A Rush Of Blood To The Head or The Bends?

They're both Coldplay and Radiohead's second albums, and the only two you can really compare (Parachutes beats out Pablo Honey by a mile imo, and X&Y/OK Computer and VLV/Kid A comparisons sort of fail in general) -- soo, I thought I would ask the Radiohead-obsessed World of Music forum which they liked better. :nice:

I used to like A Rush Of Blood a lot more than The Bends, but I'm kind of sick of Coldplay right now so I'm going with The Bends. I do predict my opinion will change eventually, though, once I haven't listened to Coldplay for, like, a year or something.

Good question! I'm not Radiohead-obsessed, but thought I'd answer anyway :)

Right now I'd go with AROBTTH, but like you, I think I'd sway back and forth on it. I agree with Parachutes being better than Pablo Honey (hate that album!)

And I'd listen to OK Computer over X&Y any day of the week!

You guys might have to take a picture or put this down in writing, but I picked A Rush of Blood to the Head. I mean I like The Bends, but I find it somewhat inconsistent in the sense that there are a few songs I don't really like (Black Star, Sulk, Bones). A Rush of Blood to the Head is really an amazing album, and I think their best album.

Now if this was any other Radiohead album, sans-Bends or PH, then of course i'd go w/ radiohead

Excellent points. :D

And yet my gut reaction is,

No Choosing! Don't wanna. Not gonna. Can't make me. :P

never clicked... i dunno, kinda just didn't like them. perhaps it's also because i get lost after my iron lung, so those songs i kinda forgot about.

I actually can't really stand My Iron Lung. It's just the most delirious pile of madness I've heard and I never really got it.

im going to have to sit on the fence with this one. for me you cannot get two more closely matched albums then the two mentioned.

suggestion to mods. can we change the name of this section of the forum to "The World of Music vs Coldplay". cos thats virtually what this place has turned into.

My Iron Lung is one of my favourites on there... does seem to be one of those love it or hate it tracks

I'd choose any Radiohead album over a Coldplay one.

Okay, maybe not Pablo Honey

I doubt even Thom Yorke would pick Pablo Honey over a Coldplay album (though Chris Martin probably would :P )

A Rush of Blood to the Head is a good album, but I think its unfair to compare that album to The Bends, which is considered by many music enthusiasts to be a masterpiece. There's a reason why you see The Bends in most best of all time lists or in musicians best ever lists, because it really is that good of an album..one that has influenced many. In my opinion, A Rush of Blood to the Head is a slight step back in quality compared to Parachutes. Where as, The Bends was a massive leap forward for Radiohead compared to Pablo Honey. Also lets be honest here, if this very same question was asked on a non-Coldplay forum The Bends would win easily. Personally, I find The Bends to be a superior album in every way. It has better vocals, lyrics, guitar work, drumming/bass and song writing. Just for fun, try listening to both albums on winamp(or any other music player) with the tracks sequenced one after the other like this:

Politik

Planet Telex

In My Place

The Bends

God Put a Smile upon Your Face

High and Dry

The Scientist

Fake Plastic Trees

Clocks

Bones

Daylight

Nice Dream

Green Eyes

Just

Warning Sign

My Iron Lung

A Whisper

Bulletproof..I Wish I was

A Rush of Blood to the Head

Blackstar

Amsterdam

Sulk

Street Spirit
