They usually start around 12 UK-time I think so maybe we'll know for sure around 1. Oh, nerves! I'll have to run down to the computers during lunch I guess..

 

God, he posted a couple of days ago at FDB but didn't sound to optimistic :\ I think keeping him in the Priory for a couple of more weeks is the best although then they'd have to cancel tourdates but hum.. maybe they could do something like at GetLoaded, someone that watches him and makes sure people like the General and Purple keep out..

But I'll be happy with anything that keeps him out of jail.

Doherty drug sentencing deferred

 

Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty has had his sentencing on several counts of possession of drugs deferred by a judge at Thames Magistrates' Court.

Doherty was told his sentence will now be decided on 4 December, to give him more time in a rehabilitation clinic.

 

The star pleaded guilty in August to the possession of drugs, which included heroin and crack cocaine.

 

He was arrested in April, just hours after receiving a community order for previous drug offences.

 

Sentencing options

 

The 27-year-old, of Haggerston in east London, is currently undergoing treatment for drug addiction at the Priory clinic in Southgate, north London.

 

But he told the BBC that he "can't afford" to continue staying at the clinic.

 

The judge, Jane McIvor, told the singer that if he remains drug-free he will be able to avoid a custodial sentence.

 

She also noted that he had tested negative for heroin in two tests last month and also passed a check for cocaine.

 

"I obviously want my life back really," Doherty said outside court.

 

In all, he has pleaded guilty to five charges of possessing heroin, cocaine - some of which was crack cocaine - and cannabis.

 

He has also admitted to one count of possession on 7 August, when he was found with a crack pipe and a small amount of crack cocaine.

 

His solicitor Sean Curran has said that Doherty had been clearing the substances out of his car when arrested on 20 April, and had "forgotten" about the crack pipe when arrested on 7 August.

 

I know I shouldn't complain and stuff but can't they fucking decide right away! All this waiting is gonna make me nervous :(

Yeah he definatley looks clean to me too. He looks like he might have put on a bit of weight - don't people usually put on weight when they kick an addiction...like when people stop smoking they usually eat a bit more?

I guess that's a good sign :)

Rock star Pete Doherty avoided jail again today after a judge said she was 'impressed' with his attempts to come off drugs - and also with one of his songs.

The Babyshambles frontman was told at Thames Magistrates' Court, east London, that sending him to prison would be 'counterproductive' as he continues rehabilitation at a London clinic.

Doherty pleaded guilty last month to five counts on possessing heroin, cocaine - of which some was crack cocaine - and cannabis.

Four of the counts relate to a date in April when he was arrested by police just hours after being sentenced to a two-year community order for previous drug offences.

Doherty, 27, who lives in Haggerston, east London, was also arrested on August 7 and found with a crack pipe and a small amount of crack cocaine.

District Judge Jane McIvor described the fact that Doherty had been caught with illegal drugs as a 'deliberate flouting' of his drug treatment order.

But deciding against a custodial sentence, she said: "At this stage it would be counterproductive and simply take you away from society for a matter of weeks and would undo the hard work that a lot of professionals have put in."

Referring to recent negative drug tests that Doherty had given, she said: "What I am impressed by is the negative results, both for heroin on August 21 and August 30, and both heroin and cocaine on August 27.

"That is a significant stage that I never thought you would ever reach."

The judge went on to defer sentencing until December 4, but asked Doherty to return to the courts in October for a review of his drug treatment order.

She then told Doherty, wearing a black suit and carrying a mostly startled expression on his face, that she was impressed with one of his new songs, The Blinding.

She said: "The Blinding is very good, but I'm not sure about the words."

The song includes the following lyrics:

"Come on and see the blinding its the blinding, it’s the last thing that you’ll ever see, wish you might be happy oh happier, than you’ve ever been, so let me show the blinding, last thing you’ll ever see...".
