Weight-watching walrus does sit-ups at seaworld Last updated at 11:56am on 10th January 2007 Many of us have new year resolutions to eat more healthily and get fit, and it seems animals are no different. Trainers at SeaWorld in California, have been encouraging their star walrus 'Seehook', to shift the bulge by doing push-ups and sit-ups with his trainer. But will Seehook keep to his new exercise regime, or gobble up shrimp on the sly? More follows... And the walrus isn't the only animal being put through his paces. 'Spinner', a six-year old border collie, is getting aerobic exercise by skipping with his trainer. Meanwhile pigs a…

Only in Hampshire :laugh3: Thief steals urinal from city pub Police are on the hunt for a thief who stole a urinal from a pub in Hampshire. The man is thought to have spent 40 minutes removing the white toilet bowl after ordering half a pint at the Royal Oak pub in Southampton. He then stuffed the urinal in a rucksack and left the pub making sure he wiped his fingerprints off the door as he went. But his exploits were caught on CCTV and after reviewing the tape landlord Alan Dreja handed it over to police. "It's unbelievable," said Mr Dreja, 46, who has been landlord at the Royal Oak in Houndwell Place for two years. 'Professional job' His wi…

Councils admit they want to charge 'pay-as-you-throw tax' to collect rubbish By STEVE DOUGHTY Last updated at 22:37pm on 7th January 2007 Families should be forced to pay for having their rubbish collected, town halls declared. Councils want powers to impose a 'pay as you throw' levy on top of council tax. The Local Government Association says those who dump the most rubbish should pay the most and the scheme would be accompanied by a cut in council tax. In an attempt to win support, it has called the new charges 'save as you throw'. But opposition politicians and council tax protesters were sceptical about the promise of lower council taxes and said …

'Violent video games make children lose self-control' By SARAH HARRIS, Education Correspondent Last updated at 22:00pm on 3rd December 2006 Playing violent video games makes children lose their self-control, a shocking new study has revealed. An analysis of brain activity demonstrates they become more emotionally charged after using the graphic technology. At the same time there is a marked decrease in activity in parts of the brain which are linked to self-control, focus and concentration. The findings will refuel concern about the effects of violent video and computer games on children. Previous studies have shown that such games can '…

Look up any BBC article you want, I dont really care, hes dead, hes been hanged. Just google it or something you must be dull if you havent heard (By tomorow morning at least). Does anyone, really care? I was shocked at first, initially. Actually well no, Im drunk, and didnt feel I was shocked. But I should be shocked, but really, does anyone care? He was dead to us all the moment he went into hiding, as a political figure, we may as well have just seen him as deceased the moment that happened. Whats more important is that the Iraqi's, well, I cant imagine any of them caring, at all. They certainly arent rejoicing, I could hardly imagine that. Yawer is like…

You don't foal anyone pretending to be a dog by ANDREW LEVY Last updated at 10:35am on 8th January 2007 Playtime: When Rory and Millie aren't chasing each other, they are fetching sticks Just like his labrador friends, he wags his tail, fetches sticks and rolls on his back to have his tummy tickled. But the hooves and mane give away his real identity - as a Shetland pony. Eight-week-old Rory picked up his canine traits after he was befriended by dogs at the Essex Horse and Pony Sanctuary in Pitsea. Owner Sue Allery said: "In 18 years I've never seen anything like it. When vets visit us they can't believe it either." Rory w…

The key to happiness? Marriage...and enough sleep By PAUL SIMS Last updated at 22:00pm on 7th January 2007 Married couples are happier than singletons, a Government study has revealed. The survey, which tried to define what gives us a 'sense of wellbeing', also found that a good night's sleep and 'more time spent socialising' are linked to contentment, as is being of average height and weight. And luckily for Britons, it seems most of us can smile through a light drizzle but heavier rainfall can cause depressive symptoms. 'Extreme weather is detrimental to happiness,' the study concludes. Not surprisingly, so too is being dumped, getting the sack and living…

Cricket WAGs facing tour ban after Ashes disaster Last updated at 09:38am on 7th January 2007 Hit and miss: Andrew Flintoff's wife Rachael, right, and Andrew Strauss' wife Ruth Cricket chiefs could bar England players’ families from accompanying them on tour in the wake of the Ashes humiliation. The English Cricket Board (ECB) last night signalled an urgent review of its much-criticised decision to allow wives and girlfriends – known as WAGs – an extended stay on the tour amid suggestions they had become a ‘circus’ distracting the players. At one point, the entourage accompanying the 16 players and 12 backroom staff had swollen to more than 9…

In your opinion. "Jumping the shark is a metaphor that was originally used to denote the tipping point at which a TV series is deemed to have passed its peak, or has introduced plot twists that are illogical in terms of everything that has preceded them." So what TV shows do you think "jumped the shark"?

Don't get comfortable, there's snow on the way Last updated at 13:24pm on 3rd January 2007 Pedestrians cross the Millennium Bridge as heavy snow falls and sunbathers enjoy summer in Green Park Snow and severe cold weather could hit Britain within weeks, the Met Office has warned. Forecasters said that while temperatures this winter have been mild on average, some freezing weather is expected. Campaign: Zoo animals facing slaughter...thanks to the EU Join the Mail On Sunday's urgent crisis appeal By DANIEL BOFFEY Last updated at 21:22pm on 6th January 2007 In cages measuring 5ft by 14ft, bears lumber aimlessly in seemingly endless circles around putrid pools of their own excrement. Pacing the perimeter of his small enclosure for hours on end, the bedraggled tiger barely notices the taunts of zoo visitors trying to make him snarl. Nearby a lion peers out of a dark, dank hut in his pen to catch a brief glimpse of the winter sun that reaches his enclosure for a few short hours every day. And, in cages measuring 5ft by 14ft, three bear…

I really want the audio only of this concert on my iPod. My dad knows people who can unlock DVD's for burning, and so they did this for my Coldplay DVD. I copied all of the files to my hard drive, but I'm sort of lost on the filetypes. This is a list of types that I see: .IFO .VOB .BUP So, I was wondering what type of file the audio for the concert would be in, and how to go about extracting the audio from those files and converting them to MP3, M4A, etc.

420mph... in a taxi? If only our local taxi firm could achieve the speeds that Welsh cabbie Tom Matthews has been accused of. Matthews was fined £60 and given three penalty points for winding up his 12-year-old Vauxhall Cavalier to... 420mph. The incident was recorded by a speed camera. "There has been a printing error," said Matthews. "If they insist I was going that fast, I should be a Grand Prix driver." The Mid & South Wales Safety Camera Partnership has apologised and blamed 'employee error'. http://www.topgear.com/content/news/stories/1477/

Terror's Trivial When It's Not Muslims Madrid Airport bombing receives scant attention Thursday, January 4, 2007 How many people who aren't news junkies know that Madrid Airport was bombed on Saturday? Relatively few I would venture, and that's because major western governments and their media mouthpieces don't hype terror unless Muslims are behind it. I personally only caught the story a couple of days after it happened on an obscure channel on UK digital satellite called Euro News. Operatives of the Basque separatist organization ETA packed 800kg of explosives in a car bomb that ripped apart the parking lot of Barajas Madrid Airport, killing two and injuring …

'If you move, Sir, one of us is going to die' Last updated at 23:06pm on 3rd January 2007 Bravery: Wesley Autrey with daughters Syshe and Shaqui When he saw a man fall into the path of a New York subway train, Wesley Autrey did not hesitate. The 50-year-old building worker jumped down on to the track and tried desperately to haul him to safety. But the man, who had suffered a seizure, struggled. And as certain death roared towards them, Mr Autrey made a decision of breathtaking courage. Instead of saving himself, he pushed the man down into the space between the tracks and lay on top of him, wrapping his arms and legs tightly around him. …
