June 25, 200916 yr Many people find it shocking and threatening. There are many reasons for banning it, which are all explained in the articles. There isn't. They suggest that there's 'no need' to to wear it because Britain's a fairly cold country anyway. Seriously who cares? No one complains about people wearing little clothing in winter either. It's not threatening in any way unless you believe that everyone who wears a burkha must be a terrorist. But anyone who believes that seriously needs help.

June 25, 200916 yr Whatever way you look at it, there is no reason for anyone to completely conceal their face. It immediately raises suspicion. YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST GUYS ALL MUSLIMS ARE CRIMINALS
June 25, 200916 yr Because you have no idea who or what it's concealing.;) There's just a woman under it, not a monster for god's sake! People of all ages.;) I haven't heard a grown up saying they're scared of women wearing burkhas.
June 25, 200916 yr Whatever way you look at it, there is no reason for anyone to completely conceal their face. It immediately raises suspicion. What about people who wear a hat and a scarf? Does this raise suspicion too?
June 25, 200916 yr Author What about people who wear a hat and a scarf? Does this raise suspicion too? No, because the face still isn't completely covered.
June 25, 200916 yr Author Thank you. I'm a Muslim. You should ignore him. He doesn't have anything worthwhile to add to any discussion.;)
June 25, 200916 yr Author lizziemag wrote...Burka - appropriate for desert sands of Saudi Arabia where the men cover up too. Here it is a means or symbol of oppression or a political 'weapon'. It's political in Saudi too Lizzie. The women hate wearing the burqa. Rich middle class women leave Dharan, in the back of their chauffeured limos, for a day out in Bahrain, sewn up head-to-toe in sweaty burqas; halfway across the King Fahd causeway the chauffeur pulls over, his employer steps out of the back, transformed in full make-up and designer clothes and she takes the wheel (while he goes and sits in the back), ready for retail therapy in Bahrain. Their husbands enjoy boys-away-days in Bahrain too. Visiting the five star hotels to drink themselves silly and "see" the beautiful blond Russian working-girls. Nice bit of hypocrisy! Some of them take the seven minute flight back to "dry" Saudi so drunk they are almost carried onto the plane. I don't accept that Muslim women in Britain are wearing the Hijab, (or its more extreme form the burqa, or even the ultimate expression of purdah, the full Afghan chadir - shuttle-cock burka - were even their eyes are covered - I've seen it recently down Kilburn High Road) because they want to. (Why do the overwhelming majority of their men wear western dress?) The women don't have a choice. Purdah was invented by men to repress women. Rulers dressed their (many) wives up in this garb to hide them from the lecherous eyes of other men. What rulers do ordinary folk copy, if they can afford to; eventually such customs get enshrined in religion and politics as control mechanisms. To my eyes purdah is a symbol of oppression, and slavery. It is a manifestation one human's power over another; In this case the power of Muslin men over Muslim women. It says "women are less than men, they are objects for the pleasure of men". Purdah denies Muslim women personal, social, political and economic freedom. Some will even speak out to say "this our choice". I don't buy that, just like those women in Saudi don't buy it. Purdah breeds the mentality that allows the State to order its snipers to target women in crowds of demonstrators and shoot them through the heart - to teach them a lesson. When I see a woman in the street in purdah try as I may I can't see her as a human - just a thing. And I say to myself "my God so this is what we have come to, Medieval Islam in twenty-first century Britain. What next?"
June 25, 200916 yr I actually made very similar points to Sally yesterday but you know how you ignore all the good points in people's arguments and focus on the bits you can roll your eyes at? That happened and it turned into a discussion about the correct word for the "Koran" when you used a version which isn't the English or the Arabic version and couldn't really justify a reason for doing so.
June 25, 200916 yr You should ignore him. He doesn't have anything worthwhile to add to any discussion.;) He's in my ignore list. I'm too curious what's he doing in this thread so I view the post. Not gonna do that again! :D

June 25, 200916 yr No, because the face still isn't completely covered. It might be depending on how they wear it. You certainly wouldn't be able to recognise a person easily.

I found more than enough links to prove it, so it was game over.:smug: Anyway, you're banned, so you should go back to your hole.;)
June 25, 200916 yr No, because the face still isn't completely covered. Oh yes. Cuz just by seeing someone's face you know exactly what that person is. God knows how much evil is covered under the burkhas.
June 25, 200916 yr It's not the English or the Arabic version though, so why would you type it that way?
June 25, 200916 yr Author He's in my ignore list. I'm too curious what's he doing in this thread so I view the post. Not gonna do that again! :D Well he shouldn't actually be on the board at all, as he was rightfully banned.;)
June 25, 200916 yr Author True, but they sure look like them!! Even the poll options are biased... Burqas aren't blankets.
