Premier League is old news

It's all about the Championship

Not going that bad at the moment for Newcastle is it? Shola Ameobi - your saviour.

Our bus driver in Britain was a die-hard Newcastle fan, so most of the students got jerseys right before they were relegated.

Tnspieler1022 Why the hell would you buy a Newcastle shirt just because your bus driver supports them?

I didn't.

But a bunch of other students, including my roommate did. I wish I gotten something at the sports store in London though, because since the season was over, official jerseys were selling for like, 15 pounds. But I never got around to it, plus I had no idea which team I wanted to support.

LOL at ManPoo. :laugh3:

So fucking witty.

Like I said, they are a Premier League team, who played well and their keeper played a blinder, it's not lol at all, it's just Well Done Burnley

Meanwhile... " There was a team in a city called Barcelona, whom had been kindly invited to play the european champions..

Barcelona 0 Manchester City 1.

I went, was in the city end.. I shall never forget, ! Barca were very gracuous in defeat, Even though it was not a part of their plan.

We behaved impically and gave ourselves at least to my knowledge.. a great impression..

back from the Burnley Man Utd game, what great stuff :laugh3:

And Robbie Blake scored right in front of our section. :D

And Robbie Blake scored right in front of our section. :D

Guess you got to take this back:

my season ticket for Burnley arrived this morning! Roll on the new season and 19 home defeats! :D

:P

haha, yes maybe 18 defeats! and just checked my fantasy team and Burnley's goalie got me 14 points on his own last night :laugh3:

Everton agree to sell Joleon Lescott for £24m to Manchester City

Everton have finally given in to Manchester City's long-running pursuit of Joleon Lescott but will report the Eastlands club to the Premier League over their conduct in the months it has taken to agree a £24 million deal.

City inquired about signing Lescott in the January transfer window and followed up that interest with two bids, worth £15 million and £18 million, during the close-season that were rejected by the Everton manager, David Moyes, who rebuffed a transfer request from the player 13 days ago.

Moyes was infuriated by City's behaviour and branded their attempts to sign Lescott as "disgusting", while the club's captain Phil Neville was also critical of their conduct.

The Scot was adamant Lescott would not be allowed to leave Goodison Park and the former Wolves defender played in last Saturday's 6-1 defeat at Arsenal, despite asking to be left out the day before, but was subsequently dropped from the squad for Thursday's 4-0 victory over Sigma Olomouc due to his attitude.

Moyes, whose side face Burnley at Turf Moor this afternoon, reluctantly changed his mind about the deal and has decided to sell for a fee Everton are satisfied with. But the saga will not end there, with the Merseyside club set to contact the Premier League to complain about City.

They could cite the example of Ashley Cole's bitter move from Arsenal to Chelsea in 2005 which was followed by the Stamford Bridge club being found guilty of an illegal approach, fined £300,000 and given a suspended three-point penalty.

Moyes remains bitterly disappointed about losing a player he picked up from the Championship three years ago and helped turn into an England international but, despite his earlier reluctance, he was left with little choice but to sanction Lescott's departure.

"It's been difficult because Joleon's attitude has been so poor and it's had an effect and that's why we've had to leave him out," Moyes said. "Obviously we'd rather have him playing but if a player is going to behave in the manner he did, we've had no choice but to keep him away from it.

"You could see the effect that it had last week. I think it's played a big part behind the scenes.

"Joleon had told me on the Friday when he came in that he didn't want to play but I had no options and few choices so I chose to ignore it and play him but in the end it worked against me so I've taken the decision."

Phil Jagielka is out injured until November and Moyes, having spent the summer in a fruitless search for reinforcements, may struggle to make additions.

Moyes, who pulled out of a move for Arsenal's Phillipe Senderos and has also inquired about Newcastle's Steven Taylor, will consider bidding for the Republic of Ireland international centre-back in the next few days.

The Everton manager has secured a work permit for Argentinian Ever Banega and hopes to sign the Valencia midfielder on a season-long loan deal this week.

West Ham striker Dean Ashton to announce retirement from football

Dean Ashton is set to announce his shock retirement from football.

The 26 year-old West Ham and England striker is suffering from a degenerative ankle problem. He travelled to Amsterdam three weeks ago for an assessment from leading Dutch surgeon Niek van Dijk and was warned he could end up wheelchair-bound if he carried on playing.

A Hammers spokesman said last night: “We can confirm Dean Ashton is unavailable for selection but we cannot comment any further."

Ashton, who has endured ankle problems since sustaining a fracture during an England training session in August 2006, has not been able to train or play since breaking down in manager Gianfranco Zola's first training session on September 15 last year.

Dutch surgeon Van Dijk originally operated on Ashton’s ankle after the England training ground accident with Shaun Wright-Phillips three years ago.

Following 11 months out the game the £7million signing from Norwich eventually returned to action and admitted he feared his career might have been over.

In June 2007 Ashton said: "At your low points you think you're never going to play again and that is a horrible feeling. Anyone who tells you they don't feel like that would be lying."

However, the burly striker battled back to make 35 league and cup appearances and scored 11 goals.

But the worsening state of his ankle was already taking its toll.

Despite signing a new five-year contract, worth £50,000 a-week last summer, Ashton has now been sidelined for almost a year. He underwent further surgery on his ankle in February this year and underwent a course of rehabilitation with former West Ham physiotherapist John Green.

Green has worked with other long term casualties such as Kieron Dyer and Michael Owen.

Despite these sessions Ashton has suffered excruciating pain in his ankle, which is rapidly getting worse.

The club decided to take the intiative recently as Ashton’s condition showed no sign of subsiding.

They stopped Ashton’s consultations with Green and sent him with their medical team to see Van Dijk in Holland.

Van Dijk informed Ashton that he could perform high-risk surgery to alleviate the pain but that the striker had to accept his playing career was over.

West Ham are now in the process of lodging an insurance claim while negotiating a pay-off for Ashton.

Ashton and Darren Bosson, the player’s agent, were not available for comment.

West Ham star Calum Davenport and his mother stabbed in attack at their home

article-1208331-068036F30000044D-218_233x468.jpg Attack: Calum Davenport had surgery for leg wounds

Premier League footballer Calum Davenport was last night being treated in hospital for serious stab wounds to his legs after he was attacked at his mother's home.

The West Ham defender, 26, underwent emergency surgery after the attack at the house in Kempston, near Bedford, at 5am yesterday.

His girlfriend, Zoe, was at his hospital bedside. His injuries were not life-threatening, but it was unclear whether they could end his career.

Last night a 25-year-old man was arrested 100 miles away in Derby and was being held on suspicion of attempted murder. Another man, aged 19, was also arrested and was due to be questioned.

Mr Davenport's mother, Kim, 49, was being treated in hospital but her injuries were not thought to be lifethreatening. Police were due to question her yesterday.

The events leading up to the stabbing are unclear but neighbours on the quiet suburban street said they had heard shouting outside the semidetached house.

The footballer's sister, Cara, 28, was also said to be present.

A family member, who did not want to be named, said: 'We are all praying and hoping everything is all right.'

Neighbour Ann Desics, 61, said: 'I just heard all this shouting. It's an awful thing to happen. I hope he's OK.'

'Calum was stabbed in the leg several times,' said another resident. 'There was a lot of blood.'

Another neighbour said: 'We are all a bit shocked. You just don't expect something like this to happen here.'

Davenport is a former England Under-21 international. He cost West Ham £3million when he joined the team from Tottenham in summer 2007. He is a fringe member of the squad and has been linked with a move away from Upton Park in recent weeks.

Mr Davenport had a spell on loan at Sunderland last season and has also played for Coventry. He was also loaned to Southampton and Norwich City while at Tottenham.

His mother has lived in Kempston for a year and he is a regular visitor, neighbours said.

West Ham said in a statement: 'The club's medical team are in contact with hospital staff. The thoughts of everyone here are with Calum and his family.'

Another win for Burnley, 2nd time @ Turf Moor.

The boss must be chuffed!

Burnley's fairytale start claims Everton scalp

BURNLEY (AFP) – Burnley's fairytale start to life in the Premier League continued on Sunday as Wade Elliott's goal earned a 1-0 victory over Everton.

Owen Coyle's team marked their first home match in the English top-flight for 33 years by beating reigning champions Manchester United 1-0 in midweek and Everton suffered the same fate in front of another vociferous full house at Turf Moor.

The Clarets, promoted via the Championship play-offs last season, took the lead through Elliott's first half strike and wrapped up their second win in three matches after Everton striker Louis Saha missed a second half penalty.

Saha's blunder left Everton without a single point from their first two league matches, while Burnley are flying high in seventh place.

Everton captain Phil Neville once again deputised for Joleon Lescott at centre-half as the England defender's transfer to Manchester City edged closer.

After shocking United on Wednesday, Burnley started full of confidence and almost got off the perfect start after just 40 seconds.

Chris McCann found space on the left to swing over a cross and goalkeeper Tim Howard could only stand and watch as Martin Paterson's header rebounded off the crossbar. The rebound dropped to Steven Fletcher, but Howard was equal to his low shot.

The Clarets threatened again two minutes later when Elliott's right-wing cross found Paterson, but he failed to test Howard.

Everton were struggling to contain the hosts and a flowing move involving Stephen Jordan, Robbie Blake and McCann saw the latter cross to the far post but again Burnley's finishing was poor as Fletcher scuffed well wide.

David Moyes's team had arrived at Turf Moor on the back of a 4-0 midweek win in Europe, but they seemed drained by their efforts against Sigma Olomouc.

Only a Jack Rodwell header from Leighton Baines's corner brought Burnley keeper Brian Jensen into action.

It came as no surprise when Burnley took the lead in the 34th minute.

Elliott and Paterson missed Blake's right-wing cross but Fletcher turned the ball back to Elliott and he had time to pick his spot just inside Howard's right-hand post.

Everton midfielder Tim Cahill dropped deeper in the second half but the first time the Australian drove forward he looked dangerous and had a shot deflected for a corner.

Burnley were still creating the majority of the chances and when Graham Alexander's half-hit shot looped up to McCann in the penalty area his overhead kick was tipped over by a stretching Howard in the 63rd minute.

But Everton were gifted a lifeline in the 75th minute when referee Phil Dowd awarded a penalty against McCann despite television replays showing Tony Hibbert had gone down without a touch in the area.

Justice was done however as Saha pulled his spot-kick wide of Jensen's left-hand post.

Wow, very surprised to see mc_squared has the cheek to show his face on any sort of football thread here after all his nastiness on the Tottenham thread last year (where he smugly assured Spurs of relegation in his usual poisonous fashion).

Well, we went on to almost make European qualification, with form over the last 3/4 of the season that would have seen us challenging the top four if it had been season-long, as well as a cup final appearance.

I'll take the same again this year, but expect us to be challenging top six. Another good run in a cup looks likely :)
