June 17, 200818 yr I apologise in advance if this has already been covered, but according to a recent article in NME, Coldplay state that an unreleased track titled Lunar with Kylie Minogue is to be released on an album due for release in 2009. What do we think the chances of this are? I remember when X&Y was released, Chris had said in an interview we could expect a new album the year after X&Y, but as we know, that didn't happen. Would be nice though... [ URL]="http://nme.com/news/coldplay/37056"[/url]
June 18, 200818 yr That would be pretty awesome if Coldplay released another album next year, but I highly doubt it... Lunar will probably just be released as a single... (Could be wrong!)
June 18, 200818 yr Author I'm not even sure they'll do that, not as a physical release. They might end up doing it as an iTunes exclusive EP accompanied with 4 or 5 live tracks from the VLV tour.
June 18, 200818 yr I have a good feeling its going to be a b-side album including Kylie's song Lunar. Chris has said the songs that didnt make VLV will eventually come out sooner or later. What if its called "Death and All His Friends"

What if its called "Death and All His Friends" The idea that the two titles comprise two different albums is already dead. But the idea of a b-side album almost makes more sense than an album comprised entirely of VLV leftovers (although if I could, I'd like to hear them all). But, to play devil's advocate with myself, I'm not sure that we really know the names of all of the tracks that were worked on during the VLV sessions. We thought we knew everything when "ASARY" was announced, didn't we? So maybe there ARE enough tracks for a VLV b-sides disc. Listen to me, the old greedy bastard.

It would definitely beat waiting another 3 years for an album...
June 20, 200818 yr This would be great...I think they should do another studio album for end of '09, and then release a greatest hits the following year, it would be ten years since Parachutes.
June 20, 200818 yr Yeah, what happened to all those songs we thought were going to be on VLVODAAHF.... Leftrightleft... Poppy Fields, ect. ???
June 20, 200818 yr That would be fantastic. They take so long between albums, it'd be great to get album #5 before another 3 years.
June 21, 200818 yr Author If a new batch of studio songs isn't a reality, I'd like to see the band release a 2CD set covering the 2000-2009 Best Of, kind of like U2 did. Except, Disc 1 would be hits and Disc 2 would be B-sides. U2 did this, but the B-sides disc(s) were only made in limited quantities.
June 21, 200818 yr EMI will make sure your Best Of dreams will come true as Coldplay's contract expires, never fear.
June 21, 200818 yr Life In Technicolour (with lyrics) Famous Old Painters Postcards From Far Away Glass Of Water Lukas Prospekt's March Poppy Fields Leftrightleftrightleft Rainy Day Lunar Definitely enough tracks for another album.
June 23, 200818 yr i'd almost rather have an album of their best unreleased stuff, or a box of everything and anything unreleased. still dying to hear deserter and so sad (not just the 13 second clip)
June 23, 200818 yr It's possible considering what a songwriting streak it sounds like Chris has been on. Sure, they said there would be new album out the year after X&Y, but then again, they struggled so much to get those songs to sound like they wanted. If I remember correctly, they had to scratch to album twice and ended up recording it 3 times. On VLV they've been pumping out songs that they seem to be confident about. Remember when Bloc Party released A Weekend in the City and there were enough b-sides released at the same time of the album to make a second album? People started making tracklistings and dubbed it "Another Weekend In the City" and it was about as good as the main album. So releasing a full album of b-sides from one session and getting it to work is possible. (Amnesiac, anyone??)

I think we're all getting our hopes a little too much, the songs left off are probably all fantastic but getting it through the band's quality control will prove difficult i'm sure. I think the best chance of getting this album out quickly is if they have a massive fall out with EMI and decide they want to tie up loose ends and get off the label sharpish!
June 24, 200818 yr that wud be truley awsome. i think there trying to do it a bit more beatles syle and release albums out one after another every year or so. i think chris mentioned about wanting to do the beatles style quick release in an interview somewhere.

Do you remember where you read that? That would really be amazing, very few bands actually do it that way anymore (Cloud Cult and Starflyer 59 are the only bands I can think of who release albums that often)
