just listened to them and i know ive only had one listen but not sure if world turned upside down lives up to normal high standard of coldplay b sides. never realy been that big a fan of pour me either but the best thing about this version is chris' screaming right at the end that was cool. probably would have preferred a studio version tho.

THEY SUCK. poor me has no right being included without a revamping. the screams at the end are wincingly bad. The World Turned starts out pretty cool but the beat is lame and the chorus is forgettable if not incredibly dissapointing. the song is coldplay at their worst: tired lyrical themes and dried up musical ideas.

 

the Fix You pair will go down as the worst coldplay b-sides ever. lamer still, quality this low on single 2 means A) crappy future X&Y b-sides, B) X&Y session show a trend towards their worst songs to date. Coldplay still have good songs left in em, absolutly. but beware of inceasing amounts of bad apples on future albums.

yea, not to be a Coldplay-hater...but these B-sides werent really that good. Nothing close to some of the ones we got on AROBTTH singles.

I second that twistedlogic. These songs are God-Awful. How can they put out b-sides like Careful Where You Stand, Murder, and One I Love, and then follow up with pure SHIT like these new b-sides. I'm stunned they actually released this garbage. God I hope Coldplay gets back in the studio and returns to form. I'm done with all things X&Y.

I like them. Pour Me isn't my favorite but then again it never has been. The only thing about The World Turned is that is too similar to other songs on X&Y. It has SoS moments and Twisted Logic and X&Y and Things I Don't Understand moments. Too much stepping on songs, but I can still enjoy it. Really glad it's not on the album and it's a bside.

So I shouldn't bother buying the single then. I have a version of Poor Me which is ok.

not sure about The World Turned Upside Down yet ... haven't quite decided what i think of it but i like Pour Me ... it sounds good :D

Pour Me really wasn't that bad.....until the screaming. Ahhh, it grates on my nerves when I hear it!!

I don't consider "The World Turned Upside Down" to be the song with that title. I can't even hear much similarity in the way the "old" and "new" versions are played. I prefer to think of this song as "Everything Under the Sun."

 

With that in mind, it's becoming a catchy song, one that I'm starting to like more as I listen to it (only listened twice so far).

 

I really wanted a studio version of Poor Me (to include in my "extend" version of X&Y, but oh well.

 

Unfortunatley, I think the band has played the song better than at the hollywood bowl. IIRC, some of the versions from February and March were better, when Chris actually sang the verse (at least the opening one).

 

They're not terrible, but they're not great.

I liked the Mexico City version of Pour Me with the massive keyboard solo. That would have sounded unbelievable in studio.

Both are quality b sides. I like poor me a little better though. As for the loon who is going off the deep end...get a grip buddy. Coldplay changed their style a bit for this album, some people like it, some don't. They have never displayed "dried up musical ideas."

They're fine. The World Turned is obviously a totally different song.. thats fine.. but I prefer.. PREFER.. the other version. I never found pour/poor me to be that good.. felt really dry.

I have to say, I agree with you. I think it's a case of being lazy with their choices for b-sides this time around. They've set such a high standard with their previous ones but these are very disappointing.

The video saves them on this occasion... just.

They're both a ton of crap. World Turned Upside Down is forgettable, boring and just altogethor one of the least original and exciting songs Coldplay has ever written, and Pour Me has those awful screams at the end which are way too loud (which brings me to my next point) and the mix sucks. Whoever mixed this should be fired.
