June 7, 201016 yr THAT was the finest football match in recent footballing history. I totally agree with that, but since then - for whatever reasons - Liverpool have been on the decline, and this season just gone, they were pretty awful by their standards. They only have two world-class players (Torres and Gerrard), and whenever either of them has been out of the side, the performances have pretty much sucked. I'm not saying Benitez was necessarily solely to blame for all that, but he had made a lot of duff signings, which certainly didn't help matters.;)

An FA Cup, a second Champions League final, steady progress in the league, culminating in the club's most realistic title push for 20 years with only the 5th most expensive squad in the league would suggest otherwise. Reina, Carragher, Mascherano, Gerrard and Torres are, in my eyes, world class players. Xabi Alonso was a world class player. Johnson has the potential to be world class. Any side would miss world class players when they are injured, even more so when you are not given the finances to buy the players you want. The spine of the team is as solid as any team in Europe; the squad is simply not strong enough. Rafa has been consistently financially undermined. Rafa being crap in the transfer market is a myth.

June 7, 201016 yr I only caught the first half last night but I saw the penalty shoot out on a repeat earlier tonight. The teams were such a jumble of people that you'd never expect to see together, it's hilarious! Loved seeing Ricky Hatton score that goal at old trafford haha, he took it really well. I loved how the commentator at the end said something like "and that's it; Woody from Cheers wins it for the Rest of the World!" Completely bizarre and for a great cause.
