The pit held less than 200 people. The side ramps were only about 10-15 feet long. B stage was actually almost another C stage. It was up in the second section, and C stage was up on the lawn. C stage was on the front of the lawn on the right.
July 20, 200917 yr Irvine is a very steep natural bowl and B stage was about half way up the bowl (it appeared to be the edge of section 4 as Dianne noted), and there is a grass verge that runs outside the lower walkway along the Orchestra 1 seats. I also think that's where he was running from. It was cute, too, that when the band got to C stage, Chris commented that it was quite a hike to get up there. Lovely show, altogether.
July 20, 200917 yr I just uploaded 93 pics to photobucket. Some are great, some are good and some are ok. It was so nice to have my "good" camera (Nikon D40, with a 55-200mm zoom), but it was still hard with the lighting to get all great shots. I'll post some and put up a link to the album. And as soon as I get the email from KROQ of the group shot, the one where I'm RIGHT next to Will, I'll get that up, too. I haven't seen it yet, so I don't even know where my husband was or the rest of the band. My eyes were only on Will ha ha, but my husband said Chris had his arm around him in the group shot. I'm still on a Coldplay high from two nights of concerts, but there is a letdown, too. Not only because the meet and greet was kind of a dud (yes, even though I got to meet Will and Chris and brushed by Jonny and Guy), it was so short, but the letdown also comes from knowing that they won't be back here for a few years. I've seen 4 of their concerts in the last 13 months. Ok, for some pictures, which I know you all have been waiting for.

July 20, 200917 yr Coldplay provides power and passion in Irvine The band's last Southern California stop for a few years leaves fans with lasting memories. Midway through a roaring take on the song "Viva La Vida" on Sunday, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin looked up at the packed amphitheater in Irvine and urged the crowd to give just a little bit more. "For the last time in California for a few years, so let's turn it up!" Martin shouted as he invited, or actually demanded, that we all sing along with just as much passion and power as the band itself delivered all night at Verizon Wireless. And of course, the full house did just as he'd asked, belting out the "Oh, oh, oh's" of the chorus as Martin sang and skipped across the stage, guitarist Jonny Buckland and bass player Guy Berryman crisply played their parts, and drummer Will Champion hammered at a large metal bell so violently that he shattered his mallet. The song, as did the entire night, offered the sound and sight of a band at its peak, road-tested after 134 concerts on a tour that started over a year ago, but still as fresh and enthusiastic as a band just heading out. Yet "Viva La Vida," the tour name and title track off Coldplay's most recent album, was just one high point among many in a concert that delivered 22 songs in just under two hours. Coldplay arrived on stage as the last notes of the final piece of warm-up music ended. (Johann Strauss' "The Blue Danube," if you're curious, to which everyone in the amphitheater waved their arms from side to side as the waltz played on). Twirling fireworks sparklers behind a backlit screen, Martin, Buckland, Berryman and Champion cast dancing silhouettes as they opened the show with the chiming chords of "Life In Technicolor," the mostly instrumental track that opens the most recent album. Fans were up and on their feet from the start of the show, most of them never sitting back done as the band played through a set filled with new songs – "Violet Hill," a slower number followed the opener – and older hits: the opening piano riff of "Clocks," which came next, drew a huge roar from the stands. "This is the song that first brought us to Orange County, and it's going to keep bringing us back," Martin said a song or two later, introducing "Yellow," the first Coldplay single to hit in the United States. The band first performed the song at Verizon while playing in a humble opening slot at KROQ Weenie Roast in 2001. As the band played, dozens of huge yellow balloons were released throughout the venue, making for a lovely visual accompaniment even if it did serve to distract a little from the song as you gawked at the sight or checked that you weren't about to get bonked on the head. New songs that on "Viva La Vida" can seem a little subdued in concert arrived with a much greater blast of power and emotion, with "Cemeteries of London" a rallying cry song, segueing neatly into "42," a song with greatly enhanced dynamics as a live number. In it, Martin started softly solo at the piano, then joined the rest of the band with a guitar during the hard-hitting midsection before dashing back to the piano to resume the more somber finish. With Martin's frequent encouragement, fans joined in to sing along on choruses. During "Fix You," another older song that drew huge cheers and much singing, a random shot of the crowd singing at the front of the stage offered a glimpse of Mrs. Martin – actress Gwyneth Paltrow – watching from the pit. And despite the hugeness of the venue, the band on several occasions visited fans in the upper reaches, first playing a miniset from a platform between the orchestra and loge sections ("God Put A Smile On Your Face," "The Hardest Part") and later from even further up between the loge and the terrace. "Geez, that was a long way!" Martin joked – huffed? – after he and the band ran up to that second spot, a location from which they performed an acoustic set of "Green Eyes," "Death Will Never Conquer" and a cover of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" complete with a very nice falsetto bit. Back on the main stage, after a rousing, heavy take on "Politik," one of the loveliest moments of the night arrived. As the band played "Lovers In Japan/Reign Of Love," confetti cannons blasted tens of thousands of tissue paper butterflies over the arena, a first wave in primary colors, a second in neon dayglow hues, both leaving spectators smiling in delight. Martin, the charismatic frontman, seemed in a happy, talkative mood, making fun of himself when he missed an occasional chord or key, and joking with the crowd at one point that they'd almost rescheduled the show because of its conflict with a new episode of HBO's "Entourage." The rest of the band said hardly a word – though Champion sang lead on "Death Will Not Conquer" – but they played brilliantly, with Champion's drumming a much more powerful presence than on record and Buckland adding all manner of subtle guitar colors to the palette. For the encore, the band played "The Scientist" before bringing the night full circle with "Life In Technicolor II," sending the crowd home humming that final melody. The show also featured two opening acts, starting with Kitty, Daisy & Lewis, a British retro-rockabilly group that offered short fun set, and then Amadou & Mariam, a blind couple from Mali whose band played a terrific set of what might best be described as Afro-funk. Their band included two drummers and two backup singers who danced nonstop. While Mariam sang, Amadou played guitar, every few songs shouting out, "Do you feel alive?!?" July 20, 200917 yr i see myself in some of your pics for the bstage haha Uh, oh, incrinimating? lol We had great seats - Sec 3, Row U, and on the aisle they ran up to C stage. Chris stopped and gave the girl who pushed from behind us an autograph. I'm so sad it's all over now - months and months of waiting.

July 20, 200917 yr Oh man last night's concert hands down best concert I've ever seen them do! And with 7 concerts to choose from,that's not any easy choice! I was lucky enough to have pit tickets to this show. Me and my best friend got there at almost 4 and everyone lined up waiting was waiting for the lawn! That was a first the other two shows it was us insane crazy Coldplay fans who had pit waiting! When we got in the venue, the pit wasn't that full so we snagged FRONT ROW CENTER! :) I was so excited! I never thought it a million years I would get that! The show was amazing! Chris was very talkative,clearly he loves LA and Irvine! He also did a few improvises on songs and messed up. He said out of the 155 concerts they've done this was the worst improvise one! Haha. It was just sureal being that close to them. Chris stuck his tongue out to the front row at one point. Haha. Just seeing stuff like that,stuff I've never caught the band doing before. Chris looked at me a couple of times and so did Guy. I was the fan in the front jumping up and down during Politik and Guy sure did notice! :) I was also lucky enough to get a set list AGAIN. :) I asked the camera man for a set list for my best friend and he handed me it and he had two of them. I am SO framing both of them haha. The boys never disappoint, they always do an amazing wonderful show never the same. :) I am glad I got to see them these 3 shows in Southern California. I met some awesome Coldplayers and Coldplaying fans. I love that others feel the same way I do about Coldplay and share the love and don't think I'm nuts for following them to cities other then my hometown to see them and 3 concerts in a row. (my Mom thinks I'm nuts haha). I think now I can die happy lol. I'd love to get the chance to meet them in an intiment setting but who knows if I ever will? This girl in the front row was lucky enough to go backstage and meet them. I just hope I am that lucky one day. My love for Coldplay will NEVER die!
July 20, 200917 yr Oh and pics and videos to come soon,once I get back home to Vegas. Being so close to the band was just flat out amazing. My husband and I walked down to the 3rd row for The Scientist and LIT2. We had row U orchestra seats and when people started leaving, we made our move. There was no one in front of us in the seats, but security was standing in the way and we didn't want to even talk to them in case they made us move back. I'm tall and Jonny looked right at me a few times, and flashed his bright smile. We had briefly, very briefly, met them for a photo op backstage right before the show started. But Im sure he didn't rememember that I was one of the 80 who were back there. The girl who had the seats next to us said the band manager was sitting there for most of the show. I thought it was better and more fun than Saturday's show. I asked Brooke the roadie on the way out which show he thought was better and he wasn't sure. I told him that I'd seen him at Saturday's show, too. He said he likes the stadium shows, but from my perspective, as a fan in the 19th row on the floor, behind the massive pit, I prefer Verizon Amphitheater more than the huge stadium. Pit would have just put me over the edge, lol. How did you manage to get those tickets? But now I'm a bit sad it's all over. 4 concerts in 13 months just isn't enough. And with the disappointment of the rushed meet and greet, it's a let down after months of anticipation. But they are my very favorite band, and were genuinely nice for the 30 seconds I got to speak to Will and my husband spoke with Chris. And Chris apologized to us for having to rush through it - it was management scheduling, I think, and trying to plan too much for one day, with the Capitol records private concert earlier in the day, all the way in Hollywood, then it's also and LA show and filled with VIPs and celebrities, and I heard there was an afterparty, too. So my little meet and greet suffered from the overscheduling.
