You can HEAR A Spell A Rebel Yell

Featured Replies

Does anyone else think it's a little strange they released Violet Hill as a single? I don't mean that as a knock against the song, I just think it points to the fact that EMI are on the ropes and they wanted something "safe" to start with and get this record some attention. Maybe I'm wrong.

well this is exactly what i had in mind the album was going to sound like after reading all those reviews... This does sound like some experimentalism.. but violet hill is a completely different thing tho. Really looking forward to hear a spell a rebel yell soon!

Absolutely fantastic song, very very U2. Like a mix of Mothers of the Disappeared and A Sorf of Homecoming.

Coldplay truly are now the heirs to U2 and The Beatles.

that website gets info from thetherealconnection.com

These articles mention how Coldplay is the third band to come and change the world, just like The Beatles and U2 did before them.

very interesting article, especially considering The Bealtes U2 Coldplay are my three favourite bands and I own all their records.

Beautiful.

Thank you very much. Wow, so U2. *sigh* Oh Coldplay... where have you gone.... :shame:

wow. sounds beautiful.

you can totally hear the Eno influence in there.

can't wait to hear more.

WoW! I love the sound! The fusion is brilliant, sounds like theirs some world music influence in there. Coldplay are growing up!

After a few more listens it's growing on me (as much as a 30 second clip can :P)

Can't wait to hear the whole thing.

THAT'S what I was expecting as far as the new Coldplay sound.. Obviously I can't tell much from a clip, but I hear the etherial blending of electronic and organic sounds that Eno is famous for. It has an almost Peter Gabriel sound, imo.

The syncopated drums really work for me too. I love Will SO much! He can bang it out on one song and do gentle work on the next. What drummer!:)

And there's that low Chris vocal that I've been so looking forward too.

I was afraid from the title that it wouldn't be a great song, but it's just like I said about the album...you really can't tell just from a title. I think I'm really going to love this one.

Chris' voice sounded good low_ its the new Coldplay and i like!!!! lol

Viva La Vida is gona b soooo gud.

Listened to it twice and I'm already utterly bored with it. It's the polar opposite of VH - warm, soft, and almost cheerful. Sorry, but give me dark and brooding any day.

My stylistic interpretation: VH owes more to AROBTTH; ASARY owes more to X&Y.

Thank you for saying it, I thought I was insane (at least we'll be two), but Mothers of the disappeared is the first song that came into my mind just as Chris's voice came up

sounds really good! different but good! i'm actually really excited for it now. the beginning part weirdly reminds me of secret garden by bruce springsteen... kinda weird but it does. can't waittt.

after a few more listens... IT'S SOOO U2ish! haha this is weird but i can tell my mom will love this song.....

i also get a Jesus and Mary Chain vibe from this.. and a little tiny pinch of My Bloody Valentine, especially the first 5 seconds.

Tracie used the ethereal and I think that's spot on.

this is beautiful sounding. liked it immediately.

I don't compare artists seriously , i mean i just think wow! great coldplayness but everyone seems to compare bands a lot these days. and so what if they sound similar, it sounds damn good to me!

^not an attack on you bostonsports by the way ;)

at first i didn't know what to expect from violet hill so i can't say im disappointed (not that i was) because no one really knew what direction they were going in. but i'm fully ready so hit me with what you got coldplay! i'll take anything from you guys as a gift :D

I don't like comparisons either, but people need a frame of reference, so I understand the need for them...hell, I've been comparing all week, lol. The comparison to Gabriel is a comment on Eno for me. I was really hoping for some of that world music flavour that Eno, Daniel Lanois and Gabriel crafted together, and it's so nice to hear it.:D
