I call Isreali government actions "terrorism" because I believe that this war isn't about just going after Hizbollah, it's a perfectly crafted pyscological operation in which the criminal elements within the American and UK governments have been instrumental in planning/sustaining.

What Israel wants however is for Hisbollah to stop firing rockets into Israel. And if Hisbollah dont stop then the Israeli's have a right as a soverign nation to defend itself. Hence their response. War creates innocent civillians deaths. Sad but true.

 

I see people are dying in Israel as well but no-ones cares. Why? Because Lebabon is where the media attention is.

i figured what had happenned yesterday would bring the debate back up again here, I dont have time to read all of the replies but this is what i'll say.

 

I think israel is put in a very bad situation, because the only way to insure the end of this war, which is with a terror organization, is by killing the leaders of the organization.

Yesterday i was very very upset about what had happenned. It made me feel like our army are just killing them one by one and it did start to make me wonder. However, i talked with my friend's dad about it- because we all watched the news and started saying that it seems our army is just making one mistake after another. And he said that what they do is check the listings of all properties that are written under hizballa's name and attack them.

That's why we're put in a difficult situation- we dont know where the hizballa ppl are hiding, we only have speculations about their where abouts. And sadly, this is the only way to do it. That's one it was a very specific attack on the one building.

I believe that if the lebanonese ppl were abit more open to what was going on theyd realise that the hizballa are only making their life a living hell by hiding amongst them, and getting them into this war when they dont even have the right shelter to defend themselves. And instead of seeing that, the ppl there attacked the UN building and praised the hizballa. So maybe some eyes need to be opened.

 

Plus, the israeli air force admitted to attacking that building. However it only collpased 7 hours after the attack. That's why ppl say, and i'm not saying this is true but there is room to believe it, that there was an inside attack later that day by the hizballa to get lots of casualties and make the lebanonese ppl to be for this war, and to want the destruction of israel even more. If it seemed to have worked. When i watched the news yesterday all i saw was ppl shouting "Hizballa destoy Tel Aviv".

 

and this is what i think sucks on our side of this story. I think by this war we're just creating the next generation of arabs that hate us... however, i also see them hating us without any wars because they just want us out of here....

Firstly I am sorry if I have upset or offended anyone on here.

However in my defence.... my opinion on the whole affair is based on what I have seen in the news.... nothing else.

I was almost in tears when watching as a experiment both BBC NEWS 24 Vs Sky News... Same story told from a completely different angle... and your understanding and opinion of the stories would have been so different... and all I can say its most likely its News Corp...that could have helped you get the understanding you have got.

Its not you guys faults... its the people in charge... especially the media.... in my book it goes down as the ultimate crime to tell a story as a truth as you see it, even though its all fabricated, exaggerated in order to change others feelings and opinions on the issue

it is true that different news stations present different sides. but how can one be so bouyed by the media? have we forgotten what the media is?

it is a business just like a supermarket or ebay. the buyer has a desire and the business delivers on that desire. news stations and newspapers are there to make money above all else. their stories are delivered for a certain group of people, who want a side of the story. yet many of us find that the media is the sole ocular proof for any current world issue. the fact is thats its just not. hey and i'm not being biased saying this. fox news it marketed to the capitalist, pro globalisation extreme right wing, while other news sources cater for the more left wing. we need to open our eyes more to see the true dynamics of the world however unfortunate it may be.

i say this is done by speaking to those on both sides who are affected and are actually a citizen of that country etc.

Unfortunately.. thats the beauty of the media.. (as a former journalism major) --the media is all about sparkin the intrest of different people to make up their own minds.. there's never going to be 100% truth in a story because its all about perception...

yeah i guess so. we were at a uni today for a biology excursion and once it finished we were able to walk around and explore the uni. one of the guys at my school in the year above me is israeli. and he went up to some of the people who were anti-israel and handing out flyers etc at uni. all he wanted was to talk and the minute he said he was israeli they told him to fuck off. hes anti war too. and they couldn't even talk to him on the issue. rather no opposition or mediation on the issue. it was really poor manners both as it is hypocritical. i just hope not all people are like that. it was really cruel. hes pro democracy and free speech and listens to both sides but when he just went to initiate a conversation he was told to procreate with himslef. just disgusting...

That's the sad thing....people have to realise that it should not be an attack on the people. It's political agenda that is driving this.

 

I was at a big-ish (well, bigger than expected) S.T.W.C public demonstration outside Downing Street on friday afternoon where an Immediate Cease Fire petition was being handed to Government heads. Within the crowd I saw a few "Olmert does not speak for us" banners and some T-Shirts too.....people should understand that there are peace lovers on both sides......but it's just some people are pretty stupid and can't quite grasp this.

 

There were some Hizbollah flags that appeared after everyone had turned up and the chants were in full flow.....it was a bit suspicious as half the people with those flags (there were only about 6 of them) didn't seem to understand who Hizbollah were.

And we think we saw someone (agent provocateurs) sneak down the front and hand them to people who obviously had no clue and started waving them about. Everyone else just over powered them with "cease fire now!" shouting, which actually was started by my friend and I as it WAS a cease fire demo after all.

 

Also, we wanted to get the crowd to move away from the "DOWN, DOWN, ISREAL!!" chants beacuse although it wasn't being said in an 'anti-Isreali' tone, it did sometimes feel as if the thousands of people passing by might be getting the wrong idea. The "down. down, Isreal" chant was really a stab at Olmert so many people chose to focus on that aspect, rather than simply rubbing more dirt into the 'Isreali Peoples' name.
