And also an infected woman in Germany, eek!

There was already an "How to make your own face mask" article in my daily newspaper :stunned:

my mom just told me my great-grandmother died of the flu in 1918, which was of the same strain as the current swine flu. interesting.

and i get what everyone's saying about this being almost over-reported in the media. that's what the media does with everything that can be considered a big story, and you're right about the number of people that die from the flu each year, regardless of pandemics. however, you can't deny the right of people in affected areas to be concerned and scared, which i think is what a lot of what you're saying is coming off as to people in heavily hit areas. just because a lot of people die from some kind of flu every year doesn't make it any less scary to a person that's living in an area where it's especially prevalent. for people in the rest of the world, it's not just scary because the media is suddenly reporting it when they don't the rest of the time, but because this has a much larger risk of spreading to pandemic proportions human to human, unlike most other strains of flu we've seen in many years. while the media is over-reporting and is scaring thousands more people than they need to, that doesn't make this flu strain any less deadly, scary, or widely threatening, and people like the ones in this thread are scared for real reasons. i'm just saying be sensitive, since if i was in mexico city right now, i think i would have taken some offense to people telling me it's all a lot of fuss over nothing .

Did anyone see the daft woman on CNN who said she had stopped eating ham because of swine flu?? How can anyone be so brainless??:dozey:

there's no evidence that it's passed through pork products yet, but it's not confirmed that it isn't, either, according to an article i just read on CNN. i don't see why it's so brainless to take an extra precaution that doesn't cost you that much to take.

It doesn't work that way. The same happened when people stopped eating turkey breast because of bird flu. It's ludicrous.:dozey:

What next? Are people going to stop eating chicken for fear of catching chicken pox??

i'm going to stick with what official sources say, thanks, and officials only say that it has not been spread through food "so far," which i take to mean that it's not out of the realm of possibility. i'm not saying everyone should stop eating pork, i'm just saying i don't see the harm in trading a ham sandwich for a chicken one for a while, or why it's necessary to call people "daft" for being concerned and taking minor precautions that might make them feel better.

BTW, chicken pox has nothing to do with chickens...it's only called that because it's a milder, and therefore "chicken" form of other sorts of pox, and because it makes your skin look like a plucked chicken's. also, for etymological reasons.

I  you Chels

I got high with centrum and flanax

:laugh3:...

The city is dead... there's nothing to do and i'm starting to get bored :inquisitive:

I got off the phone with my mom, and she's unnecessarily freaking out!

Reports are now saying that the deaths in Los Angeles are not related to swine flu, as they have been tested and came up negative. It's not 100% certainty, but it's now a strong likelihood that they are not related to the strain.

:laugh3:...

I know! I mean, we have no classes but where are we supposed to do

Ricardo, it is good that you went, better safe than sorry, sorry i am such a fag, but i am a mom and you have to be careful and take care of yourself. its funny when you are young you never ever think anything can happen to you, but shit does happen

Fine.. I'll go to the doctor tomorrow. I don't think I have it though. I just have like a stuffy nose and a sore throat but I think that was from me yelling and singing out loud. I don't have a fever or cough or nausea or anything like that. heh.. I guess it's better to be sure.

I know! I mean, we have no classes but where are we supposed to do

throw a party of course!:P

Don't Panic everybody

Why do people even bother saying this?

it's automatic that as soon as somebody says 'Don't panic' - It's cause to panic!

:P

My local newspaper printed out 'Tips to Prevent Swine Flu'

• Wash your hands often, especially before eating or physical contact with others

• If you have flu-like symptoms, stay home.

• If you know someone with flu-like symptoms, stay away from them.

Really? :P

In all seriousness, this is pretty scary. You can't help but wonder if it'll hit where you are, if it hasn't yet, even if the media does "hype" it up a bit.

well I got a scary e mail, that someone that works on a hospital says it's quite strong... but seriously they would not have suspended the classes if it was not something important

My only worry is that if it comes here I'm screwed because my immune system is Quite Crap

But condolences to the affected and dead

it has now arrived in germany... quite scary indeed.

it has now arrived in germany... quite scary indeed.

And do you think it's merely a coincidence that the victim happens to be in Hamburg??:stunned:

is he? i thought he was from regensburg.

is he? i thought he was from regensburg.

But I thought a person had been hospitalised in Hamburg?
