Why was that not on the album?

Same idea as Viva La Vida, but no that close. Good song

I dont know why, but No Line On The Horizon hasn't caught me yet. I was listening to War today, and I asked myself: "what happened to this U2?"

What happened to the Under A Blood Red Sky U2? I wish, I could have been around to see those days like I see today. I want the Raw, strong and passionate U2 back. We got a glimpse of it in 2005 when The Edge lit himself onfire during the Vertigo Tour. In 2001 at Slane Castle.

No Line On The Horizon though, does not have that passion. It doesn't have a Kite, Walk On, Sometimes, Crumbs. To me the album is lacking the emotion of the past.

Or maybe this album hasn't grown on me. It hasn't grabbed me like Viva La Vida did, its good. Its really good, but I have been forceing myself to listen to it. Im really back into Coldplay right now.

Im looking forward to the tour, for the old songs. To hear Streets and hopefully bad. Those are my Politik's for U2. When I heard the opening notes of Politik, I knew all the pain, the travel and 48 hours without sleep to see Coldplay, was worth it.

This album doesnt have a lynch pin song to me. It has good songs, but nothing That gives me shivers like Streets. Nothing that brings so much passion in me like SBS. Nothing that makes me want to cry like One. It doesnt have that song.

Thats why I see this album as a disappointment, because even Bomd had a song like that for me.

I find moment of surrender is quite the emotional song.

As much as I love Coldplay, U2 will always be my favorite band. That being said, I hear no similarities between the two, except that Coldplay is influenced by U2.

The album comes out today, gonna buy it this afternoon

EDIT: apparently, the album is not available yet in Belgium. Will be something for next week. Ah well...

I never been a U2 fan - I don't dislike them, just never got into them. I've never thought very highly of Bono either, as I find him a bit pretentious, however he's gone really far down in my estimation after he called Chris Martin a "wanker" and a "cretin" on national radio this afternoon. I think he was trying to be funny, but it just wasn't funny at all. Then he had to apologise for the language.

What a prat...:dozey:

Here's the link if anyone wants to listen - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00hq1dy - 1 hour 47 ish minutes into the show.

He says...

He's a wanker..

then Jo Wiley has to apologise..

..then he continues..

Obviously, he's a completely disfunctional character and a cretin...but he happens to be a genius melodist...

Yeah, miles better than you Grandad!

U2 - BONO APOLOGISES FOR MARTIN INSULT

U2 frontman BONO has been forced to apologise after insulting CHRIS MARTIN during a live radio broadcast.

The Irish rocker called the Coldplay singer a "w**ker" during an interview on British station Radio One on Friday (27Feb09).

The show's host, Jo Whiley, stopped the session and forced the star to apologise to listeners for the outburst.

Bono retracted his previous comment, saying "Oops! Sorry, sorry, I'm a reformed character - I don't do that (swear) any more," before going on to label Martin "a completely dysfunctional character and a cretin" instead.

Bono insists that no matter what his opinion of Martin as a person, he is a big fan of Coldplay's music - calling the singer a "genius melodist up there with Ray Davies and Paul MCCartney".

The two singers recently teamed up for a performance in London for the charity War Child, performing together alongside The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers and Take That's Gary Barlow.

You know what?

I just came back here from making dinner to post that I couldn't believe my ears!!

I am listening to the Jo Whiley show at the moment and was like :shocked2: When I heard him saying the "W"-word and the rest...

He should spend less time on putting eyeliner on and start thinking about what he says instead.

Exactly.

The thing that got me is that Chris (& the others) have always been very complimentary to U2 and their influence on Coldplay. I couldn't see Chris calling one of his biggest fans and supporters a wanker...

Exactly.

Yes, you could see how happy he was last week on stage...

Bono had even the VERY FEW lines he had to sing taped on the floor on a sheet that night.

My opinion of him has sunken sooooooo much now.

He can think what he wants - in private.

But not say something like this on radio.

Ok, I am very defensive when it comes to Coldplay, but it's common sense in general:

You don't insult people in public (who admire you in addition).

He must be really afraid of other good bands, poor Bono.

U2 in surprise rooftop gig at BBC

News of the unannounced gig spread on internet message boards

WATCH

Rock band U2 have played a surprise gig on top of BBC Broadcasting House to promote the launch of their 12th studio album No Line On The Horizon.

A crowd of around 5,000 watched the rooftop show in London on Friday, said BBC reporter Darryl Chamberlain. The Irish band had been special guests on BBC Radio 1 and rumours of the gig appeared on internet message boards. The two new and two old songs in the 20-minute gig were Get On Your Boots, Magnificent, Vertigo and Beautiful Day.

'Great honour'

The performance was also broadcast live on DJ Chris Evans' BBC Radio 2 show. The BBC's Darryl Chamberlain, who was at the scene, said: "Some people tried to crowd on to traffic islands to see them... the crowd was screaming and cheering. "Others were spilling out of pubs and shops to see it, and looking out of windows. It was a good natured crowd and people really seemed to be enjoying it."

Police closed Portland Place in Westminster to divert traffic away from the area, the BBC reporter added. The band all wrapped up against the cold, except The Edge who wore a short-sleeved lumberjack shirt and hat. U2's impromptu gig echoed The Beatles' 1969 rooftop performance at record label Apple's London headquarters.

Earlier the band revealed they are preparing to tour later this year, and hope to offer tickets with cheaper, recession-busting prices. Frontman Bono told BBC Radio 1's Jo Whiley they had "something very special planned" for early summer. He added that it was "a whole way of trying to do shows outdoors and make them very intimate".

In an interview on Radio 5 Live with Simon Mayo, Bono said that he had "gone off" Get On Your Boots a few weeks ago, but was now "back on it".

"It's a small song, a tiny little song, a little shot of adrenalin," he added. Another song from the album, Breathe, had its live debut at an intimate Radio 1 concert on Friday morning. Bono told the audience: "This is a great honour. This is the first time we've played these songs to people, so we hope we don't screw it up."

He said they were "trying" to work on some cheaper ticket prices, but added: "We're also going to have some very expensive ticket prices because rich people have feelings too!"

Radio 1 also apologised on-air immediately after Bono used an expletive to describe Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin. The BBC said it had received no complaints about it.

You do realise that this is a very old thread?

I read it through because I have nothing else to do. And though I think Bono is a hypocrite arrogant knobhead and Chris is wrong in trying to act too much like him, and that the U2 Glastonbury 2011 gig was atrocious, I was actually very impressed by the ZooTV footage.

Those "band vs. band" threads are not a very good idea.

Awesome bump, my friend.

Please no, I hate threads like this!

I'm tired to see the Coldplay vs U2 vs Radiohead thing.

I love all three bands and I think they're all great with their own masterpieces.

So stop making pointless comparisions.

U2 had great songs and albums in the past, but I think since the end of the 90's they've lost the touch. Of course there are some good songs, but not a entire amazing album. Right now Coldplay is better than U2.

Well there's no doubt that Pop and All That You Can't Leave Behind isn't their best work, but How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb ranks up there with Boy and War for me. As for No Line, I think if you take Get On Your Boots and I'll Go Crazy off it would've been 10 times better.

I hate U2. Bono pisses me off. Sunday Bloody Sunday is okay.

In my opinion, U2 is the most overrated band ever.

EDIT: Their U2-themed iPod was cool-looking. That's the best thing they've done. :P
