Small Reminders/Updates & The Coldplay Messenger (feat. Roadie #42!)

I have to wonder for a moment how it looked to them coming down the field. Imagine that for years, you’d wondered if your favourite band would ever come to your country. Finally the day arrives. You’ve scored a ticket. You’ve lined up since the early hours. You hear the band soundchecking inside. The gates are opened and there’s that rush of excitement as you all surge inwards….

…Only to see your favourite band standing onstage in comedy foam elephant heads and gloves. Just as you try to process this unexpected sight, the elephant-band leg it offstage looking like a frightened Banana Splits and you get shouted at by a nasty man in black shorts, who makes it clear that you are NOT supposed to be seeing this.

I can only wonder whether these folks went back outside thinking that maybe this is what’s always going on behind closed doors in the world of Coldplay. I do hope so.

...The frenzy is suddenly multiplied by the fact that around the stadium, someone has mistakenly decided that it’s ok to open gates to the punters.

Little streams of punters start to gleefully race across the field towards the barriers in front of the stage. People have watched the soundcheck before, it’s no big deal. In fact back in the club days, I remember folks getting invited inside one day in Detroit, cos it was so damn cold outside.

Today though, is very different. What’s going on onstage is definitely not for public viewing.

There’s comical chaos as the band scurry off and Production Manager Wob Roberts strides about on the ramp to the B stage yelling “everybody out! NOW!”. Onstage, the crew are falling about laughing. The jetlag, the general promo-schedule exhaustion, the altitude and the hangovers fuse with the utter bizarre-ness of the situation at hand - and finally everyone is in bits.

Impressively though, the punters heed the booming voice and quickly the field clears.

I personally don't care how 'not for public viewing' the band and crew thought this was, this is completely out of order to the fans. It happened, it wasn't the fans' fault - it should have been dealt with. There's enough rough treatment of fans by security and ticket checkers etc at festivals, without the band's staff getting in on the act too, by ordering them out the arena.

Methinks some of the Coldplay touring staff need to reconnect with how the 'punters' feel, and what they go through. Some of them really do live inside their own little bubble a lot of the time it seems. Without those punters, there would be no Coldplay at all. (Aimed not at the band, but at the crew here.)

Miller is probably dramatising this slightly for starters, not all of what he says in these blogs is as exciting as he makes out. Secondly no-one complained here, at all. In fact I saw no complaints anywhere. The venue probably opened the doors too early and people weren't expecting it so freaked out. They were probably asked nicely to leave so the band could finish up what they were doing.

I've been let into a Coldplay soundcheck and it was amazing and it was Chris' idea. I could list 1001 complaints I have about the band and their management at this point in time, but one thing I could never deny the band's dedication to fans. They are always respectful and generous, always. Even when people camp out at their studio day after day, they're always courteous. No-one else was offended so there's no need to be offended for them.

Eh? I've read no posts about the gig, and assure you I'm not offended for anyone. I'm responding to 42's blog content, with one or two past personal experiences taken into consideration too.

With regards to seeing the soundcheck, we were all queuing outside the stadium gates, and were explicitly told by the security that we were not to make our way through the next checkpoint, which was a set of turnstiles, before word was given. However, the turnstiles had not been locked, and once we got through the gates, quite a lot of people went through into the actual stadium and started running for the golden circle area, which must have been when they saw the soundcheck. They were removed by the security after a few minutes and then made to queue with the rest of us until soundcheck was over, and we were all allowed it. Hope that helps :)

Great Blog, except for the minor Elephant Safari, sounds like they all enjoyed themselves in SA, and maybe they were trying to film that 1 minute for the video before the show started:thinking: I wanna know more about the unicycle:lol:

Queue for Norwich UEA show now full

14 October 2011 5:03 pm

Please don't travel to join the queue

news_line.png

Good evening. Tickets for Coldplay's UEA show for Radio 1 go on sale tomorrow (Saturday) morning and the promoters have been in touch to let us know that the people already in the queue for tomorrow morning's Norwich UEA ticket sale will take up all of the available tickets.

Please don't travel to Norwich to join the queue, as you won't now get a ticket. Apologies to those of you missing out, but the promoters say the demand is "unprecedented". And to the hundreds of people already in the queue, we raise our hats.

Lol, the food store is called U.F.O.

OMG that is crazy! It's cold out there tonight! Blimey I'm impressed by the bravery/madness.. I hope they all get tickets!

Hope they all get what they want.
