The offical Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Book thread (Spoiler Free)

Featured Replies

As the name of the 7th book is announced as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, it's time to get a thread together about the book, to keep all the 'news' stories etc together.

Ya know, keeps the place tidy.

So I predict a June 2008 release.

Definitions of HOLLOW on the Web:

A hollow is loose name for a valley in the earth. It is commonly used in New England to describe such geographic features. Hollows may be formed by river valleys such as Mansfield Hollow or they may be relatively dry clefts with a notch like characteristic in that they have a height of land and consequent water divide in their bases. A hollow such as this is Boston Hollow.

or it may be about a geography.......

I'm going to need a reading buddy for this one. To have a shoulder to cry on and to comfort me during the frightening parts!:\

It'll be really interesting to see how she picks up the story from the last one.

I still haven't read book 6!!!!! :( I am sooooooo behind! shhhh

Wow...wonder what's Deathly Hollow.

I doublechecked the OED, just so you know where I'm getting this from (yeah, I'm an english student- so what :P :laugh3: ).

A hallows is actually something that is 'hallowed', or holy, often a person or a place.

The name Halloween comes from 'All Hallows Eve', because it's the day before 'All Saints Day'. In this case, hallows means saints.

When someone talks about 'A Hallows' it is usually a reference to some sort of holy place like a shrine, relic, or pagan grove. It's generally a ceremonial place.

A Deathly Hallow like the title refers to would most likely be some sort of a place of ritual sacrifice, I'm guessing. It will be interesting to see how the story uses it.

Cool title, but it certainly sounds worrying. I've really got to read the last few books I haven't gotten to yet sometime. But I've been taking it slow because I don't want it all to end too soon either!

Oh this so makes sense! :D

Get it, the veil between worlds and that veil in the Department of Mysteries in the 5th book?! Oooooooh...so exciting!

And I also heard that it was going to be released 7/7/07...

That would be awesome!

In my newspaper today it said that the book was expected to be published next year...

So it'll be a place similar to that at the end of the GOblet of Fire. The place where the Death Eaters were gathered and they killed the Quidditch boy (my memory's so rubbish I've forgotten his name).

My thinking then, is that the end of the book will see Harry in a fight to the death with Voldemort in the Deathly Hallows.

yay! i hate the movies with a passion, but i like the books. except for the last one. if deathly hallows is like the last one, i will shove the 700 pages of paper up rowling's @$$.

hmmm, halloween? interesting, very interesting...

7/7/07-i know somebody who's going to be married that day! anddddddd the bride's younger sister is a HP freak too, so i wonder how that'll work out. $20 bucks says she'll be reading the book during the wedding mass lol

That's right before the release of the fifth movie!! 5 days to be exact!!

The fifth movie's coming out on 7.15.07

OMG

Barnes and Nobles has these Harry Potter Parties. The night before the book is released all these kids get dressed up and go to that Bookstore and drink butterbeer all night and wait until Midnight to get their books. This may sound lame- but I ALWAYS wanted to go but my parents never let me!!!!

:bigcry:

But do they do that where you guys live???^

^ hehe, I went to those for the last two book releases! I go to Indigo though and it's so fun :P There's many Harry Potter release parties like down at the harbourfront here, there was a a Slytherin party...but I opted out of that cos I'm a Gryffindor girl :wacky:

I had to organise the parties for the last 2 releases!! Absolutely mental both times!! But loads of fun.

Yeah, that's sort of what I'm thinking... hmm...

^Harry or Voldemort!

Actually, the obvious ending would be that one of them dies, but knowing JK Rowling, she's going to twist it some evil creepy strange interesting way.

The entire world will end at the end of the 7th book.

But then people will say it was like the end of Narnia

Possibly, but the Chronicles of Narnia had more religious overtones in them. I don't think Harry Potter has so much biblical reference in there.
