Are you a donor?

Featured Replies

I don't know how does the system work in every country, but here there's not really a law about organ donation and even if a person wants to be a donor, it's the family who finally decides about it

anyway, I'm posting this because here, there's a 11 year old boy who waited for like 3 months to get a new heart and even got an artificial heart.. but he just died today and it's really sad

would you be a donor? what do you think about it? for me that question has a pretty obvious answer... I'd definitely do it.. but maybe some people won't because of personal beliefs, religion, etc

so, what do you think about it? is there a law about it in your country?

I would do it. :)

My dad had a heart transplant a few years ago, so I can kind of relate to the cause. It should almost be mandatory, there's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't check your card. The most popular myth excuse is:

"OMG!! that means if you're in a car accident, the paramedics won't try to save you!!!" Which is complete BS. In any case the injured person has to be brain-dead before they even contemplate donating their organs. A ridiculously small percentage of accident victims apply while the waiting list for those life-saving organs is sky high.

So remember kiddy's Chris the peregrine falcon says "Check your card! so if you die unexpectedly, you know you won't be taking anyone else with you."

*trips while getting down from soapbox, suffers a potentially deadly concussion and is immediately rushed to the hospital*

lol Chris, you're taking my role as Coldplaying's stand up comedian. :P

I'd put my organs up for auction on EBay. "Very lightly used liver! Just $400,000!"

But in all seriousness, I don't see why anyone would care whether they've got their organs when they die. They're just going to be rotting in the ground. It's a waste.

I am marked off officially as a donor, I would donate organs if necessary.

Here, we are, by default, organ donors. Unless you opt-out when you are alive, your liver, kidneys, cornea or heart can be used for transplantation.

The more I learn about Singapore, the more I like it. Some things are stupid (like outlawing homosexuality and chewing gum... oh and caning as a punishment) but the low taxes and limited government really impresses me.

Some things are cool, while others are just senseless. The outlawing of homosexuality really irks me though, because it personally affects my friends and loved ones who are gay. Supposedly, many people here are still not open to the fact that people can be homosexual and still regard it as a sin.

But yeah if you are between 21-60 and of sound mind, you are included under the Human Organ Transplant Act (HOTA) :D

woah. :stunned:

for a second i thought the name of this thread said "are you a stoner?"

but yah...i would think it would be cool to be a donor, but i would be really scared to do it it think.

unless you're talking about when you die. then i wouldnt mind donating anything and everything.

she is talking about when you die. i think i would donate organs as well. no reason why not

Really, you should have to opt out of this rather than opt in.

I totally agree. Completely 100%.

People have the right to their own bodies. I'm a donor, but I still think people should have their own right to volunteer only if they want to.

my uncle was a donor, i'm happy thinking in some way he is yet alive, and so has helped some other person has a better healt now. :)

other of my uncle is a blood donor.

here donations are on high ratio, but is never enough, and it all depend on the person and their family decition.

But in all seriousness, I don't see why anyone would care whether they've got their organs when they die. They're just going to be rotting in the ground. It's a waste.

Amen. I will definitely donate all my organs after i die. I have no use for them anyway..
