Fix you would be a great song I think, if it weren't for the lyrics. If it weren't such an 'I love you Gwynnie' song it wouldn't be as cheesy.

I do love the organ though and the end is great. Is a great sing-a-long song.

i think all of their first single is just OK...

their second is the greatest of all..

see? yellow, the scientist and fix you!

First I'd like to defend and say that both Speed Of Sound and Fix You are AMAZING and underrated.

But I agree. The first single never has the habit of being strongest, it's usually 2nd or even 3rd which defines the brilliance of the album. Which is why I'm not worried by Violet Hill. In fact I'm really excited!

In My Place wasnt great. Thinking back its such a bared-boned song, theres that riff that goes on and on and on. Soooo boring. The lyrics on IMP were so uninspiring also. Not good lyrics at all. The drums OK at the beginning but fades away and also gets boring. I totally agree with Sebret on their opinion on In my place.

Shiver wasnt exactly strong either and that was shown in the charts as it only got 37.

BADA BOM

No, they're not. Speed of Sound is clearly trying to be Clocks altered to cater for the 2005 mainstream market and Fix You is another soppy ballad with lyrics that are basically "i hart gwenyth" but with different wording. Both are good MUSICALLY and I do like Speed of Sound for it's catchiness but Fix You is just annoying and overrated.

Oh come on! Like 85% of the true Coldplay fans are like "NOOO FIX YOU IS GOOOOD". Well terribly sorry, it's not. One of their weakest ballads and my least favourite Coldplay song.

.............

My least favourite song is probaly Fix You, I never hear it, I always skip that song.

I regard these songs as the top singles from each album.

Shiver, The Scientist and What If.

I believe that each of these singles show true progression of a great band.

I do not consider Violet Hill as the first single from VLVODAAHF, but more of an introduction to the new sound of Coldplay and taster before the next release, much like the 'leaked' alternative version of Talk.

I hope 42 is the next single.

.............

You wanted to say something? :dozey:

I personally think Speed Of Sound was a terrible song, so crap. Probaly Coldplays worst song along with swallowed in the Sea.

Violet hill on the otherhand has the most amzing bass. Thanks to Guy. He done and excellent job in my opinion. Chris vocals are similar but very diferent, extremley earthy which makes all the difference. Wills Druming is amazing aswell. Johnnys guitar was good but not OTT but also not as crap as people say it is on here when they love his other riffs. Some people are kinda stupid. I really like the sound of VH overall, its fresh and original, reminded me of the 70s 80s which is something they havent done. Chris lyrics are great in my opinion, his best I think, better than the scientist as scientist when you break it down is awfully simple.

So yeah I think VH is te strongest 1st single maybe not as Clocks but that dosent mean its not better than Clocks. I think when Coldplay went out to make a very strong song they were extreme perfectionist making sure every bit is in line but with VH it sounds more rough around the edges, I like that because it gives it an edge to the song.

i agree, but how the hell can you say swollowd in the sea is a crapy song?

Because its .....urmm...er...crappy??

Sorry, its just the way I feel:laugh3: Sorry if you think different, I still respect you for liking the song but some people like some songs and some like other songs! Its just the way it is.

I think it's an okay song, not their best, but the end is definitely beautiful. It could probably have been better-produced... and the lyrics are beautiful imo.

yi know;), im not angry or something, just comfused:confused:;)

VH is a better first single than "In My Place" and "Speed Of Sound" IMO.

I'm a bit in-between on Fix You. I now struggle to listen to it and love it, but I remember when the album first came out and I did what I always do when I buy a new album. I go to my room, turn the lights out, draw the curtains, lie on my bed and put it on all the way through. When Fix You was finished, I got up and had to go sit down for a while. It was absolutely epic. Now it doesn't ring so true.

For me, Speed of Sound was a very weak song. I remember listening to it and not particularly liking it. It's true though; the second singles are the ones people remember. Yellow, Scientist and Fix You would probably be the top 3 most universally popular songs they've released.

hmm, this is actually really hard. in some ways, i really agree with what everyone is saying about speed of sound and it's similarity to clocks and how it was their most AROBTTH song on the album, but i just...can't vote for it. i do think it's underrated, and it was THE thing that made me love coldplay. i think it made a lot of converts besides me too, it sparked a lot of interest in the new album, so...i don't know. and IMP and shiver/yellow...there's no way i can vote for those in any way, but they're also so different from VH that it's hard to compare.

i'm going to have to say VH, but i feel like it's hard to say that about it when it was only released 4 days ago. i'll be able to make a better call once i've heard the whole album, but because everything on the album is supposed to be so varied, i do wonder about it.

Shiver, because the first single should have been Yellow.

Shiver's a great song no doubt but it took me ages to like.

42 votes for speed of sound. Thanks to coldplay I see that number appear in nature multiple times a day.

Strong to Weak:

1. Violet Hill

2. Shiver

3. In my Place

4.SOS

Note however how much more radio play Clocks got in the US compared to their first single.

yeah, i often forget that "clocks" wasn't the first US single. it was played sooo much, especially over here.

i still think clocks is their strongest single overall, though.

Agreed, Clocks is borderline perfect, in my opinion.

I think it's not overproduced at all, you can hear each member of the band individually, which I love. There's a very slight synth in the background that's so subtle, but it really accentuates the piano and gives the song atmosphere. I can listen to different elements of the song every time I hear it.

Speed of Sound pales in comparison.

Totally agree with you

even though i like a few other songs more than clocks, i still think it's their most "perfect" song, in a way, for every reason you mentioned. it's just so...epic and original, yet classic at the same time. it takes some sort of genius to write any coldplay song, but for some reason, clocks strikes me as the most genius. i think it just blows my mind that no one had ever used such a simple and beautiful riff before 2002.

speed of sound is also awesome to me, and it'll always be the song that got me into coldplay, but it doesn't touch clocks.
