Who is Brian Eno???
I love Viva. I really do. But Brian Eno is famous for so, SO much more. Also, new MGMT kinda blows. Sorry. :(

U2
Golly, is it really only 2 more months until I see U2? I've had tickets since November, so this excruciating wait is starting to wind down ever so slowly... I'm curious what types of changes will occur on this leg of the tour, both in regards to visuals and the actual setlist. They've had plenty of time to think of new things. It will be my first time seeing U2, so I guess I shouldn't be picky. Funny thing is, this will be the first concert I go to with my family in like 10 years. I've gone with friends to shows since (though most were to shitty teen pop bands). I obviously opted out of GA Floor seats and instead settled for some pretty respectable assigned seats (respectable given the size of Angel Stadium, anyway). I don't think my step-parents would enjoy being in a pit...

Arcade Fire
No. Everyone hates them. Funeral is the worst-reviewed album of all time. Go listen to Justin Bieber instead. ... In case I failed in conveying that effectively, that was sarcasm. Seriously, buy both of their albums now so I don't have to blindfold you, tie you to a chair, gag your mouth, and lock you in the basement while you listen to them. The former is less painful, but it's your choice. If you like what you hear from 30-second previews, you're in for a treat.

is it only happening to me??
It's official - Coldplay is a rapidly spreading virus and we're all hopelessly infected. It's a bloody epidemic. Effects of the virus include belting out Coldplay songs in public and talking in fake British accents (likewise less embarrassing if you are British). There is no cure at the moment. Coldplay said they were gonna take over the world, and they bloody meant it. Soon the entire world will be infected by the Coldplay virus. (seriously, works fine for me for some reason)

When Did Music Become Real For You?
I'd listened to music for years before I really "understood" it. All those years of Fall Out Boy, Weird Al, and Linkin Park were fun (okay, so I still listen to Weird Al from time to time), but I only listened casually. In fact, very little of this was music that I listened to on my own. That didn't change until my senior year of high school (2006), which is much later than most of you. It's probably cliche to mention on a Coldplay forum, but it really was Coldplay that helped change things (it started with X&Y, although discovering AROBTTH was the clincher). From there, I used Coldplay as a "guide" to other artists as Radiohead and U2. Radiohead took a couple more years to appreciate, but U2 was especially accessible given how I'd heard their hits many times before but could now get addicted to them. It's funny how I now regularly criticize the stuff I listened to before music "became real" for me, as if that music somehow isn't real also, but I think there's a real difference between simply listening to music and full-on understanding it. :) Also, on the topic of Radiohead, my calculus teacher had me listen to Hail to the Thief at first and I didn't "get it" (he also had a huge HTTT poster in his classroom). When In Rainbows was released, though, I went backwards in their catalog and finally began to appreciate them. In fact, had I gone forwards, I may never have appreciated them at all.

Random Coldplay thoughts...
Having to deal with crappy American "alternative" stations (I put "alternative" in quotes since half the songs are still pop), I don't ever recall hearing "Trouble" on the radio until today. Needless to say, I had to do a double take when I first heard it, making sure it wasn't just my iPod.

Rate the latest movie you've seen
How to Train Your Dragon - 7/10 I'm generally not anywhere near as big of a Dreamworks fan as I am a Pixar fan, but this was was mostly well-done. It had a lot of predictability and it wasn't really original (lord knows how many times the "goofball rises to the occasion" plot has been used), but it was able to deliver an entertaining story without being overly preachy with its messages. The 3-D obviously wasn't Avatar but you'd be a fool to expect that. Humor was used rarely but was good when used. Definite kids movie, but still worthwhile if you have nothing better to see.

Civil Twilight - No, not a Edward fangirl thread
It's funny; I just heard these guys for the first time today! :stunned: I think the song you posted was decent and the song I heard on the radio (don't remember what it was called) was okay. I don't see myself getting into these guys, but they aren't bad. EDIT: Upon closer listen, the song you posted WAS the song I heard on the radio today.

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
Also note that it's still worth downloading just for the laughs. :laugh3: Should this NOT be some cruel last-minute joke, I hope they also do this for the autumn North American tour. It seems they took some fan criticism seriously. Maybe I'll just vote Guiding Light in every poll just to tick people off. Except that they'll still probably play it anyway, so what's the point. :P Anyway, I voted for your options (because you seem harmless enough), though I'm surprised Showbiz (the song) is doing so well. Maybe people are confusing it with the entire album as a whole, because there are way better songs off that album.

Songs you want on 5th LP
So...uh...with a few exceptions of song snippets we've heard (like Wedding Bells), I take it most people are judging these merely by their name? :inquisitive: While I assume most of these won't make it onto the album, anyway, they certainly won't take songs from past eras, such as Moses, etc. In fact, I'd probably feel ripped off if a studio version of Moses was included on an LP. (if they ever release one, and I doubt they will, it would be through promotion or B-side) Really though, I'm gonna guess that we don't yet know the names to most tracks on LP5. (keep in mind that songs can also go through name changes) That was a real pessimistic post, wasn't it? Sorry about that.

The Hardest Part
The album version is average but probably didn't deserve to be a single. It's also a weak song lyrically. Each band member has expressed that they prefer the piano version, however, and I'd have to agree wholeheartedly. They'll probably ditch it on the next tour, but it was nice to hear the song reworked into a more beautiful fashion.

Elbow
Facebook campaigns/petitions are hilarious(ly pathetic). I fail to see the big deal. It's not "selling out" and it gives the band the exposure that they totally deserve. Yay! :D
