I've been wondering about this for a while.. of course everyone has likes and dislikes musically, but it seems to me that much of the vitriol directed at Coldplay is due to pretty transparent reasons..

Coldplay are unusual (and maybe have less edge according to some) because they haven't adhered to the rock cliche of having drug problems, going off the rails, and fighting continually etc- but that's because they just happen to have their heads screwed on, and besides I always thought music is about doing what you want, not caring about image etc. The slew of current nu-rave bands that I'm sure can't stand Coldplay claim to not care about their image, but it's obvious they're the ones who care about it the most- Coldplay are only being themselves, so surely they're a ton cooler than those 'I do loads of drugs' kids whose music will be forgotten instantly?

 

I've met 1/2 of Coldplay (Jonny and Guy), and my friend knows C-Mart from their time at University together, and they are exactly as they come across in the media- totally down to earth, charismatic, nice fellas. They've worked so hard to get to where they have, and have progressed their sound as opposed to many bands who churn out the same old crap. Plus the millions of bands who copy Coldplay are so depressingly lame in comparison, it makes Coldplay stand out all the more. Surely they deserve a break from all the personal and musical bashing that's directed their way?

They are jealous that their favourite band cant do what Coldplay can do.

I personally think its the success they had. How many people would hate it if a small band alright-ish be this big and be maga superstars in their faces 24-7. Their jealous and just haave to express their own annoynace of Coldplay with overrated amazingly terrible reviews, but I think deep down they feel it hard to believe they actually think their a good band!!!!!

In my opinion they are jealous of the fact that Coldplay have not got one single bad song! Every song is a classic in my eyes and not many bands these days can keep that sort of standard up! How could you not like Coldplay :shocked2: Four albums and still going strong! :D :D

Sometimes I take a look at the people who say this stuff about the band and it seems like they always come up with comments that don't justify at all why they don't like the band..... I always hear comments like "Coldplay's gay" "Coldplay sux" "their lyrics make no sense" (Well yea they don't make sense you brain-dead retard cos you don't analize them.. you don't think!):dozey:

anyway.. my point is... these people don't really have good reasons (or they make them up:thinking: ) so I tend to ignore them

yeah i dont get the coldplay hate myself...i dont see how you can actually hate a band. sure everyone hates certain styles, but i mean come on.

 

ive also heard the "you're gay if you listen to coldplay". this was said to me by multiple friends when i first discovered coldplay back with AROBTTH. now all these friends like coldplay. so jokes on the bastards who say they dislike them for no concrete reason.

i fucking hate those people. all of them. its okay not to like coldplay because of theyre different genre they lsiten too but to hate them and say they have no talent and theyre homs or gay fucking drives me off the walls. why does coldplay deserve this. theyre good down-to-earth people that dont do drugs and fuck up all the time like the other fucking bands. and also chris and the rest of coldplay(mostly chrsi) has an unbelievable voice. its not easy to have such a good falsetto that chris has. thats a gift. so whenever someone that talks to you about coldplay in a negative way like i say, just give them shit. thats what im trying to do when my friends say theyre gay and shit when theyre not. for chris* sake theyre all married and guy is devorced. i love coldlplay and i get scared wearing a CP shirt to school because ill be laughed at. theyre good men so those people need to stop giving them such a fucking hard time. jeez theyre tryiing to be liked, thats what chris said...Period

yeah, the most recurring ones i hear are that chris sucks, and theyre trying to be u2, yada yada...and another is that they dont like the piano guitar mix...iunno...im slowly converting some of my friends though by playing them some b-sides

I agree with you, bn22my. I think most of these people envy Coldplay success and just can't stand the fact that the band members don't fit the rock stars' cliche. Because it'd be very easy to criticize their bad habits or their latest affairs and so on. Being good boys that make great music is too much to people who failed at life and can only feel better bashing others.

 

I understand lots of people simply don't like their songs, which is normal, I'm talking about the ones who are particularly worried in letting all the world know how much they hate Coldplay.

Some people hate anything mainstream, because they're far too "cool" to like mainstream music.

Aaaaa, you have no idea how much the "depressing" view drives me up the wall!! Even my tutor says they're depressing....I mean WTF!!! If you find coldplay depressing then I think that your probably just a generally depressive person.

I find the melody and beat of Coldplay generaly uplifting and the lyrics are nothing short of inspiring.

There's many times i've listened to coldplay when I'm feeling down. lightens the mood any time of the day for me. :)

I don't have to deal with this, because i'm too young to have friends that like music in the way I do.
