May 24, 200818 yr If you were really good Coldplay fans.. apart from the songs that COLDPLAY have let the fans have I/E VH Viva la vida You would not listen to leaks etc and wait until the album is comes out on the mass market.
May 24, 200818 yr I'll tell you where you're wrong.... I don't see it as stealing from Coldplay. I see it as stealing from EMI, who I'm sure you all agree, are bastards anyways. In fact, I'm pretty sure this was said over on the old coldplay.com FAQ, and debs said the band don't mind people downloading their stuff because in the long run it's advertising their music. making people want to go and see them live. musicians make up to 5% at the most from every CD sold. they make their money from playing concerts. :)

May 24, 200818 yr i disagree because everyone on this forum will be deleting the downloads and buying the album the day it comes out. if not, then you're not a true coldplay fan. but we don't have to worry about that
May 24, 200818 yr that's the point, we don't have to worry about that I'd download the full album right now if I'd find any link.. because I know I'd buy the album and pay for a ticket if they come here too
May 24, 200818 yr Aye, I'm with ASR and Lore too. I'm keeping away from leaks as much as I can, but not on a moral ground, just because if I listened to the lot then there would be nothing to look forward too. But the people that download the stuff here will, most likely be buying the album and a ticket (or many in some cases) to their live shows.
May 24, 200818 yr I'm not keeping away from the leaks coz I'm way too curious, but I really hope that the whole album doesn't leak, but just because it would be nice to have that surprise element. I don't think downloading it makes me less of a fan. Specially coz I've already pre-ordered the album - as many here have already done!!!!!! (And will be buying tickets, for sure, if they play anywhere near me!!)
May 24, 200818 yr I guess I'm not a good Coldplay fan according to what you said. I've procured all the songs that I've found on the net of their latest album and if I had the chance to download the whole one, I definitely would. And I probably won't buy it when it's out. So yeah, I might be bad to other people's eyes ALTHOUGH personally, I don't feel I am.
May 24, 200818 yr tbf bart, you're accusing people who spend 90% of their lives on a coldplay board, of not being true fans :laugh3: - just think about it man. we're ALL going to buy the CD anyways, for the sleeve and the artwork and those of us who CAN, will be going to concerts. :)
May 24, 200818 yr I think the point Bart was making was that it is better to wait until the album is released to hear the songs, so that there is something to look forward to, instead of listening to half of it before it is released, right? I don't know lol.
May 24, 200818 yr lol, no no. he said "if you were really good coldplay fans" you can't defend him here :P he has an angry mob to deal with. and by "angry mob" I mean "group of coldplay fans who will politely tell him that he is wrong and then laugh about it over tea later"
May 24, 200818 yr and by "angry mob" I mean "group of coldplay fans who will politely tell him that he is wrong and then laugh about it over tea later" :laugh4::laugh4: That's brilliant!!!
May 24, 200818 yr I agree with both ideas, Daryl is right, we shouldn't had listened the leaks (i did), more than anything... because ok don't we had listened already at least 6 songs :uhoh: and if the album has 11-12... (said it would be a 9 tracks album ), don't we had listened almost the whole album already, then listen the album once it is realised, i fear we could had lose some expectation that we had.. :\ is just my opinion, that's why i agree with daryl statement. but on the other hand i have to agree with the rest of you, once the album will be realised (that is pretty soon ) i'll buy it, so i don't see it as a leak, if i'm not mistaken TIL, was taken directly from Coldplay.com... is their fault not having had this as protected as it should then, it was pretty easy to leak it from there.
May 24, 200818 yr i disagree because everyone on this forum will be deleting the downloads and buying the album the day it comes out. if not, then you're not a true coldplay fan. but we don't have to worry about that you hit the spot

Like me :smug: I'm trying not to listen to any of the leaked stuff, I haven't even heard Viva La Vida. I have only heard VH, Lost & A Spell
May 24, 200818 yr If you heard a poor quality audio-rip of some leaked tracks it spoils the surprise when you hear the full-bodied CD.
May 24, 200818 yr I agree with bart, I am a fan and I refuse to listen to leaks. Partly because its wrong, partly because it hasnt been released for a reason. Maybe their are some problems with leaked songs that they still havent worked out? Like the Life in Technicolour vids all said "rough draft". and since they were all taken down it means they werent yet meant to be seen. If you truly respect the band, you will stop acting ridiculous and just wait a few more weeks. God, its not like if you dont listen to leaks you wont get the album, youll be able to hear everything when Coldplay is damn ready to show to you.
May 24, 200818 yr i have to say that i really disagree. i might even go so far to say that the BEST coldplay fans download the leaks (as long as they go out and buy the CD and tour tickets if they can), because it shows that we are most excited for the new stuff and the most in love with what they produce. us diehards aren't shorting coldplay out of money because we're going to buy the real thing anyway, so as long as we WANT to hear, i don't think there's any harm in it whatsoever. besides, i don't mind shorting EMI out of much these days. i personally don't think there's anything special about june 12 or june 17 or whenever you're going to get the album, so if the entire thing leaks before then, i have to say that i don't really understand why you wouldn't listen, as long as you buy the real thing later and/or donate what you would have spent on it to a charity. If you heard a poor quality audio-rip of some leaked tracks it spoils the surprise when you hear the full-bodied CD. i also have to disagree here. i think hearing a bad-quality version or a non-album version of a track heightens the surprise of the album track. i am now more excited for "lovers in japan" than ever because i can't wait to hear how the "real" track sounds. it's like a sample before the real thing. and it makes the track sound even more amazing when you hear it how it was meant to sound.
May 24, 200818 yr well there is a chance some of these leaks are unfinished products that Coldplay dont want us to hear. I used to be in a band and my drummer was constantly taking unfinished songs and playing them for people. they sounded horrible, and it was really humiliating as everyone then thought we completely sucked. If theres a chance that we arent supposed to hear these leaks, I dont want to go against Coldplay's wishes. If they approve of the leak and encourage listening, its a different story, but I dont listen to anything they havent approved.
May 24, 200818 yr ^i completely understand this, but as a rabid fan, there's no way of me resisting. in their postition, i would feel the same way, but as it stands, some of my favorite coldplay songs are ones that haven't been officially released. i can't pass up the chance of listening to every coldplay song out there because it just might be my favorite one ever. a perfect example for me is "ladder to the sun." and even though the band might not want them to be released or anything like that, i don't think it's disrespectful or whatever to listen to them. of course, this whole argument just boils down to what you like to do best. for some people, leaks spoil the album. for me, leaks make me more excited and more in love with the thing. it's no use lumping all leak-listeners and all non-leak-listeners into categories :D

Leaks would spoil the album for me, so I wont listen to them.
May 25, 200818 yr i don't think it matters a lot in coldplay's case [or any successful band for that matter] as they're rich anyway. i guess most people wouldn't still buy the album if it was someone else. if it's a band that isn't already famous it will affect them if the sell less records because they don't exactly make a lot of money with their concerts either.
May 25, 200818 yr If you heard a poor quality audio-rip of some leaked tracks it spoils the surprise when you hear the full-bodied CD.not really. not in my case ... i mean .. before in rainbows came out i knew some of the songs but i was still blown away when i heard the final versions :P plus i won't be deleting the leaks and buy the cd when it comes out. i'd rather have a digital stolen copy first and then decide if it's worth the money. and i do the same thing for every band, not only coldplay.
