Yeah, I followed a path similar to yours. I am a big fan of VLV and MX (the "midplay" era, ahah) and when I discovered that Coldplay mentioned several times AF as an influence during that period, I st

Arcade Fire reveal meaning behind 'The Suburbs' album title

May 27, NME

Arcade Fire have revealed the meaning behind the title of their forthcoming new album 'The Suburbs'.

Band members Will and Win Butler spoke on US radio station NPR Music today (May 27), saying that the title for the album, out August 2, was inspired by their upbringing in Houston.

"Will and I were born in a really small town in California, on the Nevada border," Win explained. "Maybe 50 people on the side of a mountain. We moved to the suburbs of Houston when we were young. Being a very young child, it's like going to Mars or something. The blast of hot air when you get off the plane at Houston. Just trying to talk about some of the feeling [on the album]."

He added: "A lot of my heroes from Bob Dylan to Joe Strummer were suburban kids who had to pretend they were train-hoppers their whole lives. Talking about an experience and not make-believe [is what we're doing on 'The Suburbs']."

Speaking about the music on the album, Will said that there were, "Two poles of the album, maybe have a rock'n'roll thing, then more electronics. The album lies between these extremes."

Arcade Fire released a double A-side single, 'The Suburbs'/'Month Of May', on 12-inch vinyl today (May 27).

Electronics?

lol you already have the album cover as avatar and you don't even know if it's a good album or not

i emailed the music director of triple j (the guys who said neither song is on the album) last night and he confirmed that the songs are on the album and doesnt know how people on the internet got the impression that triple j were claiming that they had said neither songs appeared on the album. anyways thats the past.

the band has given us two very different songs, month of may and and the suburbs both of which are obviously going to appear on the album. but where in the album do we think they will end up.

the suburbs seems to be a good late album track whereas month of may is the type of track you throw in between two big anthems, its got that sort of intermediary type sound.

I dunno. I'd say The Suburbs would fit nicely mid-LP between 2 fast tracks. Month of may could really be anywhere.

im not a big fan of albums that change pace constantly. i prefer my albums to go through phases of moods and tempos. and arcade fire being an album album band (as opposed to singles band in case wtf im talking about) i think the tracklisting plays a big part in how much i enjoy the album. actually its part of the reason why i love neon bible more than funeral, they did a better job with track order.

Dang, that sucks. Where you going?

Greece

my father's having his 50th Bday there

I think Month of May will be fantastic live. Sweaty Win Butler yelling out those lyrics? Partay!

It IS a crime to get excited over an album of one of your favourite bands, I know.

I think you may have misunderstood me. I was questioning what people thought of there being electronic sounds in the album, not me stating disaproval in the use of electronics.

I have the album cover as my avatar for several reasons. Firstly because I love the artwork. Secondly, because I love this band. And thirdly, because I have been needing a new avatar for a while now and it seemed suitable. I also have no doubt that I will enjoy this album in one form or the other.

I hope that clears up any confusion that you may of experience from my post.

As for track placing, I believe Month of May will probably be around the middle or the album, between two faster paced songs. The suburbs I think would be good at the start or towards the closing of the album. I do agree that Month of May would sound great live. And for the record, I do enjoy the suburbs a lot more than month of may it i have a feeling that it grow on me.

Is there any chance we get to here a new song or something? Jesus Christ August 2nd is too far!

That would be great. :wacky:

So far, I like Suburbs better than Month of May, but I think I need to see MoM performed live before I can fully appreciate it. The shouting is gonna be amazing. :D

Since it seems like they're about to release their next album, I was wondering which one was your fav so far?

I love Funeral and I'm just getting into Neon Bible, and even if it's brilliant I think I like the first one better :nice:

I absolutely love both but I have a preference for Funeral too ! It has more powerful tracks than Neon Bible IMO ("Rebellion (Lies)", "Neighborhood #1" or "Wake Up" => Can't beat those three!).

I don't think I can split the difference between the two, they both have so much going for them.

This!

I love when they speak french in their songs
