What one song do you think epitomizes Coldplay?

Featured Replies

I recently had to introduce someone to Coldplay using one song, and it made me think, if you had to pick one song that epitomizes the "Coldplay sound", what would it be?

I was thinking Fix You for the first three albums, but once Viva la Vida is thrown in I think it's harder to choose one song that sums up all of Coldplay.

So what do you think?

Maybe Speed of Spound, See You Soon, or Talk.

It would depend on whether the person likes piano, guitar, bass, drum solos, exct,.

Brothers and Sisters- the later b-side version. Especially in comparison to the earlier versions. The way the nature of the song changed sort of defined the whole Coldplay template.

FIX YOU, VIVA LA VIDA or CLOCKS. Wonderful songs proving that the Coldplay guys are extremely good and energetic musicians. And these two videos underline that:

Jonny's guitar playing in FIX YOU, Guy's bass line in VIVA LA VIDA - I heard it on the radio today and really noticed Guy's bass in VLV today - Will's energetic performance during VLV with the bell and drums and Chris' running really fast in FIX YOU. CLOCK is also a good representative of Coldplay's ability to make evergreens.

I'm going another way here:

Careful Where You Stand

Clocks

Yellow. Viva la Vida does NOT represent the band as whole.

Trouble + Clocks + Fix You + Lovers In Japan = Coldplay 2009

Clocks ;)

Mm..Swallowed in the Sea. I'm obsessed with that song. :P

It shows that Coldplay can create instrumentally and lyrically beautiful songs.

Yellow. Viva la Vida does NOT represent the band as whole.

I agree... I say Yellow or Clocks.

Yellow seems fairly representative. It's popular but not too poppy. It's got a good hook and the lyrics are simple but memorable, as is the tune itself.
