August 26, 200817 yr I'm not having any limiter on my car!!, and yes I've been caught speeding:embarassed:
September 19, 200817 yr Good thing - My car passed it's MOT with a couple minor potential problems (front tyres are getting worm down and my exhaust is going rusty) Bad thing - I'm poor, car tax of £120 & car insurance of £490 have tied me down, although the £490 I don't have to pay until next month as I put it on my credit card. But all it good
September 19, 200817 yr I have a 2001 Mercury Sable... it's nothing too special, but it has a moonroof, and that's really all I need in a car! :laugh3:
June 30, 200916 yr I'm thinking of getting a car but I'm not sure whether it's worth it or not. Thing is I do travel A LOT on public transport and train connections are quite bad in the UK. I have no idea where to start. Like there seem to be a lot of comparison sites for car insurances but I couldn't find anything helpful when it comes to petrol costs. Any websites I should check out?
June 30, 200916 yr I'm gonna start a new job in a few months. It would take me nearly twice as long to get there if I travel by public transport. I'm just not sure whether I could actually afford a car.
June 30, 200916 yr Oh,how much do you have saved? Cos you don't wanna buy a bomb, and then it gives you no end of problems....
June 30, 200916 yr Hardly anything. I'll hopefully be able to save up during the summer though. How much would be reasonable to spend? I'm also wondering what the situation on insurance etc would be like if you're using someone else's car?
June 30, 200916 yr Well i cannot really say,as i don't know the price of cars and insurance in the UK. ..but i have full insurance and it costs me 300 pounds a year. That's on a car valued at 8000.
June 30, 200916 yr I expected it to be far worse to be honest. Thing is I'd never be able to spend £8000 on a car. I'd be lucky to have £1000.:( I should be better off after I actually started with the job though.
June 30, 200916 yr Over here you can get a good car for 1000 pounds, anything less, and your asking for trouble imo.
June 30, 200916 yr You can get a car for £1000 in the UK, I'm just not sure if it's worth it. I imagine the insurance costs would be extremely high. A lot of things go against me when it comes to insurance anyway. (Young driver living in inner city area). I'm not sure how strict they are when it comes to this though. My boyfriend uses his dad's car all the time for example and his dad lives in the North East...
November 8, 200916 yr Cheap cars are sometimes the best, as if it goes wrong in a serious way you can dump it and pick up another car for a couple hundred quid. A shame the scrappage scheme has taken some of those cars out of the market :( Be careful with insurance fronting (where the policy is in the parents name with the kid as a named driver if the kid uses the car more), as they are picking up on it more often now. One strange thing when i was getting quotes, adding my brother as a named driver decreased the quotes!
