Coldplay take boredom break

Featured Replies

Lore would probably buy half of the available tickets

that reminds me of sam's ambition to buy all the floor tickets for the next sydney show so that the four of us can have the floor all by ourselves..hence his aim to be very loaded! :laugh3:

Oooooh yes :wacky:

arrrrggghhh! this is not what i wanted to wake up to!

so boys, take a nice long holiday and visit some latin american counrtries, get some sun, relax and just happen to have your guitars and drums and tamborines and perhaps do a gig or two

how could they think we would be bored of them?

If I was rich, I'd do that, definitely!

that would need a big stalking plan

i think you are up for the job Lore!

good morning coldplayers!

They are off all of April, and Chris will be biting at the bit to get back to it. I thought on 60 mins before the Grammys he was saying they had some new songs and that they rehearsed them at soundchecks?? Oh well I hope they have some family time and relax with them.

Guitarist Johnny Buckland revealed: 'We ended up doing much more touring than we originally planned so there's no time to do proper justice to a new project

that's what happens when you tour USA like 20 times  everyday I'm more dissappointed

 I agree, how can they call it a "World Tour" when they skipped out so many places where there are huge fans waiting - like me

i think this is a good idea. they'll have some time to recooperate and probably come back stronger than ever!!

but don't be away too long, boys! we'll miss you!!!

true!

they definitely should go to south africa too :)

I love your siggy!

Nooo!!! I'll never get bored of them. I hope they still release a new album next year.

dude, I totally knew this would happen. Last time after X&Y, Chris was like "oh yeah we'll be back in a year and a half." and it ended up being three years!

I doubt they'll have anything ready before 2010.

I agree. They like to take their time between albums. I can't complain though, if taking things slowly means they can keep making great music! :nice:

Coldplay have decided to take a break because they fear people are getting bored of them.

The group have postponed plans to begin work on the follow-up to 'Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends' to figure out which direction to take their music in next.

Guitarist Johnny Buckland revealed: 'We ended up doing much more touring than we originally planned so there's no time to do proper justice to a new project. And anyway people may need a bit of a break from us.

'We're taking a little break and let's see where we get after that. We've got a lot of ideas but we want to find a new way to go and that may take some time.'

Johnny also spoke out about the military-style uniforms the group have donned to promote the album and accompanying tour, and claims the band - singer Chris Martin, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion - hand-stitched each one.

He added to Time Out Dubai magazine: 'Guy came up with the direction. Then we all got together in our studio to work on the outfits. We had someone who helped us make the jackets and trousers. We made them ourselves. We really wanted this whole album to be homemade again, we wanted to take it back and have it all come from us.'

Imo what they should have done is this instead of releasing last years EP -

2009 greatest hits with new tracks left over from the Viva sessions (Prospekt's March) Would sell 5million copies easily.

1) Shiver (wind back from 0.00 for secret track Ode To Deodorant)

2) Yellow

3) Trouble

4) Don't Panic

5) In My Place

6) The Scientist

7) Clocks

8) God Put A Smile On Your Face

9) Speed Of Sound

10) Fix You

11) Talk

12) Hardest Part

13) Violet Hill

14) Viva La Vida

15) Lost

16) Lovers In Japan

17) Life In Technicolor ii (new single with greatest hits)

18) Glass of Water

19) Prospekt's March/Poppyfields (secret track Brothers and Sisters)

So basically the album is bookmarked by 'the beginnings of the band'

I don't like that idea. Its way too early to come up with a "greatest hits", maybe in another 10 years. Personal I hate compilations like those. "Greatest hits" albums discourage people from buying the actual albums. Its like the radiohead "best of" Why pay the extra money to get OK Computer, The Bends and In Rainbows when you can just get what you presume are the best tracks on one C.D.?

Back to the subject at hand, I think they made it clear that this break is part of the recording process. I'm sure they'll rush straight to the studio whenever they get a fresh idea. But they just need time to figure out what this next album is going to sound like. They're not going on a full-blown vacation. I think we all knew that 2009 was way too optimistic to be true. I'm kind of glad actually. quality over quantity.

I see your point but for some people a hits collection is a entry point to a bands work. I still think the EP was a mistake. Although saying that I ended up doing my own version of 2008's releases. Viva La Prospket :)

maybe they'll do the whole U2 thing...

"Coldplay: Best of 2000-2010"

That's what I was thinking (though maybe call it something else to seem more original), and just to keep folks satisfied, they can do that second disc thing which contains some B-sides, some mixes, maybe an unreleased VLV session track (Famous Old Painters plz), and maybe even a couple demos of potential upcoming tracks.

I want them to release one at summer time like Viva La Vida!

I would never get bored but, they deserve one!

It was unrealistic to expect a new album by the end of the year, anyways....

Quoted for truth. I dislike "greatest hits" albums. The songs belong in their own albums..

only thing im bored with is WAITING for LP5:(

ok boys-break over, now back to work:whip:

That's the spirit!

Nah, it's okay boys, as long as you don't keep the break too long. ;)

Well, I would never get tired of Coldplay, but I understand their need for a break! I say, "do whatcha gotta do to make the next album INSANE!"

rather than a greatest hits, i wish they'd put out a "rareities" sort of album. to make it especially worth it, they should throw in one or two completely unheard songs that we've all been clamoring for for years (*ahem* so sad and deserted *ahem*). i don't see them doing this, since most artists have good reasons why they don't release stuff, but i think this would bridge the gap, not be too much work for the band, AND get them off stupid EMI in time for LP5 :P

i don't see that happening, of course, but it would be amazing :dead:

i'm glad that they're taking a break: they deserve it, and i think it'll make the overall finished product much better. if they put out LP5 at the end of this year or whatever they were saying before, i think it would just be VLVOD part II, which while i think everyone would generally like it, it just wouldn't be the same as putting out something AMAZING and different in 3 years. they've been so good to us this year that i think we can be satiated for a liiiittle while :D.

as much as they need a break, though, they really need to go to south america! i think they know that, though, and i bet they'll do something like they did last time: take a bit of a break and then go down there for a bit :nice:. just be patient, guys, and don't let that make you hate coldplay! it's almost definitely not the band's choice, and i think they're DEFINITELY going to pay you a visit in 2009-2010 :D

some days I really feel that they will come in november or december, but some days I think it won't happen and I feel really sad

Of course they deserve a break (they have families and friends and they need to spend time with them too) and, as you just said, I think that we can wait a couple of years for a great album

and nope, I don't want a greatest hits, they have just 4 albums... even if they have awesome songs they need at least one or two more to make a cool compilation

I think they'll come in Nov or Dec Lore and if not then Jan or Feb. They'd better
