For 'Roadie', when Amazon put the description on their website, it was mentionned thaht Chris would write a 'preface'...so I assume people thought it was kinda official....

But since, it has been wisdrawn of Amazon, all hope is gone to read this little baby :dozey: Weird cause the book had an ISBN number....

Anyway, I hope Matt will find a publisher (the little part post on the website was awesome!! I WANT MORE ToT)!!

Q. Dear Oracle,

Do you happen to know if ducks have armpits?

The Oracle replies:

Given that they don't have arms... no!

( What a random question)

Q. Hi, Oracle. I have a question that urgently needs to be answered before I get my ass sued!

Ok, so I've been writing songs, and the other day I listened to a bunch of Coldplay songs backwards. Surprisingly, some of their songs sound awesome when played backwards. So I was thinking of reproducing the melody of these songs played backwards and adapting them into my own songs. Is doing this against the law? Could I get sued?

The Oracle replies:

Well, you didn't come up with the melody did you? So technically you are still taking someone else's work - backwards or otherwise!

Q. Dear Oracle,

I need you to answer this question that is important to me... you know everything and you will know the answer to this.

Do you think that I should become a mormon just to be with a girl... I like the girl, she is very into that religion, I'm not... but I'm sure she will be glad if I join, I don't like religion but I like her... what should I do?

The Oracle replies:

Personally I would say don't do it. I don't think you should do anything that extreme just because you like someone. If you can't be together in harmony respecting each other's beliefs, I don't see how it can work out. Many people do convert to be with someone but I think thats a huge sacrifice. As you say you're not into religion I wouldn't consider changing unless the relationship grows, maybe then you could consider exactly what compromises you would both be prepared to make.

Q. Oracle - I'm having a shocker of a day at work! Tell me something funny about Coldplay that we don't know, so I can smile and forget my troubles..... Thanking you kindly and hopefully!

The Oracle replies:

The first time they played Glastonbury, their then Tour manager took them to the wrong gate to load in their gear with very little time to spare. As they were first on that Sunday morning, they had to run across fields with all their stuff to the New Band's Tent, which was about as far away as it could be. They just made it in time to play.

Yeah, the description that was on amazon and comments made by people in the "Roadie" book thread made it seem like it would be the only Coldplay approved book so that's what I was led to believe...

Either way I'll still buy and read it if it ever came out since the excerpt was very entertaining, but thanks anyway for the clarification.:)

I really like this answer.

My opinion exactly!!

DON'T do it!! :)

And I hope as well that the "Roadie" book will be published... Fingers crossed!!

Mmmm.... ok, thanks for the clarification Debs :nice:

NB: Approved does not mean the same as Official...

Yes, I suppose that's true. :)

Ok lets change my previous post with approved instead of official and add a "so far" in there somewhere just to be safe and call it a day, yeah?

Actually you're not right there. Nelly is Portuguese but she sings in Spanish. FACT....

The Oracle isn't ignorant on such issues and is aware of the sensitivity.

:( thats not what i meant. i think i didnt read properly ur answer. Sorry.

Yeah I got my question answered... :D That was quick, I only sent that last night! Lol. The Oracle didnt really answer my question tho... Or maybe it was answered too vaguely. My question was is it against the law, is it infringing on copyrights etc...

Ayayayai. Maybe I should ask a lawyer... :laugh3:

i think there'll be copyright issues, since it is still someone else's piece of work...even if played backwards. unless you've asked for permission.

NB: Approved does not mean the same as Official...

thanks for clearing that up Debs :D

is the book not coming out in May then?..............at least that is what everyone was saying a while ago............ i was really looking forward to it.........the excerpt that i read did sound amazing :wideeyed:

Phil has the same birthday as me :wacky: :P

EDIT: Forgive my oversight - seems the questions were posted before.

i think there'll be copyright issues, since it is still someone else's piece of work...even if played backwards. unless you've asked for permission.

Yeah I understand there would be copyright issues if we actually used the original recording reversed but what if we just took the reversed melody and reproduced it ourselves meaning its JUST the melody that's the same, without us actually sampling it?

What if, say, someone liked the melody of 'Don't Look Back in Anger' played backwards and decided to take that reverse melody and make it into a proper song?

This question has actually been bugging me for ages... :laugh3: Cuz there's so much potential for new tunes if you listen to some songs backwards. the tunes you get are sometimes surprisingly good.

NB: Approved does not mean the same as Official...
Stop lurking in here and get busy writing the "official" bio. :P

4 new ones!!

Q. Dear Oracle,

Brian Eno produces for U2 and Coldplay respectively. Yet, these two bands are signed by two different record labels (Capitol+Interscope). Where does the producer fall in and what exactly does he do for the bands? Any tips or links for aspiring children who want to be in the music world?

most sincerely,

Brian

The Oracle replies:

As a record producer, Brian Eno isn't tied in with any specific label so he can work with whomever he likes.

Brian's role is to take the helm during recording sessions and guide the band through the process. He has many creative ideas and the band respect him enough that they like to try them out as well as come to the table with their own of course.

In the current music business climate I don't like to offer advice, as it is incredibly hard to break into. I just think you should do what you love, work hard, try your best and don't give up. Even if it means you have to do something else alongside it and many people do have to do that.

FYI: U2 are on Interscope in the States only and Mercury in the U.K (they were on Island for years). Coldplay's home is Parlophone (EMI) in the U.K.

Q. It was Chris Martin's son's birthday last week and nobody told us?? I had to find out from People magazine!

The Oracle replies:

It was one of Will's daughter's birthday too but I bet they didn't tell you that? It's not common practice to announce such things. There are 7 children of the band but as they are not IN the band, it's not something we'd be covering.

Q. O wise and knowledgeable Oracle, I have a story to tell.

One night I had a dream involving Coldplay's video Viva La Vida. (If you must know ,close friends and family of mine were watching it in a theater.) When the video was over, the curtains closed and I awoke. I was facing my TV and the music video was on it's ending notes. I was shocked and scared to the point of laughing hysterically at 3 in the morning. The next day I told my mother (she's a very worldly person) and she said :

"You have heard that song so much you probably recognized it in your sleep. It might have triggered something in your mind and it played the video." I've had dreams like this before not necessarily with Coldplay's songs. I want to know what you think.

Sincerly, Jamie.

The Oracle replies:

I have to agree with your Mother somewhat. If I fall asleep with the television on, whatever is happening on screen creeps into my dreams even without me being conscious to see/hear it. Not a good thing to happen if there's some violence going on as I wake up mid crazy aggressive dreams.

Q. Coldplay were in NZ last month and I was wondering if they had a chance to tour round the islands and wondered if there was any particular place that they liked the best?

The Oracle replies:

Unfortunately the nature of touring doesn't always allow much time for sight seeing. They didn't get to explore New Zealand at all. It's a shame because it's beautiful isn't it?

The Oracle replies:

It must be Ava's! :cheesy:

Happy birthday to both of them! :nice:

I was like, Will's daughters??I forgot he had another one :D cute

This question weird. Why would anyone announce Coldplay's kids? This is not People Mag

What a stupid question! And she was so indignant about not being told too!

"I had to find out from People mag"

I'm gonna pretend i didn't read that question..... :dozey:

Q. My lovely Oracle,

What do you think is the best way to let people know about Earth Day, this Wednesday, 22 April?

The Oracle replies:

But that's only tomorrow so you haven't given me much time to help you out on that one! Maybe this reply will let a few more people know?

Q. Hi one that knows it all

You mentioned in one of the answers that Coldplay did some sort of colaboration with Nelly Furtado.

When i searched the internet the other day it said that the song All Good Things Come to an End is by both Nelly Furtado and Coldplay. Is this true? And if so, did Coldplay just do the instrumental parts because I never hear Chris' voice.

Thank you in advance!! :)

The Oracle replies:

It wasn't Coldplay, but it was a collaboration with Chris. Unfortunately the version with his vocals didn't end up on her album but it's knocking around on the Internet somewhere. It's a shame because I thought it was a great duet.

Q. Hi Oracle.

Some of the early songs appear on two releases (singles, albums, EPs)

I was just wondering which of the following are actually new versions and which ones were just re-released:

Bigger Stronger (Safety EP/Blue Room EP);

Such a Rush (Safety EP/Blue Room EP);

No More Keeping My Feet on the Ground (Safety EP/Yellow single);

Don't Panic (Blue Room EP/Parachutes);

High Speed (Blue Room EP/Parachutes).

I think the Brothers & Sisters track from Brother's & Sisters is different from the Trouble single, judging by the intro.

I hope this isn't too much work for ya, but I'm sure I'm not the only Coldplay fan to wonder this.

Thanks a million.

The Oracle replies:

The 3 tracks that were originally on the Safety E.P are exactly the same and weren't re-recorded for their subsequent releases. There were 2 recordings of Don't Panic and High Speed from sessions with the original producer Chris Allison before Ken Nelson took over; Don't Panic on The Blue Room E.P is said version.

Brothers & Sisters on the Trouble single is a different version. In fact, the band had already recorded that track before the Fierce Panda release of it.

Q. The almighty Oracle who knows everything and can answer anything, could you please answer this question.

Q. On the 19th Manchester United will be playing Everton in the F.A cup semifinal at Wembley ... who do u think is gonna win??

The Oracle replies:

Is like one of those questions where you wanted the knowledge for a Back to the Future II type bet?

Where I give you the answer in advance so you can then go and win loads of money by knowing the outcome? I couldn't ethically do that now could I? But for those interested, Everton 4 - Manchester United 2.

It does sound better with Chris' parts.
