[4-June-2011] Coldplay @ Rock am Ring: Nürburgring, Germany (Live Stream links in 1st post)
YAY. I'm not as convinced about Hurts Like Heaven (or "MX"?) as some people, though.

Okay, let's do this. Webcast has my full attention from here on-out.

[4-June-2011] Coldplay @ Rock am Ring: Nürburgring, Germany (Live Stream links in 1st post)
And now we play the waiting game. Been a long freaking time since I've followed any sort of live Coldplay updates.

Lyrics (page 2 onwards)
In spite of this being a blatant pop effort, I actually like this song. Reminds me of the pop tracks on Prospekt's March, which I sort of enjoyed. Further proof that you still can pull off a pop song without it sucking, which in turn is proof that strong critics of ETIAW - like myself - aren't hating it "just because it's pop".

So this is where the cool kids are hanging out today? I hope so, because I canceled my lunch plans to sit home and watch this. So thanks to Coldplay, I have no social life. Buncha jerks.

Every teardrop is just a teardrop
Corkus replied to A Famous Old Painter's topic in Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall (Single, EP & video)I communicate with whoever runs that account also, and we had a brief exchange over it this morning. While he doesn't seem to be the biggest fan of Coldplay, he does understand that a lot of people who ARE fans seem to be let down by this new song.

I really love this community, but I think I'm gonna take a break untill the hating has stopped.
The hating won't stop. As many bands progress through their careers, fan opinion of albums becomes more divisive. This isn't always because of drop in quality (though I believe it is in Coldplay's case), but with more albums, you're gonna have more varied opinions. I'm being serious here (as opposed to basically every other post I've made here in the last 24 hours). Some people here hate X&Y. Some people here hate Viva. And I'm sure there's people who even have issues with Parachutes and AROBTTH (though we call these people "nimrods" :P). Deal with it.

New Coldplay eh?
I watched this one, Cartoon Heart, and Hurts Like Heaven. Not really sold on HLH right now but it's better than ETIAW. But so is the sound of kittens burning. Thanks for setting the bar so low with that one, Coldplay. This one and Cartoon Heart are refreshingly decent. I hope this track ("Us Against the World"? I can't keep track of these awful names.) remains acoustic on the album. I know Coldplay sometimes strips down certain songs for live shows. Still think I'll get a much better impression with today's webcast. I'm over the shock of Every Teardrop now (though not looking forward to "rocking out" to it live). Let's move forward, for better or worse (can it get worse?) :)

2011 Live Shows in Online
For as much as I despise ETIAW, I've actually rescheduled my plans for today so I could watch the webcast. I refuse to watch videos that have surfaced so far of other new songs since quality is low, but this should give us some much better footage. Excited to watch the old songs, too. I'm still not convinced that yesterday's setlist is accurate. Seemed like nobody had a grip on it.

New Coldplay eh?
Tried watching one or two of the videos. Was too difficult to decipher. Gonna wait for the Rock am Ring webcast to get better quality footage and get a better idea of the other new tracks.

[5-Aug-2011] Coldplay @ Lollapalooza Festival, Chicago
June 7th is the schedule reveal also. This is extremely important for me. When it comes to Coldplay day in particular, I need to know how many other bands I'm interested in seeing on different stages. If there's not many later on, I can chill at the main stage and inch my way forward steadily. But chances are I'm not gonna wait it out on barrier all day. (especially if I'm already doing that another day) I want to be as close as possible, but not at the sacrifice of missing all these other great festival acts.

Isn't the new song a great summer song?
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGNgcRwKW4Q]YouTube - Joe Satriani - Summer Song (Live 2006)[/ame] Fucking dammit, Coldplay. Ripping off Joe Satriani AGAIN!?!?!?

The Positive ETIAW Thread
BAHAHAHAHAHAHA Funny thing is, a lot of Coldplayers on this forum really do look into things so deeply like anagrams as "album clues". And we know how deep Coldplay is, right?

The Positive ETIAW Thread
Eggnog Tequila Iced Absinthe Wine is amazing. I don't see how anyone can bash it. Knocks you out so quickly you might not even wake up. Wait, ETIAW stands for something else?

What song is better? Every Teardrop is a Waterfall or Friday?
Friday talks about Friday. Every Teardrop talks about Monday morning. Friday > Monday

Cults - new band from New York
I saw Cults at Coachella this year merely by chance. I had no idea who they were or that they've been generating buzz in the indie world with their first single. But nobody I was truly interested in seeing was playing at that time of day, so I decided to catch a random act. That act was Cults, and they were awesome. I'm now hooked and am encouraging everyone to check them out.

Every Beer Can Is a Brewery
I totally set myself up for this trap, didn't I?:facepalm: Nobody wants to hear me sing.

New Coldplay eh?
"LOLdplay" or "Soldplay"? I can't decide. Also, I totally just trolled the ETIAW forum. :P

[3-June-2011] Rock im Park: Nürnberg, Germany [possible setlist and first YouTube videos in 1st post
Setlist.fm is probably just stalking this thread and posting what we find. They know no more than us. Let's wait for someone who actually got a physical setlist to post what they played. :) Noticing song order similarity to the holiday shows, BTW. Not surprised.

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
How many Wolstenpoints are Wolstentweets worth? And how much for actually meeting him (something that hasn't happened yet but I hope to have happen by summer's end)? And how many points is this picture I took last year?

New Coldplay eh?
I'm glad you said this, because it's basically the raw form of what I was feeling. Yes, I've dissed the new song several times already, but I haven't gone into detail any of those times. I thought "Christmas Lights" was an okay song. It wasn't fantastic, but it had a lot of successful elements going for it - simplicity in the instruments, good build-up, and vocal variety. Liked it better than half of Viva, which is an album that I repeatedly call "hit-and-miss". Yes, there were songs I disliked, but probably nothing as much as I dislike this. And in spite of "Viva la Vida" (the song) being the poppiest track they've ever done, it was still something I considered to be above the rest of the dreck that made it atop the radio charts. I can't say that here. I defended the songs on Viva that I did and still do enjoy (there's like...4 of them that I think hold up with their best past work), and if LP5 comes out and there's good songs on it, I'll defend those too. I won't be defending ETIAW.

[4-June-2011] Coldplay @ Rock am Ring: Nürburgring, Germany (Live Stream links in 1st post)
^ Awesome. Thanks! :) I know what I'll NOT be doing tomorrow, then. Something productive. :laugh3: EDIT: Crap, just remembered I have lunch with people tomorrow, which would be during when Coldplay would perform. Gonna see if I can postpone until Sunday.

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
You hear that, Muse? If you want us to stop recommending music from other bands to each other, start popping out the babies and touring again. :P Massive emphasis on Transatlanticism. Not only one of the great breakthroughs in indie rock over the last decade, but certainly their best album. Plans and Narrow Stairs are still quite decent (though Narrow Stairs can be divisive). I really dislike the new album, though. Everyone needs to listen to Cults when their debut album is released next week, okay?

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
^ I agree. Coldplay is now banned from this thread. Muse isn't technically banned, but we never talk about them anymore in spite of this being The Muse Thread. So, how about that new Death Cab album? :laugh3:
