VLVODAAHF No.18 in UK

Featured Replies

this is no good news cause it's selling very bad in Uk!!

If this reachs 4xplatinum it would be amazing||

and next week duffy will rise to no1 where she will be all summer long

It's not selling badly at all though. 600,000 in 5 weeks is not "badly". It might not have sold as many as Duffy, but I'm certain many bands would give their right arm to be selling at that rate.

no, that's true, there isn't much competition - X&Y was at #1 for 4 weeks, but it sold 900k over that period and was unseated by James Blunt. It's just gonna take one new major release to topple it

Basshunter and Sharleen Spiteri are both looking like to knock CP off the top of the album chart this week. Bumping them down to 3.

WTF?! Basshunter?!

Mcfly appear to be heading for number one with the first single released on their own label Super Records.

One For The Radio is 5,000 sales ahead of its nearest competitor, Dizzee Rascal’s Dance Wiv Me (Dirtee Stank), according to early retail reports.

Meanwhile, Kid Rock’s All Summer Long (Atlantic) looks set to claim a top three place in the chart this Sunday, while Madonna’s Give It 2 Me (Warner Bros) should climb into the top ten.

On the albums chart, it looks likely to be a close-fought competition at the top of the charts, with only 30 sales currently separating Basshunter’s debut Now You’re Gone – The Album (Hard2Beat) and Sharleen Spiteri’s Melody (Mercury).

Now You’re Gone is fractionally ahead at this point, with Coldplay’s Viva La Vida (Parlophone) still selling well and set for another week in the top three.

The Hold Steady’s debut album for Rough Trade, Stay Positive, should also debut in the top ten.

Mediatraffic? An unofficial worldwide chart? It's not THAT reliable.

In a week of contrasting fortunes, singles sales slide to a 2008 low, while album sales rocket to their highest level of the year.

Helped by new releases by Coldplay and The Fratellis and the approach of Father’s Day, album sales increased for the fifth week in a row, growing a massive 35.6% to 2,810,459.

Not released until Thursday, Coldplay’s eagerly-awaited third album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends scorched to number one with 72-hour sales of 302,074, cornering a 10.75% share of the market.

Coldplay equal best albums run at one

11:17 | Monday July 7, 2008

By Alan Jones

Coldplay’s Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends makes another big (46.6%) dip in sales but still has enough power to easily chalk up another week at the top of the artist albums chart, with sales of 58,509 being more than its two closest challengers – Duffy’s Rockferry (35,683) and Chris Brown’s Exclusive (18,157) combined.

Viva La Vida has now been number one for four weeks, equalling Coldplay’s personal record, as set by their last album, X&Y. At that stage of its life, X&Y had sold 907,240 copies, while Viva La Vida has sold 668,114 copies.

But Europop dance?

Urgh, what are the people of Britain thinking?

:o Basshunter??? BASSHUNTER??!!! ARE PEOPLE FREAKING JOKING?! WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!! How the hell can that be number 1??????? That's even worst than the Crazy Frog...

Coldplay surge to top of album charts

By Andrew Napier

Recordbreaking rock group Coldplay, with Southampton drummer Will Champion, have surged to the top of the album charts - in just three days.

Their fourth album, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, had sold 302,000 copies since release last Thursday to become one of the fastest-selling records in history.

Gennaro Castaldo, of music retailer HMV, said: "Coldplay have sold as many albums in three days as most big artists sell in three months.

"They have the broadest appeal of any band around in terms of combined record store, online and download sales, and are already certs to have the biggest release of 2008," he said.

The drummer Will was born in Southampton to two academics at the university.

He attended local schools including Cantell secondary in Bassett before going on to University College London where he met the other members of Coldplay.

His father Tim is professor of archaeology and his mother Sara who died of cancer in 2000 was also a lecturer in that department. In 2006 he returned to Southampton to officially open the archaeology department's new building on campus.

At the time he said: "This building seems to encapsulate everything that my mother loved - art, archaeology and technology."

Now a father of three and estimated to be worth £30 million, Will, 29, is a Saints fan and has been a season ticket holder at St Marys.
