July 11, 200817 yr Okay I take back all the X&Y hate. I actually discovered it's a pretty good album, I prefer it to Parachutes. The only problem I have with it, is that I just thought it didn't evolve them enough from AROBTTH. I really love that they decided to examine the problem with that project after and took some time to really come back with a truly great album.
October 2, 200817 yr okay, well if i must, i would have to say that X&Y is amazing i can't believe people say it is their worst effort. they were trying to break away from their unique sounding music and change it up a bit. each song has a strong point and nothing should be changed to what they released Square one is a pump up song and i really like it white shadows is great as well Low is the most underrated song i feel because it has great build up. Reign of love is a great epiligue if you will to LIJ, because it is somewhat like "the morning after" if you know what i mean. it is soft and relaxing lovers in japan is like the excitment of a night in japan, and reign of love is like waking up tired and drained of energy in the morning. chinese sleep chant. is a good song. despite the lack of lyrical content, there is great guitar and johnny is great yet again thats what i have to say
October 2, 200817 yr X&Y was the album that REALLY got me into Coldplay, but looking back I'd place it third behind VLV and AROBTTH. Square One - 8 What If - 9 White Shadows - 6.5 Fix You - 10 Talk - 5.5 X&Y - 6.5 Speed of Sound - 9 A Message - 9 Low - 6.5 The Hardest Part - 9 Swallowed in the Sea - 7 Twisted Logic - 7.5 Till Kingdom Come - 7 I like Reign of Love, I do not like Chinese Sleep Chant.
October 5, 200817 yr I love both 'Reign of Love' and 'Chinese Sleep Chant'. What I seem to notice is a lot of people reviewing just individual tracks, and so I guess those two songs would not be as great as some of the songs off X&Y. But personally, the way I connect most to music is for the whole, the entirety. I like albums, played from start to finish, so I tend to think of how 'good' as song is not always as much on its complexity or skill (although that is a factor), but how it contributes to the feel or sound of the album. And I'd say these 2 songs and their production are sort of magical to me, after listening to all the songs preceding them (except 'Yes', which is a bit weak I think) and the mood that they provide. And that's always mostly what Coldplay has founded their sound on is providing a sound. And X&Y was a mess. The songs individually might be good, but what exactly was the album supposed to sound like? It's all over the place. And 'Viva La Vida' is great because you can listen to it straight through, it's very consistent and every song contributes to the overall product.

I actually think X&Y flows better as a full album than VLV, but it's a different style of flow. VLV has a lot more variety.
October 6, 200817 yr X&Y is a very good album. And God such an awesome song. Reign Of Love is a beautiful ballad, its supposed simplicity grows into such complex and dreamy emotions that I can't say no to. And Chinese Sleep Chant IMO is overrated...
October 6, 200817 yr X&Y album and song is fucken amazing!! Ilove them!! ROL is a good song very sweet!! CSC really dont get and usually never listen to!
October 6, 200817 yr x & y song is underated, for me is the 6th best song on x and y, reign of love is ok, I mean I don't like it a lot but meh I don't mind it, chinese sleep chant is a bit better, I love johnny's solo but I think there are better songs on the album
October 6, 200817 yr X&Y has some really good songs.. but as a whole it's not that awesome... white shadows live was awesome... and I really like twisted logic and swallowed in the sea I don't really like csc or reign of love :(
October 8, 200817 yr X&Y has some really good songs.. but as a whole it's not that awesome... white shadows live was awesome... and I really like twisted logic and swallowed in the sea I don't really like csc or reign of love :( see, i don't get how you cant think it is really awesome because it is each song brings out a different quality in the band there may be one track like X&Y that is somewhat weak, but other than that, everything else is pretty good to be honest, fix you is probably the best song on the album because it is really the first time the band all has chanting so to speak, well more or less group singing with everyone singing background vocals
October 8, 200817 yr X & Y was and is awesome, and gets more play in our house than Viva by far. ROL: decent but underdeveloped. It just doesn't seem to go anywhere and the piano should have been allowed to shine a bit more. CSC: I like it a lot actually, but it does sound more like B-side material.
October 12, 200817 yr I'm very atypical in my posture on X&Y... it is the album which turned me into a Coldplay fan! +1
October 28, 200817 yr I love all these very dearly indeed, CSC & RoL are up there for me amongst the best of the album. I went off x&y for a long time, but now i've re-found it and fallen in deepest love with it yet again it's a revelation - a very, very good album that stands up to the rest, though it's not my no 1.
October 31, 200817 yr X&Y turned me into a fan as well. Any band who can base a great song off of a Kraftwerk riff is a'ok in my book! I absolutely adore "Square One" and "White Shadows." Rush of Blood... took me a bit longer to get into, but I love it now. VlV left me underwhelmed, until I saw the concert. Now the songs are growing on me more.
November 1, 200817 yr I've been in love with Coldplay since 2005 because of the X&Y album Reign of Love is brilliantly like an intermission, I think the word "lovely" describes it perfectly.
November 1, 200817 yr Three great songs. X&Y is seriously underestimated, the guitar especially during the bridge is incredible. Reign of Love is lovely and CCS is refreshing because of it's stripped down approach. Just streamlined reverb/distorted guitar with a straight forward melody, a sweet contrast to the songs surrounding it on the album.
November 2, 200817 yr I listened to X&Y for the first time in months an hour ago, and I didn't find myself skipping any songs. It tends to get overshadowed by the other three albums, but it's not a bad album, not at all.
