i always thought it was like a computerized version of a really eroded and destroyed limestone bust or something, but this makes a lot more sense. back when i wasn't into coldplay and my mom was listening to the album all the time, i remember being pretty weirded out by the cover and thought it was an exploded head.

 

i always wondered if it was one of the guys, though, like on the single covers, but now i know it's not. it doesn't look like them, but i did wonder.
