U2

I saw them last night in Tampa. It was the best concert I've ever been to. Great, great show. Loved the lights. It was basically the same as the dvd. Started with city of blinding lights. I was on the third level behind the stage, but it was still awesome. So worth it.

yo clockpolitiks...was at the show last night as well....loved the lights and the drop down screen effects..hopefully coldplay will kinda incorporate that too..hope to see them both in orlando and tampa!

After the recent Coldplay-scepade with this presale bullshit, I've really come to appreciate how U2 treats their fans. Not just how personable they are when you meet them, blah blah, but the amount of things they do for us. I think it's easy to forget and take advantage of it. I know that they went through some problems with their presale, but still... It's nothing compared to this.

Scalpers sign up so many emails and Coldplay made this WAY too easy for them. Think about it, if they just had had a 40 dollar membership it would have cut down this problem considerably. Scalpers would have to PAY to get at the tickets that are rightfully ours, and they lose money. I know most of the fans who went for the U2.com presale (I didn't, since I wasn't a member at the time  ) got GA, and I hardly see ANY scalped GA tickets floating around. Not compared to what's happening with Coldplay.

I think that CP is becoming too big for their management to handle. And I hate to say it, and it makes me sick to say it, but I wish Coldplay would be more like U2. It'd be great if they played the larger venues (hey, if they can sell out 2 nights in MSG...) and had a large GA floor. GA is the fairest way to go, honestly, at least for us major fans. Maybe have a nice catwalk, some pretty string lights... Chris in sunglasses... Jonny in a beanie.. LMFAO JK!

Sure, I'm rambling, but this presale shits just pissed me off. I'm going to get cheap tickets during the general sale on Saturday and I can't help but think "Well, that leaves more money to see U2, then!" :uhoh:

Can't wait to see them tuesday night in NYC! :D

The DVD is out now? hm, I might have to check that out.

^you must be getting really excited!!!!

Cool man. Yea i loved the light show. It was so cool. U2 is definitely the best act in rock today. Coldplay is a close second.

Shit. I just finished watching the DVD. (yes, I'm so fucking obsessed with U2 I went right after school, came home, took a shower, got in my pajamas and jumped in bed with the DVD   )

If you don't have this... oh man. I'm sorry, really. Because you're missing something.

I wasn't a fan of Vertigo until I heard it live. Now that's some fucking rock 'n roll music.

I do like Native Son a lot better than Vertigo, though. That song's just fun to dance to.

all i have to say about the DVD: :stunned:

im so sad...u2 was here on wednesday...i just watched the dvd...im sooooooooo depressedZ! :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry:

I really enjoy the documentary on the second disc. Love those GA people.

I'm psyched! Only 15 (or 14?) days until my "U2 Week Extravagenza" which is basically me moving to Boston for 3 days and seeing U2 on 2 of them. :stunned:  Nice cap off to the year, I think.

^you must be getting really excited!!!!

Sure am, I don't think I'm going to be able to sleep the night before hah. :P

I went to a concert of U2, the one who was in Barcelona this summer in the Camp Nou, it was the best concert I ever been! But of course I haven't been to a Coldplay concert ejejjeje :P

went to the U2 concert on saturday...it was very cool. they didnt play 40 though i was looking forward to it, it was still cool anyhow.

^What'd they close with instead? That's weird, I thought that '40' was the deadset closer on this leg.

Hey all, I'm just wondering:

What is that song that's on that one commercial for some video phone where The Edge is playing the piano?

You mean the video ipod?

The song's 'Original Of The Species', off How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. The footage was shot in Chicago and is on their latest DVD.

No problem! I know what you mean, technology is so friggin' out of control lately that I can't tell the ipods from the phones from the laptops!

Wow what an awesome show. They even played Instant Karma! Wow, amazing. Still speechless and my ears are still ringing! Does anyone know the name of the song played before U2 came out?

Instant Karma? Oh my god I want an mp3 of that.... *dies*

The song they play leading into City of Blinding Lights is 'Wake Up', by The Arcade Fire. It's off their album Funeral, that came out last year. Really, REALLY great new band, the album's amazing. Worth checking out. A wonderful crowd lifting song too, to signal to everyone that the show's about to kick off.

Glad you had a great time (I'm so jealous! I'm only 3 hours away, I want to be in NYC! :P )

By the way, something that all U2 fans should get involved in (and indeed, anyone, that's why I put it in my sig).

Edge has become the "face of", and founder, of a new charity sort of organization called "Music Rising". The link is in my sig and if you visit it will explain everything. You can make donations and they're even offering a limited edition Les Paul.

Just thought I'd share that here, since it's good to see Edge involved in something like this, showing that U2 isn't all about Bono and HIS good causes. Not that it's a surprise that they care, or anything.

Hm, I didn't know that was Arcade Fire. Great song, must have it.

Yeah the Edge mentioned something about that last night after they sang One. Then they played some southern, Louisianna song (I forget what it was called).

You mean the video ipod?

The song's 'Original Of The Species', off How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. The footage was shot in Chicago and is on their latest DVD.

I dont like that version. The ony they played in Tampa was with the full band and the guitars, and it was one of the best of the concert. It was really awesome. The piano version on the dvd is somewhat weak. Oh and the song wake up from the arcade fire was awesome. It kind of had that irish feel to it, and it set an awesome mood. I immediately checked out the arcade fire after that.

I want to hear that other version. Original is one of my favorite songs off the album, for personal reasons, but the version on the DVD is a bit dull, I've got to agree. Plus I had downloaded the whole performance probably a month in advance off itunes, so I tend to skip it now on the DVD   I have such ADD sometimes!

Yeah, I got into the Arcade Fire after my concert way back in May. I had downloaded Wake Up before the show, by U2 fan word of mouth ( or whatever!) and went and got the album. I love Haiti and Rebellion (Lies). I wish I could see them open in Toronto.

Wow so I need to come here more often. I keep falling off the face of this board.

I've watched the DVD three times since I've gotten it. The only part that bugs me is the part in zoo station where you hear Edge's voice, and it's a close up of edge, but he isn't singing. Hamish, you need some better editing skills my friend.

Otherwise, it's insanely good. My best buy didn't have the deluxe version, so I just bought the regular. For christmas I'm crossing my fingers for the deluxe version offline.

Yay for edge doing the music rising thing. I love the picture in your sig, where'd you get it? i surprisingly haven't seen it.

If I went to a concert and they played instant karma as the closer, i'd be a bit dissapointed. I really can't think of a better song than "40" to close..it's like...perfect. I mean, Edge on bass and Adam on guitar and Larry and his drums? That's perfect.

It is a really awesome DVD though, isn't it? Some of the editing is a little messy, but overall I love it. Maybe since I keep having flashbacks to my concert while watching it! The deluxe is fun, I love the documentary because it focuses on the fans perspective, and that's cool. I just wish it were longer. The video for SYCMIOYO is kind of cool, just Bono walking on the street singing along. It actually made me cry, he seemed so into it...

Is where all the pictures are. I love seeing him involved in something like this.

Instant Karma was the closer? Oy, I didn't know that. I just thought they threw it in at the end of a song. Like at my show at the end of Beautiful Day Bono went into Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, which was GREAT! '40' really is THE perfect closer, though, and I don't think any other song could do justice to ending a U2 show.

I'm actually a U2 Fan since the age of 10. My favourite Album is War. My favo' song is The Unforgettable Fire and I think I heard nothing but U2 throughout my youth.

I know every single song, I know the best completely out of the back of my head, know every lyrics of those songs, know the details and still I think I'm not the maximum U2 Fan.

U2 inspired me. It's music that inspires me. And now, I'm listenening a lot to Coldplay. I thank god for Coldplay because, in my opinion, it's better to be a damn ultra fan of 2 bands than of one, or else you might encounter the day that you don't like anything at all. Balance, that's what it's all about.

And yes, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb is one of the best. War, is, in my opionion, their best.
