I hate that I am not older so that I could have discovered them already in 2000 AND I hate that I missed the Twisted Logic Tour.

Goooooood ...

Will does talk a lot, in interviews. I think.

Anyways, I don't like Coldplay's politicalness.

I don't like the fact that Chris pretends to play the piano in some songs like Lovers in Japan (as someone mentioned before).

I don't like Gwyneth. I wish Chris wasn't married to someone famous...

I also don't like that they swear. I'm not a big fan of that. :P

But I still love Coldplay to death anyways. :)

he doesnt when they're in like a group interview lol :shame:

but when its like will & guy and then jonny & chris,

he talks.

i agree with your 3rd point with gwyneth :dozey:

i find it funny when they swear though,

and i didnt know he pretends to play the piano,

and if he does i know why,

i know how to play it on the piano and you have to span your hand like an octave and a half, its almost nearly impossible, i havent figured out how he plays it with two hands though

I wish they'd bring back the piano rock element. I loved the experimentalism of VLV and X & Y, but bring back the piano and I'd be the happiest Coldplayer in the world.

+1000000000.

Bring back parachutes and AROBTTH-days, please.

yup i miss the AROBTTH days too! and i dont even want to remember the fact that i did not get to go to their twisted logic tour! or the tour in 2003.

i hate how some people dont understand how wonderful they are!

the fact that they leave out 4 of my favourite songs (Warning Sign, trouble, shiver and see you soon) from the setlist.

apart from that they're awesome :)

That Chris sometimes has a chewing gum on stage even while singing. :dozey: I HATE chewing gums. And I find it somehow not very polite to chew a chewing gum infront of at least 10,000 people when it even looks infront of one person pretty stupid.

I for once would like the band put out more updates in general, and if I need be specific, more about the new album. A setlist change wouldn't hurt either but we're having that on European tour I think Guy mentioned the setlist is going to be a bit longer which is amazing!

  • 1 month later...

They forgot all about Parachutes, they only remember Yellow.

They are getting too popular

over half of the people who say that they like him only know thier hit songs (I'm not saying that about people on the board; you have to be a pretty big fan to be on here.)

2 hours is too short for a concert

Being very big, they have got distant from their fans - I get the impression that the band themselves are great with fans, but they are surrounded by an inner circle who "shield" them from both publicity and fans. Unfortunately, this generates bad karma from those who are genuine fans and just want to say hi. That's a shame. I often get the impression that despite their fame - the 4 members of Coldplay are genuinely nice, down to earth guys, yet some of those that surround them have an over-blown importance of themselves, which in turn puts the band in a not so great light relative to their fans. It's rather like some of the people that surround the Monarchy that believe themselves essential to the nation

One thing about the band I was shocked to discover this week though was about the song Viva La Vida. This song has generated so much controversy over the last year, but I stumbled across something on LinkedIn (just logon and search for "Coldplay" and "strings")

The arranger of the strings for VLV is a freelance violinist who also arranged for the Verve as well. Remember all the controversy with Bitter Sweet Symphony (and Martin's admiration for that song). Well Mick Jagger sued the Verve (and won) for over-sampling one of his own songs. That got me thinking about VLV. If Coldplay had actually outsourced the arrangement of the strings to someone who had been subject to plagiarism before..... hmmm

I feel a little cheated because over the last 18 months I've staunchley been defending Coldplay in pubs when this topic comes up. We all knew Brian Eno worked on the album and that Coldplay (save for Will) cannot play the stringed instruments in VLV. I always naiively thought though that the band had had a big input into the arrangement... this was a shock to discover they hadn't.

:( That is disappointing...

There are a few things I don't like about Coldplay--that the other 3 members are immensely overshadowed in comparison to Chris Martin, that they don't release their B-sides on an actual CD, and that they don't make these funny side videos anymore to tease the fans...Yeah, their fame is a wall between them and us.

I already griped about this...

but, I hate how they are always going on and on about how great other MEDIOCRE artists are. "Like omg Jay Z is the best and so is Kanye and I love Girls Aloud blah blah blah heck we even watch Hannah Montana!"

SHUT UP! It sounds extemely fake and contrived.

The fact that they listen/performed with Girls Aloud made me scream. Literally.

That they don't live in my basement :bigcry:

That's what I was going to say!:D

This is also my answer!(But in my basement not Crest's!:laugh3:)

To an extent: backing tracks.

I understand that to capture the essence of the studio version (or for the song to translate at all live) they need to play the odd backing track (an extra guitar, ambient noise, piano etc.). There are times though where I think it goes too far.

I don't necessarily think the studio version has to be replicated in its entirety. There are moments where lead guitar, backing vocals and even the drums are being pumped through the speakers.

Obviously it's not a major gripe. The boys still trump the majority of the pre-recorded garbage out there. They can play the stuff brilliantly, so it'd be nice to hear more of it live.

^Let's see:

I hated "Lovers in Japan" the 1st times I listened to it

I hate that the cancelled the Tampa concert instead of reschduling after going to Mexico

I hate that their concert tickets are WAY too expensive

I hate that Phil is not tweetering anymore

I hate that they have not made more songs like "Glass of Water"

Can't think of anything else right now...

I wouldn't say I hate this, but it is not something I like. For me, they don't seem as happy and fun as they used to. Now I know and understand I have only been a fan since last June, but looking back at the old stuff and old video's it seems like they're not being themselvs as much as they should. Even since Viva era started, till now, it seems like they are in a bubble. Well thats just my opinion. :)

I agree with you. I have been a fan since I was 8, and they are pretty differnt now. But I still love them!

They have gotten more pretentious and have that superstar quality now. They need to make more Nappies videos. Chris has changed. I hate that little "I am God" face he had on the rolling stones cover. He is losing his humility, and morphing into big name sellable media crap.

And I hate people who are like "i love coldplay! i totally like viva la vida"

My response: Good for you. You like an (albeit very good)overplayed song from an iTunes commercial...hmmm. let me recommend you some better cp music! *hands parachutes and AROBBTH*

wayyyy too popular now.

Exactly! In my opinion there are plenty of other Coldplay songs that are, quite frankly, better than Viva La Vida. People shouldn't define love for a band as "this song is good, therefore I love the band". After all, if they never try they'll never know... (Sorry had to fit that in somewhere:D)

Warning: Long POST! :D

One thing I don't like about Coldplay is how much they changed. They used to be a GOOD, SIMPLE, English rock band and that was the reason so many people fell in love with them. Now it just seems they are trying to be something bigger than what was originally planned. I was looking back on all the old sites they used to have and realized they were just four college kids wanting to play some music. They have turned into what seems like a band who seems like they're too good to be true. They went from wearing t-shirts to tight pants and colorful jackets. I think that they feel they've earned their title and anything they make will be good no matter what. I also think this evidence is found in Chris. He used to keep his mouth shut about most things, but now he's ranting about it in a song. He used to sing about love. Now he sings about war, politics, and eerie things. Not that that is bad or anything. It's just strange to listen to Parachutes then Viva la Vida and think of the same band. It makes me sad to think I wasn't a fan during the parachutes era because that is the Coldplay I think of when I hear their music.

Just the way the world has changed, their music had to change.Their music reflects what is going on in their lives and the world...10 years ago they were young kids and now they are married men with children. They cant still be singing about unrequieted love.

And the world is a different and scary place since 9/11. Tthere are wars going on around the world,so they put that in their songs. And how could they stay just a simple rock band..Impossible.
