Vampire Weekend sued by cover girl

From FasterLouder:

Remember that cute girl on the cover of Vampire Weekend’s latest album Contra? Well she’s suing the band and photographer for more than $2 million for using the photo without her permission.

The bewildered looking blonde, whose name is Ann Kirsten Kennis, filed a lawsuit in the L.A. County Superior Court on Wednesday. She says that the photo was taken way back in 1983 and she had no idea that it was featured on Vampire Weekend’s album until the band started promoting it last year.

Kennis claims that her signature on the photographic release form was forged, and she blames the band for not verifying the legitimacy of the document.

In an interview with MTV last October, Vampire Weekend talked about their interesting album cover: “We haven’t met her, we don’t know her. We’re not being very specific about it. The picture is from 1983, but the last album cover was from 2006, and they kind of look like they both inhabit the same world. When we saw this image, we just found it very striking. And part of it is the look on her face. It’s not about the color of her hair, or the fact that she’s wearing a Polo shirt. What makes it interesting is her face.”

Instead of filing a lawsuit, maybe she should be grateful that the band thought a photo of her was special enough to go on an album cover? And anyways, the band should not be sued at all. The photographer should be the only one receiving any sort of blame for this. If the signature was indeed forged, it would have been the photographer's doing, not the band's. All the band does is look at a bunch of photos and decide which one they like best. The fact that this person is suing the band is proof that this is likely all just a get rich scheme.

They were actually rather good. Better than when I saw them at ACL 2 years ago. OPener was some lovely bloke from Africa that no one understood a word he said but we all clapped and danced along. He kept trying to get us to sing with him. Uhhhh we don't know your songs or even WTF you are saying.

second opener was Beach House.

VW played about 1:15 and since most of their songs are pretty short and they only have 2 records, they played most of their catalog.
