not everything is about sales... cuz if it was, Lil Wayne would be the best musician.

Sales and a huge fan base are usually signs of success.

Well, after looking through this thread, my only response is to repost this:

Sigh. So much negativity, could we go a day without being bitchy to each other? I mean seriously, it's not cool at all.

People have different opinions, it happens, I'm sick of coming on here and the same certain people always posting snarky and patronising comments for the sake of it. Doesn't make you cool or edgy, AT ALL.

Thats a Cool Picture , ( The Cassette).

i love you all.

Bonomania.

I'm a U-2 Fan and Lover, but I am a Coldplay Disciple. I hinge on their every Day and every Song. Now, The Proof in the Pudding is , When Bono Speaks ,People Listen and React . The man is an Icon. So, Keeping All things fair in Love and War , What the Heck is wrong with a little FRIENDLY COMPETITION between two MUSICAL GENIUSES and Rock and Roll Preachers.? A M E N . !!!!!!!!:D

I feel disgusted with myself for walking up the road after work last night and watching that shambles U2 nonsense gig on top of the BBC. I have never really liked U2 but as they were playing for free round the corner, I thought I may as well go and have a look. Very average was my verdict, the first 2 songs (the new ones) were awful and they were only saved by playing Vertigo and Beautiful Day at the end. Afterwards I felt like a bit of a 'Wanker' myself actually, changing my usual Friday night habits for a past it band who I don't like, but I thought this will be the one and only time i'll ever see them so I didn't beat myself up to much. But then this morning I read about that ugly Twat's interview on radio and now I hate myself nearly as much as I hate him!

U2 are shite, Bono is a pompous prick and his voice is gone, he was awful when I saw him onstage at Shepherds Bush last week (yes he made that strong an impression, even though he was on stage under 5 minutes). Also did anyone see the state of him on Jonathan Ross last night? That jumping into the crowd whilst singing about African condoms was just pure cringe! To be honest, I don't care if his comments were in jest, he needs to show some respect. The guy is not fit to lace Chris' boots as far as I am concerned, lets hope someone assassinates him the next time he has the audacity to try and address the UN.

I agree at the War Child he didn't make a great impression on me. He came on, minced around, sang the wrong words, looked disinterested and then ambled off. Not joining in with Chris and Brandon who were having a whale of a time.

I put that down to lack of rehearsal though.

Wow. That is one of the most disgusting things I've read on this site ever.

Wishing for somebody to be assassinated? You are a disgrace to this forum.

I don't understand the motive of Bonos's outburst actually :D . You know , i really feel for Coldplay. They have to swallow so much agression this days that they don't deserve.

LOL, yeah Bono did not sound hateful or anything when he said it, I think he was just joking.

Sounds like a joke from Bono there guys, just not a well delivered one. He also gives Chris a big complement.

I don't even know why this is brought up, Bono was joking. Is Wanker really that bad of a term in the U.K.?

Pretty much the extent of it. I'm sure Chris has called other people he respects similar things before in interviews in the same dry humor way and its not as if Bono left it at that and asked to move on, he went on to add how much he likes them!

And I don't know this either, is being called a wanker an extremely horrific thing in the UK?

I think it was a joke that came out the wrong way. Everyone one day said something that didn´t come out the way they wanted... Even though U2 ruling days are "coming to an end" doesn´t make sense Bono doing things like that.He doesn´t need to do that.Let´s not judge him that soon.

No, it's not an extremely horrific thing being called one, not that I know of. But it's an offensive word used for insulting people, just like most expletives, and is considered generally unacceptable on day time radio. :dozey: :laugh3:

I agree with rafa89, I think Bono was just attempting to make a joke but that came didn't go to plan, simple as that. Is it just me or... do I detect a hint of humilation in his voice when he attempts to make up for his comments by saying how much he actually likes Coldplay and Chris's soul? I have to say I felt a little gleefull hearing big-boots-wearing-ego-the-size-of-a-skyscraper-preachy-frontman-of-what-is-considered-by-everyone-as-one-of-the-biggest-bands-to-ever-grace-the-earth genuinely embarassed by his own behavior.. :laugh3: Oh Bono, you silly old man. Please retire after this album with some dignity left intact. (BTW, I'm no U2 hater. They did make some awesome records, just quite a long time ago!)

I agree totally with you. They don't deserve it at all and they actually swallow it with real dignity which just makes me root for them even more. Everybody seems happy to jump on the Coldplay-bashing bandwagon these days, don't they? Haters to the left, please!

True a music video is pretty private.;)

Well before you get all emotional and defend Bono, try to get the facts right. The idea behind that character in life in technicolor ii video swearing was the director's. Chris and the rest weren’t even there for the shooting as they were too busy touring in America and back here at home. They didn’t even know what Dougal Wilson was gonna do for the video and the closest person representing the band at the recording was Phil. So the band themselves did not have any effects on the outcome. And one more thing. Please DO expect hardcore Coldplay fans like myself to come here and defend Chris or the rest of the band on whatever occasion. This is a free forum for us fans. If you like to express your feelings for U2 you can go to their fan forum.

Have a great and relaxing day!

Thankyou sir! Nicely said.

There's no point in arguing this anymore since it is apparent that the a overwhelming number of the coldplaying population on here has the IQ of a rock (Not all of you). Maybe you guys should actually listen to what Bono said before you jump to conclusions.

Bono is clearly not a Coldplay hater. If you listened to the interview you would know that.

U2 are one of the biggest influences on Coldplay, and if it weren't for U2 you wouldn't have Coldplay. Its as simple as that.

I'm not saying you have to like U2 or have to like Bono. But it is important to recognize the bands such as U2, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, Kraftwork, Travis, etc. and their role in shaping the Coldplay band that you all love so dearly. You should be thankful for their role in music, not bashing them.

Again, this message isn't for everybody, its just for the closed minded people who are jumping to conclusions and making a bad name for Coldplay fans. (especially the twat who said that Bono, a humanitarian, should be assassinated).

I was just using that to show that Coldplay aren't a band that have absolutely nothing to do with swearing. I don't care that was in the video.

And as a Coldplay fan and a U2 fan I am entitled to discuss both bands on this forum. I don't care that you're backing up Coldplay, good for you, but I'm afraid many people here have a very limited knowledge of music.

I came across this on perezhilton.com

It just amazes me that Bono would say that.....about anybody.

:shocked2: L-M-F-A-O. :laugh3: :laugh3: Oh, trust Perez Hilton to come out with the truth.

I think he's right on the money here: "We think Bono's a little cranky over people calling Coldplay "The New U2"!!!

Not ready to give up the "Greatest Band On Earth" title just quite yet???"

Bwahaha. :laugh3:

BTW: I in no way endorse or agree with what that one poster said about assinating Bono. That's taking things a little far. And neither do I deny the role U2 amongst others played in the creation of Coldplay. That doesn't mean I have the IQ of a rock. Or that I hate every other band apart from them. And I know full well Bono was joking and that he doesn't hate Coldplay. I'm just enjoying the fact that this has made Bono look like a bit of a plonker. And c'mon, he really should have known better, shouldn't he?. ;) He's nearly 50 you know. :P

Eh, perezhilton hates Chris Martin and Coldplay anyway. Anytime there's negative publicity surrounding Chris and Coldplay, he's posting it.

I'm sure it was probably a jest on Bono's part, but to me, those are jibs that should be traded in secret between friends, not in public view.

@loveintechnicolor Your IQ is higher than a rock. :P

Its not pointed at everybody.

But yes, wasn't the smartest thing to say. But still its annoying the way the media twists things and only highlight the negative and never the positive.

Coldplay will never release an album as widely accepted as the Joshua Tree.

Does anybody honestly think that in the year 2038 that people will view Viva as one of the greatest albums ever released? Me thinks not.

As far as the UK's concerned, Coldplay at least equalled the 'widely accepted' Joshua Tree with X&Y, and with VLV they've WAY surpassed it.

I caught up with my good friend ZB and when i told him about the interview he was fuming.

here's what he thought of bono.

Ooo! Now my sides hurt from laughing!

LOL thanks, I guess. I was hoping I came across to you as more intelligent than a hard lifeless object. :laugh3:

And I agree with you, the media is awfully good at doing that and sometimes I get really sick of it. They are totally blowing it out of proportion. I mean, it's not like Bono was being genuinely serious. They're making it out like he said something blampheous.

You're right, Perez is a spreader of Coldplay and Chris hate, although here he seems on their side for some reason. But that post was funny none the less. And ITA, it's a jibe not needed in public. The "cretin" comment was taking it too far, IMO. I still don't quite understand why Bono said that. Yes, Chris is a little eccentric and crazy at times.. he's quirky like that. But he was basically called him a retard, and I think Bono should have known better than to to say something of that sort, (affectionate ill-placed joke or not,) on live radio.
