i LOVE the EP!

especially Now My Feet Won't touch the Ground. it's just perfect! :)

Its really good! The only thing I would have done differently was left Lost+ off the EP and LIJ(Osaka) I would have saved for a single release. This would have made space for Left, Right, Left, Right and Famous Old Painters....

AGREE! :)

Its pretty much what the b-sides to VLV would have been if bands actually had b-sides anymore.LIT2 should have been on the album.Postcards sounds like a film score.Glass of Water-cool,reminds me of the "i ran away" b-side. Rainy Day-Cool,Very U2ish.

One thing though Lost+ Why?,just why?.

Freakin brilliant from beginning to end.....Is there anything this band can make that will sound bad? answer: no!

I am blown away by everything on here. There are so many beautiful songs. I love VLV, but I'm not sure how many songs I'd call beautiful. But, then again, I don't know what else we expected. Coldplay always has killer b-sides.

Also, I have no idea how some one could prefer Lost! to Lost+. As I've said before, all it needs is more Jay-Z.

i dunno why ppl are raggin on lost +....i mean lost is an amazing song...and the small part jay z played didnt take much away from the song but added a slight edge the song didnt have before....either way good addition!

Gotta say, Osaka Sun is a fairly simple departure from the original Lovers in Japan, meaning it didn't gain much love from me. Then again, neither did Lost+.

Life in Technicolor II is perhaps some of Chris's best lyric-writing, but I feel the song might be a bit too formulaic. Someone described LIT2 as an "obvious single", which made Chris strip the lyrics and put it out as an instrumental. The lyrics are great, but yes, the generic pop structure of the song kind of kills it. "Baby, it's a violent world" is probably my favorite part of the whole album.

Glass of Water is near-perfect. This is the song where the band evolves the most on the album. Jonny's sweeping guitarwork gradually builds from soft acoustic strumming into flashy, loud, Muse-esque bombast. Will's drums drive the chorus of the song, while Guy's basslines provide a bit of character to the song. This seems to be "Coldplay as a rock band" instead of "Coldplay as the Chris Martin Show", and I'm glad. Oh, and the little added part on the end of the song is great too.

Rainy Day... I'm not sure what to think of quite yet. I've listened to it a lot... my roommate loves it and thinks it's the best song on the EP, while I'm not so convinced. I just need a few more listens...

Prospekt's March is probably my favorite song on the album. This is finally the song I've been waiting for Coldplay to create. Martin's lyrics here exceed anything he's done before by leaps and bounds. Where "You might be a big fish in a little pond" was in Lost!, we get "Don't you wish that life could be as simple//As fish swimmin' round in a barrel when you've got the gun". Martin has apparently matured a lot since VLVODAAHF's release. Even Thom Yorke would approve of this song.

My Feet Won't Touch the Ground is a short, but poignant, closing song. Coupled with Postcards from Far Away, these two songs chart out newer territory for Coldplay. Postcards from Far Away is a beautifully haunting piano interlude, while My Feet Won't Touch The Ground is another case of "Coldplay do Johnny Cash", just like 'Til Kingdom Come.

All in all, Prospekt's March might not be the full-bodied release we were all hoping for. It's only eight tracks... two of which are remixes. That leaves six short, sweet tracks for Coldplay to convince us that they still have the vision and talent to be the best band in the world, and they nearly succeed. Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends was a crash-course intro on the new Coldplay. It was far from perfect, but at least showed them heading in the right direction. Prospekt's March adds a few new worthy songs to their library, but still misses the mark by a slight bit.

Nix the remixed tracks that are just a waste of space, give us some more Prospekt's March/Glass of Water level tracks, and it won't be long before even the New York Times has to admit: ...damn. Maybe Coldplay just really are that good.

8/10

(compared to VLV's 7.5/10)

Prospekt's March/Poppy Fields is sooo beautiful!

VLV - 9.5

PM - 9

LIT II incredible.. no words :)

PCFFA lovely :nice:

GOW Cool, massive song!

RD Ooh great song

PM/PF Beautiful Song  my favourite

LOST+ I like it ;)

LIJ (Osaka) Fantastic song

NMFWTTG breathtaking...

Fantastic :nice:

I really like all the new stuff, but could have left Lost + out of this (we already have too many versions available on single release)... just ruined the whole thing and LIJ (Osaka), just beefed-up snare drums... don't need this one either. If they were going to put these on... maybe the acoustic versions would have fit better. Or better yet, gave us two more new songs as someone else mentioned above. Overall, awesome melodies and lyrics...to the new ones. Was it worth staying up half the night and calling in sick today for lack of sleep.....YES! :)

If they had put 'Glass Of Water', 'Prospekt's March', 'Postcards From Far Away', and 'Now My Feet Won't Touch The Ground' on VLV, that album would've shut the critics (and everyone else, for that matter) the hell up.

Can someone pm me a non-torrent link to the download? Like rapidshare/megaupload/etc... It'd be awesome if someone could! Thanks guys :D

LIT II - I liked the instrumental but this is even BETTER. Love the lyrics.

Postcards From Faraway - Great little piano interlude. A nice short listen.

Glass of Water - The first time I heard this song it left me speechless. INCREDIBLE. Another chorus in 7, reminiscent of DAAHF. Lovely lyrics.

Rainy Day - Verse is a little strange, but the chorus makes up for it. Wonderful strings.

Prospekt's March / Poppyfields - A nice slower one with some great lyrics.

Lost+ - Most people have already heard this one. I don't personally care for it too much.

Lovers in Japan (Osaka Sun Mix) - Not very different from the original. Some small added backing vocals. I'd say it's a slight improvement, but nothing too new.

Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground - AWESOME. Starting out with just guitar and vocals. Very reminiscent of Til Kingdom Come.

Overall, I'd give this EP a 9/10. Great work from the boys!

Postcards from far away is the best song. It's just too short. But it could have been something huuuuuuuuuuge. My God,it's just beyond this world.

Can anyone understand what is being said in Rainy Day, about 10 seconds in? some one says something.. and I can't make it out.

Anyone else holding off until tomorrow to listen to the album? For the first time in my life I am resisting the previews and will wait until tomorrow! I think it will make the experience all the more special for it, but your reviews sound great guys! *Shaking with anticipation*

hehe check your PM ;):P

OK, my verdict:

Overall it is a solid collection of songs, and I think it's fair to assert that the standard hasn't dropped massively compared to Viva. However, I find it hard to rate the EP as a whole - it isn't as thoughtfully put together as Viva. Now, that may be because it is simply an EP, or maybe that some of the songs on this EP were left off the original album because they proved difficult to fit in coherently with the album material.

Furthermore, Rainy Day aside, none of these songs massively pushes Coldplay's sound forward - certainly not to the extent that many of the tracks on Viva la Vida did, such as the title track, Lost and Death And All Of His Friends.

However, assuming that this EP is to be judged on a song to song basis rather than as a collection, here goes:

Life In Tech ii: 6/10

The basis of this song's quality has already been laid down by the superbly arranged original track, and the lyrics, although amongst Coldplay's better ones, never quite succeed in stealing the show from the original piece itself. The highlight is still the 'woah woahs' at the end of the song. It's a brilliant song, but it would have been a very hard song to mess up, and the lyrics don't add too much.

Postcards from Far Away - 8.2

Short though it may be, it's a gorgeous track - this could have made it on to Viva, perhaps as a hidden track between two songs. Maybe instead of Chinese Sleep Chant? As much as I do actually love that song!

Glass Of Water: 7.4/10

This is a solid song, but it doesn't challenge any of the tracks on Vida. Although I feared the lyrical concept of the song (how many glass of water metaphors can we get in?!) may harm it, Chris' lyrics are now of a high enough standard to carry it through. The second verse in particular is extremely interesting, with talk of televisions and figurines. It's not good enough to have been on Viva but that says more about the quality of Viva to be honest. Don't really love the ending either.

Rainy Day - 8.4/10

The highlight for me. The one song here that truly excites me. Rooted in pop sensibilities, the rhythm on this is fantastic. It would have been hard to fit on Viva just cos it is so different, but I truly believe that it is worth buying this EP (or downloading the leak...) just to own this track.

Prospekt's March/Poppyfields - 7.8

Wouldn't have put it on the album, but this is a classic Coldplay b-side. For me it harks back to A Rush Of Blood b-sides era, very well written, moving and in places haunting. Especially the Popplyfields outro.

Lost + - 7.9

Although many will disagree with me here, I think that Jay-Z adds to the track, and I much prefer this to the album version. But obviously think that Coldplay and hip-hop together are perhaps an acquired taste, but I'm personally a big fan and love this track.

Lovers in Japan (Osaka Sun Mix) - 7.6

I have to give it a high mark, cos it's a fantastic song to start off, but I'm disappointed - this new version really isn't different enough from the original to merit much attention.

Now My Feet Won't Touch The Ground - 7.5

I'm tentatively giving this score because, although it hasn't blown me away at the moment, it is exactly the kind of Coldplay song that, by the time album number 5 comes out, will be my favourite thing they've ever done. Until then, it's a nice addition to the EP, and I'd like to see it live. I do actually prefer Death Will Never Conquer though.

I love it! Simple as that.

LIT II - This totally blew me away...I wasn't expecting the song to begin straight away with the Hopkins instrumental, and it sounds AMAZING!! I frigging love this song. 10/10

Postcards From Faraway - Such a relaxing and musically perfect song - wish it was longer though!9/10

Glass of Water - My god again this BLEW ME AWAY. Possibly my favourite song! I hope it's a single, I'd love to see a video. 10/10

Rainy Day - Wow...I'm not 100% sure on my feelings for this song, it's different than anything else they've done. Great song, if a little strange. 8/10

Prospekt's March / Poppyfields - AMAZING! It's so chilling and atmospheric. Chris's voice is amazing, especially at 1:26-1:30. Another contender for favourite, with LITII and Glass of Water

Lost+ - Eh, I'm not a fan of Jay-Z or Lost! so this isn't my sort of thing. Although I do think musically it's good, it's just not my cup of tea...6/10

Lovers in Japan (Osaka Sun Mix) - Good remix, it adds more atmosphere to the song. Although this and Lost+ shouldn't be on it - we want Famous Old Painters!! 7/10

Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground - Beautiful. Perfect ending to the EP. 8.5/10

Overall I love this EP! Especially the first 5 songs. Just shows how amazing Coldplay are :)
