In simple terms the guitar lead in the chrous is the same as the singing say if the guitar was doing F-A-C then chris i think wud go F-A-C

Actually they were written in different keys, with different notes ;) Which theoretically shouldn't matter, but in a lawsuit it does. The you-tube videos tampered with it a bit even adjusting the pace at times.

:edit: in any case, the rythm in which the melody is played is very different. You can't match the vocals timing to the guitar, it doesn't work.

No, I kinda got the jist of what you were saying. I just couldn't understand HOW you were trying to say it. Your sentence structure and puncuation is really bad.

And I'm not going to accept anything that isn't true.

there is a similarity though they do sound roughly the same and i admit that the if i could fly song sounds like the other song

i aint saying the suing is right all im saying is that there is a hell of a similarity that u all choose not to hear

we all agree with the similarities!! No one is denying that! we're just saying it wasn't stolen, it's a coincidence. there have been THOUSANDS of them in music since it was created! Many many songs have similarities to other songs, doesn't mean they were stolen!

hey, little man. you've completely changed your views now. before, you were saying coldplay (or shitplay ) deserved it and they totally ripped him off. by that last comment, you've proved yourself at a somewhat neutral level. make up your mind, or else don't come on here judging like you did when you hadn't even explored both sides of the case buddy.

Ok... you're not going to convince me otherwise. I'm not going to convince you otherwise. it's taking up WAY too much of BOTH our times. Can we just agree to disagree?

Granted, but in a heartbeat I could find you a dozen similar cases, that were mere coincidence. Under pressure vs. ice ice baby, Wonderwall vs. Boulevard of broken dreams, Don't look back in anger vs. canon in D and Imagine. ashlee simpson's shit song and square one... :dozey: seriously if anyone should sue right now, it's coldplay.

on the poll thing it said HELL NO !! and most went for that but now ure admiting that there is a similarity and it might be coincidence as JS does faster upbeat music and coldplay do slower sadder music

Have you been reading ANY of my posts? There's a fine line between plagiarism and a similarity!

But it's nice to see that you finally considered the idea that it may be a coincidence...

*snifs* I smell a hater around

Wrong place for Coldplay haters!

Does JS even have a forum?

i thought you don't listen to Coldplay :sneaky:

Ok

after listening to both the chorus in the Satriani song the melodic, tempo and rhythmic chord changes are exactly the same in the coldplay verse. if you wonder why i can use them words i took Music GCSE

Well about the video, I have to say it was one of the most biased and unpersuasive videos ever! The guy clearly knew what he was talking about, but for people who actually know music and play instruments, using big words and complicating scenarios would not have an effect. But what was interesting, is that he claimed the whole song is similar, by trying to persuade us that the chords he was playing on the guitar were the chords used in Viva La Vida, specially the begging of the song and frankly, as I expected, they sounded very different. I couldn’t believe it! First, satriani said the bit where Chris is singing is similar, and now, his fans are claiming everything you can hear in that song is similar! Just utterly pathetic. The guy is comparing something played on strings to what HE believes is the same thing on the guitar. Now, let me tell you, I am a huge and dedicated fan of Coldplay and truth be told, there IS a similarity between the two songs, BUT only seconds; and that’s when Chris Martin is singing, which sounds a bit similar to satriani’s guitar chorus, and that’s just a coincidence. I play guitar myself and indeed im doing Law in college, and in all fairness, satriani doesn’t have sufficient evidence to back up his story. And can I ask you something: don’t you think it’s a bit childish to run after the band in the Grammys?! Do you consider that professionalism in today’s music world? I think anyone would see that as seeking attention.

Agreed!

BTW I apologise to all for my triple post earlier :P

It happens! Don't worry! :D

We hear it all right, we just don't believe Coldplay did anything wrong.

The Last Shadow Puppets and George Formby.

Hey Oasis have made a career out of ripping of The Beatles, still love them though.

And can I ask you something: don’t you think it’s a bit childish to run after the band in the Grammys?! Do you consider that professionalism in today’s music world? I think anyone would consider that as seeking attention.

Exactly!

That's the issue here. We could talk about chord progressions until the cows come home, we have done and we've done it to death!

Whether or not the two songs are similar enough to warrant a case is beside the point, the case has been filed, it's happening.

The point is that Joe is behaving extremely childishly, he's being petty and immature.

Either sue the band quietly or stop pretending that you're some poor hard done by artist who just wants some credit and admit that this case is doing you the world of good financially and publicity wise!

Your sniffing is flawless!!!! :D

And my wild guesses are that either there's no forum for them, they do and it's just as annoying as atease, or they all secretly love coldplay...... they all seem to end up here in one way or the other.....

yes, we all know it's childish, but its no use to ask this kid that. if you havent noticed, hes a little childish himself and may have poor judgement on that. ;)

We hear it all right, we just don't believe Coldplay did anything wrong.

 very well said.
