One Thing that Highlighted Live8 for me...

Featured Replies

The extreme difference between the quality of live performances before the 80's...

I mean, new bands like Maroon 5 or Coldplay sounded pretty good, y'know, it was of very good quality of new bands. Or you look at Motley Crue, who sounded dirt awful today.

But then you look at Pink Floyds note perfect performance (Apart from Wish You Were Here which was still excellent) as well as The Who, who also could've been in the recording studio for their performance, which was excellent. Seriously now, the only thing seperating the sound quality of these performances from the produced albums they appeared on, was the sound of the crowd in the background. The same rule applies if you compare Neil Young (Perfection) with that Matchbox guy (Pretty good).

I was astonished by The Who's performance, and Pink Floyd were just almost as good. Bands from this era knew their songs inside out, and could play them backwards, even if they were a hell of a lot more egotistical (I know you all love Coldplay for being down to earth well  ), they had a reason to be.

My favourite band since the 80's (The day the music died) is Radiohead, and live, are brilliant, I've seen them, still yet do not manage to be half as impressive as oldie bands.

Damn the Who were great..

My highlight was watching Ashcroft and Coldplay onstage.. that was mega!! .... and Kanye West performing Diamonds.... :stunned: Jay-Z and Linkin Park was pretty good.. Madonna was impressive.. I have to admit.. I cried when she first came out... that story with the little sick girl who is an adult now.. that was so touching!!!

I am glad I got to see some of the acts... this is history, history in the making.. and I hope we can finally do something about this famine..

No-one came near Pink Floyd. The end

Why was that?? Had they been eating garlic beforehand?? :P

my highlight (only watched the UK one) was Keane ... i think they were great and did excellently and they were shit scared before lol .... :D

i just can't get into music like Pink Floyd and The Who ... before my time

I hate Keane, but they did put on a pretty good performance, the best of all the new-ish bands that took stage yesterday.

Nobody's agreed with me on how great the Who were yesterday, it was UNREAL in sound quality as well as the fact they were hopping around like teenagers the whole time.

As for solo performers, Kanye West, Stevie Wonder and Robbie Williams were fantastic (As well as aforementioned Neil Young who was the BEST of all these).

Pink Floyd were amazing, I always wondered what Comfortably Numb would be like live, and it was perfect.

Two words:

PINK FLOYD !

same here.

and first sting song (message in a bottle) it sounded like the police.

but another thing that highlight it was big ausences...

why wheren't there people like peter gabriel? i think he use to support aid to africa. :idea2: i think he didn't play.. and also it'll be cool if coldplay will played with kraftwerk, you see Champion wear a t-shirt of radioaktivite by kraftwek. :idea2:

i meant my fave perfom were pink floyd's, but i also liked a part from coldplay too, sting, and he sang 3 songs: message in a bottle, driven to tears and every breath you take. i liked most the first song he sang, because it sounded like the police. :)

Oops! For some reason I didnt see the word STING in "first sting song" woooah sorry

ok, no problem ;)

the music legends like Pink Floyd, The Who, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, etc were by far the best performances. It shows how much more talented they are compared to the bands now, except coldplay of course.

I also liked Bono's short rendition of Unchained Melody..it's a cheesy song, but he sang it beautifully.

I dont think Coldplay are an exception. They are a new band and had their faults, one of the better performances in London but they were NOTHING in comparison with Floyd and The Who.

Paul McCartney wasnt amazingly fantastic or anything, I enjoyed Helter Skelter the most.

You should be grateful he didn't do "Hope of Deliverance"!! :P

dammit.. I missed Pink Floyd.. :embarrased:

Keane I have to admit, I missed as well, but seeing them live is amazing!!! Tom's voice transcends and just flows!! I fell in love with his voice.. very attractive voice he has.. too bad it doesnt match his looks. :embarrased:

Kanye and Stevie were good.

Pity the Beeb didn't show us more Dave Matthews Band

The Dave Matthews Band weren't that great, in my opinion. That's when I started to get agitated, bored, and claustrophobic. Luckily a big group of people left after they finished.

As far as the Pink Floyd thing is concerned, I'm less inclined to make a big deal out it as everybody else is at this point... put Syd Barrett on that stage with them and THEN I'll be REALLY impressed. :P

Reilly, i wasn't comparing Coldplay to Pink Floyd and The Who. That would be like comparing apples and oranges. Bad wording of the sentence. my mistake.

BUT, if you did have to compare one of the newer bands with the likes of Pink Floyd, it would definitely be Coldplay. (When i say this, i don't mean the music, but the talent)
