April 7, 200818 yr REM's Accelerate races to the top REM will play in London, Cardiff, Manchester and Southampton this year REM's first album for four years has shot to the top of the UK chart. Accelerate replaced Duffy's Rockferry at number one in the album chart. It is their first studio album since 2004's Around The Sun. Michael Stipe, Peter Buck and Mike Mills recently announced a stadium tour of England and Wales in August. Estelle, who stays on top of the singles chart with American Boy, saw her album Shine become the second highest new entry, at number six. James Blunt returned to the top 10 albums with All The Lost Souls rising 10 places to number eight, while Michael Jackson's Thriller 25 compilation rose five places to number nine. Gnarls Barkley's The Odd Couple was the only other new entry in the top 20, making its debut at number 19. In the singles chart, Flo Rida stayed at number two with Low, but Kooks had a new Top 40 entry with Always Where I Need To Be at number three. Mariah Carey's Touch My Body was another new entry, at number six. The same track became her 18th US number one last week, meaning she has now had more American chart-toppers than any other act except the Beatles. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7333538.stm
April 7, 200818 yr Local newspapers told its their best album since out of time That's impossible, as Automatic For The People (1992) outshines Out Of Time (1991) :D
April 10, 200818 yr The support acts for the UK shows are: Editors & Guillemots according to reports so... ...Result :D :dance::dance::dance::hat:
April 10, 200818 yr Although I was hoping for a 3rd support act, however as both bands have past the 2 album mark, their support sets should be longer than average.
April 10, 200818 yr I heard a rem song I quite liked today, I may check out this band now (Happy smily people)
April 12, 200818 yr I've only heard the new album once so far. I don't love it - yet. I'm gonna give it a few more listens and then see how I feel. I love REM and I do think its better than the last couple of albums. :)
April 12, 200818 yr Supernatural Superserious? Did the song started with everybody here lyric? Yes, "Everybody here comes from somewhere". :)
April 13, 200818 yr well i was not asking you,but yes:D That's impossible, as Automatic For The People (1992) outshines Out Of Time (1991) :D I had the same thoughts
May 4, 200818 yr WTF IS WRONG WITH ME????? First off, I prefer Out Of Time to Automatic, but that's just me, and they're both great! I've had Accelerate for about a month now, and FINALLY got around to listening to it NOW!!! WTF is wrong with me?? I've had this golden gem for that long and not listened to it?? Sorry I'm late to the party, but HOLY SH*T! After all these years, they STILL keep evolving! I LOVE!!!!!:D

May 4, 200818 yr Of their I.R.S. years, get Murmur, Lifes Rich Pageant and Document Of their Warner years, get Green, New Adventures In HiFi, Up and Accelerate Not a fan of Reckoning or Fables Of The Reconstruction? (A Lot of people didn't like Fables, but I htought it was one of their best.)
May 4, 200818 yr I always liked Athens Andover, the album without Stipe, but with Bill Berry, Mike Mills and Peter Buck
May 4, 200818 yr WHAT??? I've never heard of it, and I thought I'd heard of everything they did! I used to have a boot of the Hindu Love Goes (Minus Stipe, plus Warren Zevon) that I'd kill to still have.
May 5, 200818 yr It was recorded with Andover's finest (and only) band The Troggs. It all came together when r.e.m covered love is all around
May 6, 200818 yr Author Well, it's great to see this thread is still going - 5 years on :D Lol. Loving the new REM stuff.... Stipe just gets better with age, don't ya'll think?! In my eyes he can do no wrong ...
May 6, 200818 yr Stipe just gets better with age, don't ya'll think?! Weeeeeell, not sure about THAT. But he sure hasn't lost 'it' yet. ;)
May 7, 200818 yr I've been a fan since 83, and although there were a few hitches along the way, REM (and Stipe) do continue to evolve. As he's matured , his lyrics have changed, imo. It used to be that he hated using words like 'I' or 'me' in songs, and he avoided the personal issues, and I love that he's worked them in over the years, but still kept the random aspect of his lyrics.
