the picture around the "X&Y"/"Viva La Vida" eras may find it easier. And this is understandable. "Parachutes" was so stripped down and simple in its sound and was easy to listen to. "A Rush of Blood to the Head" was similar, but a bit heavier with a little bit going on in each piece. Of course, the rest is history. But we have to allow bands (Coldplay, in this case) to progress with their music how they wish, whether we like it or not. I don't say this because I think your opinion is irrelevant, but because it is crucial to their creativity, morale, and passion to write music in the first place. If they keep writing the same style music over and over again, they will wear out fast and grow tired of it and would probably just stop playing all together, and I don't think any of us want that to happen... I know this because I, too, am a musician who has been writing music for a few years, and I can tell you that if I didn't change things up every now and then, I'd be bored out of my mind! So, for the sake of the band's creative health and passion, just let them do what they're trying to do, and it's very possible that one day in the future when they've experimented with everything they possibly can, they'll come back with an album of very stripped-down, simple music that will regain the love and care of the fans of their older material and will still satisfy the needs of the fans of their newer material. U2 did this before, remember? After "Joshua Tree"/"Rattle and Hum", they released "Achtung! Baby", "Zooropa", and "Pop", all of which were VERY different from their previous works (in good ways and bad ways), but at the start of the new decade (2000), they released "All That You Can't Leave Behind", which saw a U2 returning to a very stripped down sound that was refreshing and satisfying to fans of all eras of U2's music. They were able to go through an interesting phase in the 1990's and do what they wanted, and then were able to go back to writing the stripped down music that we know and love. Just as they've done this, I imagine Coldplay will too. Don't give up hope on Coldplay ever writing simple music ever again. It will happen. Just let them experiment and try to enjoy the ride along the way. if you don't, they have a nice back-catalog for you to listen to until then. I don't mean to offend anyone with this post. I just want everyone to know that the Coldplay of old will probably one day show itself again after they've enjoyed taking some new, bold steps with their music. I applaud them for what they're doing and I'm looking forward to what they have for us in the future!
  14. Vocals You know, if this song wasn't about the subject matter it is (always being watched, paranoia, etc), I don't think the filter on Chris' voice throughout most of the song would fit. But, due to what the song's about, I think it fits perfectly within the context of the lyrics. It's a dark song and the muffled voice just contributes to it. Not to mention at least one other person (Will) is singing with him in the verses. So, I think it works and fits (and I like it). But to each his own. I'm just putting perspective on the vocal filter so that it could give you a different angle to think about it from.
  15. MM I actually believe that the verses are sung between Chris and Will. Had to listen close, but there are definitely two different voices there. So, I think that explains why his voice sounds odd during the verses.
  16. Rainy Day replied to iPsy's topic in Coldplay
MX I'm glad someone noticed that! It's in one of the videos of "Princess of China" on the screen in the background as the artwork passes by (around the 2:06 mark).
  17. Title That was my first immediate thought as a title!
  18. MX MX= M (the rest of the word is undetermined) Xylobrytes Go watch the shorter video for "Princess of China" and look around the 2:07 mark. M-Xylobrytes
  19. MX M-Xylobrytes Go watch one of the videos for "Princess of China" where you can see the screen in the back up close and watch around the 2:06-2:07 point and you'll see this. The "X" revealed, finally?
  20. Future On paper, this looks great. I know. A land where the three big religions can abide peacefully... And it may happen one day for a few years... But only for a few. I speak of this Biblically, though. If peace were to ever come in Israel and harmony was to break out amongst the groups, biblically speaking, that means the end is near and I'd be getting ready for the end. Then again, I understand not everyone believes the Scriptures and I will not force that on anyone, but it's something to keep in mind. If peace ever comes to Israel, in 3 1/2 years time, take note of if it remains peaceful or if chaos breaks out. Just something to hold onto for future reference, regardless of belief. I didn't believe we would be raptured on May 21st 2011, but I still kept it in mind to see what would happen (nothing at all). I'm just promoting that the same concept be applied with this situation. It would be interesting. Brotherhood is very important, but in a world full of brothers and sisters, sometimes we seem to forget who our brothers and sisters are and, instead, look to our own personal interests and gains. Love is the key to the survival of mankind. If we don't love, we won't live. What does that have to do with Coldplay? Well... Not much, really. But I just hope this is a political move and not a personal one by them. They were supporting the song, after all, due to a number of their friends being in it...
  21. History Balfour Declaration. THANK YOU for pointing this out.
  22. Depression/Influences Must your glass always be so half-empty? I can understand one's personal preferences for music being very specific, but just because your opinion is that way, it doesn't mean the rest of ours is... I'm sure there are many who share your feelings about Viva... But could you tone down the pessimism just a bit? I mean this in all due respect to your opinions. It can just be a bummer for those who have higher hopes/different feelings. I can understand where you are coming from, though. Also, I think "country" was probably used veeery much out of place as a description for the song. If there is any other influence Coldplay used, it would probably be folk instead of country, which is far better, in my honest opinion. But I have a feeling that we were being lead on/lied to in that post. Tomorrow, we will know the truth about this song.
  23. Israel The Israeli government is not being humanitarian? Please. When the Palestinian government stops firing rockets into Israel and threatening to blow it to pieces, then we can talk about Israel's humanitarian efforts. I'm sure there are many respectable Palestinian citizens who only want to live peacefully alongside the Jewish people, but until their government stops trying to destroy the country, it's not going to happen. Israel is willing to make concessions. The Palestinian government is not. This debate goes deep into ancient history, but even if you research information about the problem from the past century, you'll find that the Jews haven't done as much wrong as people think they have. Most of the land of Israel was given to the Palestinian people, who in turn sold large portions of it to many of the Jewish people who were in need of a place to live. In fact, they were selling so much of it that their government made it illegal to sell it to people of Jewish persuasion! The Jews resettled their country perfectly legally, being reborn as a nation in 1948, and now the people who sold it to them want it back. There is much more history behind this, but I'm not going any deeper into it on a Coldplay forum, of all places! Overall, I'm very disappointed in Coldplay's move to support this Palestinian movement, and I hope, if anything, they just did it for publicity's sake, rather than from their own convictions. If the Palestinians want their land back, they need to cease-fire and make concessions. Biblically speaking, they'll get some land, but not for long. The peace they are after is only an illusion.
